I had this one friend who always played Little Mac with 1 joycon. I always asked him why he didn't just use a pro controller or 2 joycons whenever we had a surplus. Some people really just like Joy Cons.
agreed. Ben Shapiro is 40, not 70, he should for sure know what cpu means. Theyre just playing up the "we're old and dont know young people things" schtick. Its funny cuz neither are even that old. @pinkerproductions7420
@@ck9618Nah. The modern design of the Pro Controller is more accurate for these guys, unlike the classic GameCube’s, which would make them say is awful because one botton is bigger than the others and so on.
@@r.e.z9428 wait...wait you make a good point. Game & Watch is the oldest character in the roster, has very spammable moves, and is deadly in the right player's hands (like Maister)
@@raymicheals4127 its the concept that they should remember. the last mario kart i played new was 64 but on bring your kids to work day the kids had a switch and i had no problem showing them how its done on the new game. ben/matt arent that old but they play these things as if they where in their 80s. doesnt make sense.
Not letting them play on a GameCube controller, giving them items, making them play on really bad stages, and making them play on time, not explaining how the game works, are all equally brutal.
@masonseminario7435 They work, they're just not ideal for most. Awkward and easy to miss inputs. A full pro controller makes it significantly easier to "do what you need to do" properly and precisely.
*Ben almost picks pac man, an S tier character* Matt: you gonna pick Pac man? He has no powers. *ben switches off and goes DK* Intentional or not that was a pro gamer move right there
Ben & Matt are the sort of guys who think they could fly a fighter jet with minimal instructions, but act like video games are too complicated for them.
The not funny, not clever, & definitely not a 'dis' boomer is such a stupid word that brain dead , useless brats call anyone over 35/40 who actually has a work ethic, manners, & common courtesy.
Video games ARE hard to play when you actually do physical activities, read, exercise..... The comment that your superior because you can 'easily' master (hours of playing with yourself) nofriendo is so ridiculous.
I declare this match invalid. The vile fiends who set this up have committed multiple serious crimes against these good hosts. Exhibit 1: The Tutorial Video It is clear that the organizers of this match have withheld the tutorial video provided by the game itself from the two contestants. The contestants were as result blind to the nature of the game and could not reasonably craft offensive and defensive strategies in the match. Exhibit 2: The Controllers The organizers of the match have denied these two contestants their humanity by not providing suitable controllers. They instead forced two grown men to use a pager to control their characters like animals. Exhibit 3: The Stage Hazards The organizers placed the contestants on stages with non disabled hazards that constantly interrupted the fight and potentially altered the outcome of the battle. Exhibit 4: The Items Despite being advertised as test of skill between the two contestants, the organizers have sullied the match with items. With their inclusion, the organizers have turned the match into a game of luck instead of skill. We as the audience have been denied a conclusive winner. This could make for a special episode of Judged, although Judge Walsh is a victim and cannot preside over the case.
The people working behind the scenes for this show know nothing about tech They are just normies who grew up with the tech. They all have iPhones bc it’s easy They’ve never turned off smooth motion on their tvs
Here’s a Super Smash Bros. crash course for Ben and Matt. The object of Super Smash Bros. is not to deplete your opponent’s health bar, it’s to knock them off the playing field. By landing hits and racking up damage, the more likely you are to knock your opponent off the field. When your damage percentage goes up, you get knocked back more whenever you get hit. Once you hit your opponent entirely off the screen or you get hit off the screen, that’s KO. Depending on the game mode, you win by either getting more KOs than your opponent, or being the last man standing by depleting your opponent’s stocks (extra lives).
The last part of that depends on the fighting rules. They were playing a timed match, stock was not involved, but instead the amount of deaths you accrue vs the kills you gain determine the winner
@@TheBeggies95 Partially because my life moved on and I had more adult things I needed to focus my time on, partially because DLC pack 2 was aids and ruined a game that was in theory supposed to reward player skill.
@@TheBeggies95 I'm not the one you asked, but I did competitive Smash back in the Melee days. (such as it was) I aged out. Once you hit your 30s, your reflexes start to slip.
@@yoshisaidit7250 why would any of us give af if a YT content creator thinks video games are a waste of time? Lmfao. No, I absolutely don't care that Walsh isn't in to gaming. And no, DW wouldn't ban video games if they could because people on this platform actually care about the first amendment.
@@TheOneTrueSmurfinator-sf6le I truly hope they make more videos like this where they play Nintendo games. It'll be tough convincing them, but I'm sure the producers can at least try.
They didn't have anyone on set who actually had a decent idea of how the game works? They should do this again but with someone properly explaining the rules of the game and giving them some sort of idea for the controls. Give them real controllers too and use flat neutral stages.
It's a novelty video, they rarely play video games. Also they're parents, so they aren't going to be instantly aware of standard comp rules, the usual setup (1 switch with all unlocks, game cube controller and dock, official judge/referee, roster even if just a 1v1 which lists the teams and their stage name). They appear to be playing for fun, otherwise Nintendo DS stage has Stage Hazards is illegal, they have no character unlocks, and paused a match without a valid standard competition reason. Pausing usually results in the offendor to lose a stock, if pausing a match caused the victim to lose a stock, they basically either are forced to lose the match or are disqualified.
@@DuncanWilliamsOFFICIAL yeah, but they were showing and verbalizing discomfort before they even started. They don't need the optimal setup, but pro controllers would be way more comfortable and akin to what they already know
@@-8h- they're conservatives, displaying discomfort is not a sign of traditional, conservative values of stoicism. Also I understand the switch pro controller argument (despite the fact we didn't see them adjust button layout as per usual with most smash players with the in-game settings). Using joycons with smash bros is as Wii Wheel as it gets, I know.
@@lowserver2 someone during a panel asked him to finally watch an anime. Matt Walsh thinks anime is stupid and for children. During the panel, the comment section overwhelmingly said that he should watch death note as his “first” anime experience. For a guy like Matt I know he would enjoy it
I'M SO ANGRY MAKENNA DOESN'T KNOW HOW THE DAMAGE PERCENTAGE WORKS!! RARRRR! Did I help? Also...can I play? I haven't gotten to play Smash Bros with...anyone...in over a decade. I miss it.
Nintendo is one thing ypu guys shouldnt worry too much about your kids having as long as its in moderation Also too much restraint can be bad too, allowing your kids time on a video game isnt always bad
This was too great. Watching them play games is fun. Especially when Klavan played Elden Ring. But man watching them fight against each other is the best! 😂
Everyone knows the proper way to play smash bros is to turn off all items (the only acceptable one is the final smash ball), use TWO joycons per person so you can actually fight well, put the time on unlimited, set it to a 3 stock battle, set the stage to final destination, and get rid of CPUs. Only THEN can the true skills of a gamer be put to the test in smash bros.
Matt is a true gamer at heart. He just doesn't have time to devote his attention to it because he has a family. At least his priorities are in order 🎮👍
Matt and Ben playing Ultimate made my day, truly! I bet Ben's wife would main Doctor Mario. Edit: Honestly they should have gotten Michael, Andrew and Brett in on this as well. Ultimate can handle up to 8 players at a time. Later on in the video, Ben talks about how he might wanna play Super Mario Getting the DW hosts together to play Super Mario Wonder (4 player game) would be awesome.
My main was Dr. Mario in Melee. I won a small tournament at the ESPN skatepark outside of Atlanta, GA one time. All I won was a multi cd case with a GameCube logo on it. I wasn’t a fan of the ones that came out after Melee.
@@spaomalley I haven’t played the N64 one, and it’s been a long time since I’ve played Melee, which I only played like once, but I actually think that the Super Slash Bros series got better as it went on. Sakurai knows how to make a good game, and he kept adding more and more content while both refining and keeping the simple gameplay.
@@spaomalley fair enough, and congratulations on your win! I totally get where you're coming from. My girlfriend grew up with Smash 4 and didn't like the changes they made with Smash 5. I on the other hand grew up with 5 and thus am more used to its fast-paced gameplay.
As a conservative teen who plays Super Smash Bros. (somtimes) competitively, this was hilarious and amusing to watch 🤣♥️! You should have Matt react to Kpop, that's another big popular genre of music in Gen Z that I would like to watch him critique. I enjoy the music myself, but there are some things or some of the songs I don't agree with. Anyway, great video! :D
Same here I love Smash Bros! (Nintendo is about all I was allowed to play when I was little and now I love it) Out of curiosity though who's your main?
@HarukaKurosawa It’s so satisfying to hit with certain moves like his down smash (which my siblings have now dubbed the "Toe Crusher"), foward air, up air, up smash etc. His slow movement doesn't even bother me (besides not being accurate to the character in canon.)
Good thing Knowles wasn’t there, he’d start philosophizing: “You know, St Thomas Aquinas tells us that video games mark the path towards the devil’s playground…” or some such nonsense 😂
when even Matt Walsh's first comment about Joycons is "i feel like it's gonna break in our hands" you know Nintendo is at it's lowest haha I almost love the Switch, but these did us Nintendo fans dirty with the terrible hardware.
I wish they were made to watch the beginning intro video. When you turn on the game, just leave it and it gives instructions on how to play and how to win a round. It’s like a 40 second video. Rematch!
No tutorial? C’mon… This is like opening a board game, looking at the board, playing around with the cards & pieces without even glancing at the rules. Then, after making no effort to understand the basics of the game, saying, “board games are dumb.”
Next time make sure both Ben and Matt play on a flat stage with a 3-stock and no items rule set. Another thing for both of them. Bottom button: Special attacks. It’s the unique attacks that each character has. Each character has 3 different special attacks, depending on what way you move your joy stick (left/right, up, down) The up-special is used to recover from being off stage, for most characters. Right button: normal attacks. These attacks are basic, depending on what type of fighter the character is. Let’s say you choose PAC-MAN. PAC-MAN is a brawler type fighter, so his normal attacks are punches and kicks. If you choose a sword character like Marth, his normal attacks would be sword slashes. If you chose Mii Gunner, the normal attacks would consist of punches and projectiles. Left/up buttons: Jump. These tow buttons are your jump buttons. Most characters have double-jumps (they can jump twice), and few characters have more than two jumps (good for beginners) Smash attacks: You can charge up your attacks by moving your joystick right/left, up, and down, and hold the normal attack button at the same time. The longer you charge, the more powerful your smash attack becomes, and the more likely you will kill your opponent at an early percentage. Top right shoulder button: this is your shield. You can block the attacks of the opponent, but the shield will take damage the longer the opponent hits it. Using your shield for too long and you will break it, causing your character to become dizzy for a good 5-6 seconds before you are able to regain control of your character. Top left shoulder button: this is your grab. You can grab opponents and damage them whether you throw them (left/right joystick movement), slam them to the ground (down joystick movement), or launch them up in the air (up joystick movement).
wtf why didn’t you guys give them regular controllers with access to all the fighters? You gave them single joycons and access to half the roster. As a Smash Bros fan, I am disgusted by this.
Dude, don't worry about it. Ben and Matt aren't gamers at all, and were clearly flustered by Ultimate's chaotic gameplay. I'm just happy the DW producers convinced them to play in the first place. They probably should be given pro controllers to make playing easier next time though. I bet some of the producers have switches so we'll see.
@@Laughy-Flaaffy _cough cough_ Masahiro Sakurai intended the game to be played casually _cough cough_ Flaaf, I love Smash probably slightly less than you do, but you gotta at least give DW credit for at least trying to reach out to us nerds. Ben and Matt frantically mashing their joycons was a pretty clippable scene.
Can we pleeeeeaaaaase have them play Green Hell??? 🙏🙏🙏 It’s a jungle survival game where you have to build shelters, hunt, and avoid dying painfully. You can have up to four players. Matt loves watching the survival show Alone, so this would be right up his alley.
I haven't heard of it, but it could be pretty fun. However, Minecraft and Terraria have more notoriety online, so those would probably be better choices if the DW producers want these kinds of videos to stick.
Ben and Matt's colleagues are so shitty for not teaching them how to play the game.. and giving them the shittiest controllers to play with to! Someone needs to get fired. lol
