Matt O'Ree - Something to Say 

Some more info on recording this song for everyone. I still remember it well. Bob Pantella on drums who has been Monster Magnet's drummer for many years now, and Eric Collier on bass. Eric helped me start the band. We met in college around 1994 and all three of us are still best friends. The band was originally called The Blues Hounds. We recorded most of 88 Miles in a home studio owned by Bob Butterfield in Lincroft, NJ. Butterfield also played drums on a few songs along with his bassist at the time, Bill Cherensky from a NJ band called BB and the Stingers. Best 3 piece power blues rock trio I've ever heard. Bernie, the guitarist and singer, is who I studied guitar with and he gave me the inspiration to do what I am still doing today. He sadly passed away in 2007. I remember telling him that I nailed the clean tones of SRV, well as close as I could ever come, in this song. We had a good laugh about it. It was always a good laugh with Bernie. I used my 1966 Fender Super Reverb that was all original, and my 1960's clone slab board strat with Lindy Fralin pickups that my friend and luthier Jeff Schloeder from Middletown NJ built for me. I used that clone strat for a long time until I bought my real 1961 Strat, two days before the official release of this record, spring of 1998. Amazing how close they sound in tone and feel. Now all these years later, I only bring out my 1961 for recording and special occasions. Glad I bought it when I did.

Wonderful ... Soft touches, but strong and unexpected. Solo of first quality ... A hoarse vocal but with a lot of feeling .... A little of the big old school.
