Bloody Roar's fate is a tragedy squared, the series' publishing rights belonged to Hudson, which then died and got aborbed by Konami, yes Konami of all things. We live in a world where Bubsy's rights got bought on meme value alone and still got games pumped out, meanwhile Bloody Roar is buried 7 feet deep in Konami's graveyard.
The best bet for any kind of sequel is the Igarashi style of some eager developer looking to make their niche, takes the concepts of the original game and just makes their own not-Bloody Roar.
Well, after Konami went insane, they gave us Super Bomberman R, which is more like Hudson's flagship franchise. And it was warmly received... MUCH better than how they did it with Contra. I guess Konami these days would do better on Hudson properties?
the next time we see a new bloody roar announcement probably be a pachinko/slot machine, like what happened with silent hill & castlevania, unless someone bought the rights.
Power Stone 2, Rival Schools and Bloody Roar 2 were my top 3 back in middle school up until early highschool. My friends and I only got to play PS2 and RS on arcade cabinets, so we mostly played BR2 over the weekends or after school since a friend had a copy.
@@lordhughmungus the thing with me and power stone is that even though its fun, it lacked depth. it really boils down to runng around throwing stuff at your opponent/get that quick combo to pop their power stones, get the power stones, spam specials, finish off with their super before the gems loses its power. it was a pick up and play game and not necessarily ima devote hrs into learning the mechanics and get good game.
@@frostfyrezero1830 I honestly want to see a pangolin character in this new roster; he or she would be so defensive and adorable in beast form, I'd probably rage quit the first few times. Lol
@@Magitek1112 lets not jump to conclusions just yet. konami may own them but they are a different branch. i never had problems with pachinko machines anyway. I always laughed when people get angry seeing them
@@9773an That and I think I hear Sony partnering with Konami for this (to the point people thought Sony wanted to buy Konami). If there's Sony nearby, Konami wouldn't want to turn the franchise in pachinko, they only do it when they're the sole developer for it and no one else is looking. Or you better just hope that Sony puts a gun on Konami's head and tell them NOT to make this a pachinko.
I cry for Darkstalkers, power stone, rival schools, and deff Bloody Roar. I'd be cool with a re-release of any of these games. But if Konami has it I weep infinite tears.
How cool would it be to see all those games in the modern day graphics engine? They would look so cool and most likely play well too. It's too bad they are in the hands of an incompetent company who can't see hidden treasure.
Darkeclipse2 Capcom owns Darkstalkers I think. And maybe Rival Schools too. Not sure anyway Capcom loves making amazing remakes, reboots, remasters, maybe there’s a chance of those two coming back. Power Stone is that owned by Sega? Google just told me it’s owned by Capcom too. So IDK maybe there’s a chance for all three of those. Konami doesn’t like making video games anymore so there’s definitely no chance (or probably not at least) for Bloody Roar sadly as much as I would love it. It would be awesome if those games all came back.
Holy crap, that story for Blood Roar 4 is just a string of random words put together from a natural language parser that has only been trained on video game movie plots that were translated from english to japanese and then back to english. What a trip!
Bloody Roar: Primal fury is burned into my subconscious. As a broke boi, I wanna say it was one of those Wal-Mart demo/trial games you'd run off to while your parents shopped...
So I decided to see what Eighting has been up to since MvC3 and surprised to find out that they are still making "Fighting Games", just not very complex ones. They have been making more generic 3D Anime style fighting games similar to games like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series or Jojo's Bizzare Adventure All Star Battle. Their last two games in this sub-genre (I guess?) were Kamen Rider Climax Scramble and Zoids Wild: King of Blast (which is certainly a name). In fact speaking of Kamen Rider, it was also interesting to find out they've been making console Kamen Rider games since the first Climax Heroes on PS2 and developed that series as well as the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors' styled Battride War games.
the moment i fgured out his combo from human into beast drive finisher.... i was the happiest boy on earth. And hence forth I build the stomp attack randomly into the combo chain.... so cool. Gado's hidden combo was a nice find too.
Freeway was great, but I nominate Primal Fury's Main Menu as possibly best menu theme of all time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qvKUNfQq8Uo.html
Bloody Roar 2 was our go-to game when I was I think 11 up until I was 14. I never owned a copy, so it was one of those games where my friends and I played at the house of our one friend who had a copy. Ahhh sweet nostalgia. PS: I mostly played either Stun or Bakuryu. PSS: I forgot about Shenlong. Shenlong was pretty strong.
Aw man, the memories. I loved Bloody roar, and while sure you could call me a furry in this instance, I had such a crush on Alice and her alternate form. Then.. primal fury changed her model design turning her from a bunny lady, to basically a bunny.. with vaguely anthro features.
Yeah, I never cared for what Primal Fury did to Alice's Bunny form. Said form definitely looked best in the first game. 2 was okay, but 3 made her look all weird in her default outfit, like her pelvis was dislocated or something.
@@SquallNoctisGUX fight money gains are getting consistently lower, they added loot boxes, theres so many dlc costumes its not even funny, there are about 3 good newcomers in a sea of boring dicks, it took em years to have an arcade mode and are acting like the addition of one was a big deal worth paying extra...you sure about that statement buddy?
Capcom: We were gonna...but Itsuno wanted a bajillion dollars to make Dragon’s Dogma 2. We gave the Street Fighter dept a bowl of rice and some tap water to get them through the rest of the year.
@@isaacsussman5632 “they added loot boxes” Lootboxes that you cant spend real money on and only give some new colors for default costumes or some random objects to put in the dojo? oh noes how dare they! “There so many dlc costumes” so what? are you some fortnite baby that feels an urge to buy every skin available? if they keep making costumes because people buy them, people buy them bacause they like what they see “there are about 3 good newcomers” So how many GOOD newcomers would the game need to receive your holiness approval? 4? 5? maybe 14?. fuuny thing is, 3 good newcomes is more than sf4 ever had LMAO! “acting like the addition of one was a big deal worth paying extra” paying extra for what exactly? arcade mode was a free update for everybody when AE cameout, dummy. Yes it should had been there from the start but capcom sometimes gonna capcom The only good argument you bring is the lower fight money income, i guess grinding harder to get free characters is something the sfv fan base had to deal with. I notice that none of what you said had nothing to do with the actual core of the game, you know the actual gameplay. Maybe @X's ARCADE is right, sfv is a fine game. lol
Damn right this doesn't feel like a fighting era for me until i see this back. The battles mechanic is way more unique they have fast dodge, hyper or Rave mode & lightning counter that made you invincible for second & that Beast Drive there was nothing so brutal so lethal as those in any fighting game.
It’s so crazy that you uploaded this cuz just a WEEK ago i was remembering that this series existed and started to watch BR2 videos on youtube to reminisce on the times when i was 10 years old and rented the game any chance i got. i loved that game so much also just a couple days ago i ordered BR: Extreme for the xbox. i can’t wait till i receive it. thanks for such a throwback of a video
6:10 Tylon experiments MITSUKO’S DAUGHTER IS A CAT but after reacue she cannot fully transform... BTW her boss beast form is Uranus the Chimera... was that the plan? A Chimera army?
I'm so happy you did this video. I'm really into the FGC and Bloody Roar is a game that always gets criminally overlooked. Primal Fury was my jam and i still play it with friends constantly.
I never played anything past BRII, but man, what a fun game. You hit the nail on the head: this was something anyone could pick up and play, but with enough depth to be rewarding. I used to play it with the kids I was babysitting all the time.
I played Primal Fury and Bloody Roar 4, I bought them at a game store for really cheap when I was a teen and they provided some fun for the summer. Thanks for covering the series 👍
Had to do a double take when I saw this video pop up on my feed. Loved these series so much, and yeah, it was definitely one of those fun weekend fighters! Excellent work on the vid!
I loved playing Bloody Roar 3. I was a young boy with a PS2 and this fighting game is a total gem for me. I dont like fighting games much but this aside from MK made me a fan of the genre. So much fun. Im ssd HUDSON disappeared.
my friend and I actually pooled money to collect most of the Bloody Roar games a few years back, we've had a blast playing them, I would be so excited for a sequel
From Bahrain here! The sports club that housed the taekwondo I used to go to when I was 12, had a bloody roar 2 cabinet setup in the main lobby. I used to gawk at that cabinet along with afterburner, and metal slug the most.
On one hand, the nostalgia runs deep. I'm glad to have played all of them when I was younger (including that Beastorizer arcade game, but in a roller rink). And I wholesomely agree--that Siliconera article was indeed a hard FU. But on the other hand, some fighters and practices today---not to mention that Konami possibly has rights to this, what?!---kinda makes me fearful of Bloody Roar's return to relevance. I'd welcome a new game, but with a bit of caution. This is a great vid, though. Consider me subbed!
Yugo's sprint + jump & double kick was awesome. You would run from the other side of the ring to violenly push the opponement against the fence breaking it and winning the round.
I would LOVE a remake/reboot of the series featuring the entire cast of the first 2 games. I still play bloody roar 1 and 2 to current times because I love the lore and characters.
A local Ice rink had a Beastorizers cabinet for a little while and I'm convince it only ever got my quarters cause I was the only kid that ever played that thing. Then I never saw anything about this series until years later when I found Primal Fury at a thrift shop and picked it up, I still boot it up occasionally. Would love to see a new Bloody Roar game but I think odds are low for that right now.
My god I remember playing Bloody Roar with my cousins back then. It along with Melee and Street Fighter were my first look into the fighting game genre. My favorite character was Yugo the shonen protagonist Wolf.
1. Bloody Roar is coming back. I found out after a lot of investigating. Don't say I didn't tell you, and don't even try to hit me with the old Konami pessimistic attitude, because Bomberman R, and the turbografx 16 mini with Hudson titles are right there. Konami/Hudson has done good, recently. (if you exclude what they've done to SIlent Hill, and Contra. I won't include Metal Gear since Metal Gear Survive is a spinoff..) Eighting's still around too, so they can def. make a new BR alongside "Kohudson" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SB1Qu6RA2lo.html 2. Loves the hell out of BR3. Friends and I played that so much, disc got worn out. Wish I had kept it. Didn't think I'd go for such a high price these days 😂
Uranus is most likely a clone of Uriko, the BR1 Uriko to be exact Its kinda disappointing that with so many MGS VA being in Primal Fury, they did not cast David Hayter as Xion, for those who did not know, was THE Guyfer, the 2nd live action one, to be exact
Bloody Roar was my first real fighting game. It was my favorite thing to play whenever we made the trip to see our grandparents, and my uncle would come over. Oddly enough, the game was still called Bloody Roar, and not "Beastorizer" which... Probably suggests my uncle might have gotten a not-so-legal copy back then. I liked it so much that I was floored when my dad got us a PS2 and BR3. Absolutely my favorite fighting game, and few others manage to get close to what I liked so much about it. Bloody Roar is also probably the reason why I like strong women so much, cuz... Shina... Thanks for telling me about Primal Fury, I need to look for a copy now.
Oh, the happiness and sadness this video makes me feel. Happy that people still love Bloody Roar as much as I do..and sad that we'll probably never see a new entry. Especially if Konami does still hold the license. It'll be left to die like so many others..
Thanks to Konami we'll NEVER see another proper Bloody Roar game ever again. Btw Uriko the cat is really the first iteration of the Chimera Project, similar to Uranus the Chimera, Uriko lost her memories which is why she was only able to transform half way which is the cat girl form.
As a kid, my dad had a demo disc with one of the, “Bloody Roar” games on it, I don’t remember which one. I do remember enjoying it as a kid, and also remember my dad referring to it as, “Boring Snore” lmao, we played mostly Tekken 3 at the time.
Bloody roar on the playstation family of systems was a huge part of my childhood. The third installment being my favorite. I cant count the number of hours i spent in practice honing my skills so i could whoop on my buds.
Bloody Roar is such a fantastic series and gave me a lot of inspiration for my own characters and stories and I would kill for a Bloody Roar 5 made with love and care and not as a throwaway title just for the sake of saying "Here, you got it" Though personally if I could make one change to BR if they ever did that would be to change Nagi's beast form to something more beastly, make her into a Kiwi Bird or a Praying Mantis or something, not this Kasumi from Dead or Alive badly cosplaying Bloodrayne while flailing around weaponized tumors, maybe add some extra characters like those from Metamorphic Force or something or maybe a guest character like Jon Talbain from Darkstalkers he would be perfect for that kind of game and would be a nice change of pace instead of adding the Scottish Charlotte Flair known as Morrigan.
1000% on board here. A-cho or Kouhatsu some other arcade still has matches and even tournaments for BR 1, 2 and 3 cabs. One of my greatest failings in life is never having found the anime series which most definitely is a real thing that existed in some capacity, just not now. Also Extreme was on Gamecube (in Japan) as well with Fang in it, progressive scan enabled and the animated scenes removed for weird CGI.
Ok, before even watching I want to say THANK YOU! Bloody Roar 2 is THE game that got me seriously into fighting games. Sure I had played my share of MD/Genesis titles (SSF2turbo, MK3, Fatal Fury) but BR2 really was the first fighting game that got me so enthralled to learn and practice combos with all the characters to the point nobody would want to play against me any more when I was 10 and I had, like, 4 games on the PlayStation. It will always have a sweet spot in my heart :')
I remember playing bloody roar 1 for the first time with my brother and cousins when I was younger, it was amazing. We all took turns trying to beat that arcade mode with our favorite character and trying to beat each other in versus. It was truly a memory I cherish dearly. I need bloody roar to come back.
This man said Umemaro 3D... Lol. I remember seeing Bloody Roar in FYE as a kid, though i never got to play it. I finally had my chance w/Bloody Roar 2. i loved doing the rapid punch attack w/Long the Tiger; it looked so cool; he was my favorite! The next time i saw Bloody Roar was w/Primal Fury. It was such an improvement over 2. Shina's titties bounced. She became my new favorite. That game had a lot of cool stuff though, probably my favorite in the series. I enjoyed Bloody Roar 4, the extra Beast Drives and Nagi was my favorite. But F**k that dragon monk and his loli maiden too (well, the dragon was kinda cool).
oh MAN this brings back some nostalgia, the first bloody roar was the first fighting game i ever played. i was like 6 and i loved it (even though my mum made me play with the blood setting turned off), and until a couple years ago i had no idea that it was even a franchise with other entries. i'm not a really active fighting games person but i love the gimmick so much that if they ever rebooted it i'd probably pick up a copy
I hope that one day Bloody Roar returns and as great as my favorite Bloody Roar 3. Too bad I never played Bloody Roar Primal Fury that sounded good too.
I'm late to this but a few insights. Bloody Roar II was indeed available in arcades at least it was in Asia. Not sure about regional versions, but for Bloody Roar 3, Xion wasn't "Unborn" but labeled as "Antlion" which makes much more sense with his beast form looking more like an insect or Kamen Rider who is based off an ant as well.
The best part of bloody rorar 4, you could get moves from different characters to yours. This makes unlimited variations or you can just have the best fighting style with your fighter.
I remember for a long time, I was asking for a bloody roar wha happun a lot of years ago. Looks like he finally got to it in this retrospective format and I didn't see it until now lol
This makes me sad,i love the bloody roar series and knowing Konami has a death grip on the ip,i feel like we will never get another great Bloody Roar game again #FuckKonami.
Konami needs to redeem themselves by being sane again by firing that asshole Hideki Hayakawa he's just as worst as the current president of WWE who's been fucking up the WWE literately Nick Khan or should I said Shao Nick Kahn!
MY GOD I MISS THAT GAME!!! I will talk with some people that I brought this game up and it was funny how everybody remembered after I brought it up but it’s great to see you I’m not the only one that love this damn franchise!!!
Bro your videos and commentary are hilarious and insightful. I really hope we get a new Bloody Roar this was one series that was a huge part of my childhood.
Wow I can’t believe you made a vid on bloody roar. So old school I love it. Used to play it all the time. Completely forgot about this game. Great vid 👍🏻
I loved the first Bloody Roar. I chose it from blockbuster one day as a kid. Must have been just for the name alone. The boss in the first game I believe is a little girl and some of her origin is revealed by unlock. I know the second one was more popular and Egoraptor was a fan of it and once said he played it in a competition. I never played the sequels myself. The fox being dropped kind of sucks because that was a favorite of mine. Discovered later she is possibly transgender. She was definitely born male. Always seemed kind of androgynous.
Hans has the same deal as Poison with different regions giving different definitions but certainly queer. I personally found fascinating if applying a self indentification journey being muddled further by being able to transform into the fox. Some of their moves were given to Jenny but not really the same. And the boss girl is Uriko and Uranus.
Oh man, this brings back the memories. I remember buying a Japanese bootleg copy of BR2 for PS1. That metal music video intro had me won over. And I hadn't even started the game. That game was so hype. #BRINGBACKBLOODYROAD
Everyone has there own favourite nostalgic fighting game I liked Cardinal Sin, killing floor Digimon rumble, jurrasic park warpath an the unholy war But only bloody roar 2 is in the top 5 fighting games on PS1
Man I had that jurassic park game it was awesome when you ate a human or a tiny dinosaur to get some health back, and I broke 2 controllers from playing br2 so much
