She's actually completely correct despite being a terrible debater. Matt is just pulling a "I don't understand the topic so therefore you're wrong" move because he's just denying everything she says on bad faith. She may be giving only anecdotes, but actual scientists have agreed for decades that gender affirming care produces positive results in trans people that drastically decreases ideation and saves lives. There is a wealth of peer reviewed studies on various facets of this topic to back that up. Counseling, Hormone Therapy, and Reassignment Surgery save lives. She is also completely right about trans brains. Gender is different from sex, and while it is influenced by ones chromosomal sex, it is also influenced by hormone balance, hormone production, and hormone receptor length. Trans people literally have the brain chemistry of the gender they identify as rather than the brain chemistry of the gender associated with their biological sex. This is the exact process which causes gender dysphoria in the first place, a type of depression trans people often struggle with, because of the dissonance between ones brain chemistry and physical image. Matt has absolutely no idea what he's talking about, and the fact that he can say the equivalent of "nuh uhh" in response to facts and still be interpreted as the winner of a debate by so many people is beyond me.

I do neuroscience as part of my degree and A) anatomy does not study the brain and B) it’s false. There are some subtle differences in the brain of a man and a woman and what she describes are most likely behavioural tendencies, things that wouldn’t be used to classify male and female
im so glad you do neuroscience, but did you do high school? in high school, they mix a lot of stuff together in one class and sometimes the teachers give little random facts that aren’t part of the unit. I personally learned this fact in psych 1 at 15, not anatomy, but I do remember my anatomy teacher talking about the brain quite a lot…

Most likely mis-remembered and further mis-read the information. If it was something in anatomy class when she was 16, the information was most likely presented as a THEORY with current research being done on said theory, not a scientifically vetted fact. (Heck, there is still a lot about the brain and neurology that we don’t know, like the ocean. It’s still a pretty new field of study.) As for her google search-and I just checked-what current research shows is a difference in those who have gender disphoria/gender incongruence (they feel they are a different gender from their biological sex) compared against ANY other male and female brains. The brains generally still show characteristics seen in their biological sex. And the slight differences we do see is EVIDENCE of SOMETHING going on, just as we see differences in the brains of people who meditate a lot, are addicted to or at least consume a lot of p*rn, or are super gifted/practiced in a particular skillset. Between all of the examples I just gave not all of the differences in the brain are indicators of health and well being. If anything, the current research gives science reason to vet out theories of whether these differences seen in transgender and gender dysphoric individuals are expressions of health or expressions of damage (like in the case of substance addictions). It is also important to consider that in our current age media and the internet can easily take facts and write opinion pieces, not reports. It happens in new broadcasting and publications. It happens to reports about research results too. Science theory is validated BY trying to disprove that theory from every angle possible. That is how sound science is done.

M.S in Anatomy and neurobiology here. There isn't much diffeent between male and fenale besides the usage of grey matter in male are often result a larger lobes. However, its not always true when you dissect the cadaver. The way to differentiate are the bone structures such as bone sizes, angle (pelvis), jawline, tibia..etc. But i just dont see the point of associating men brain and transmen brain with happiness.

I know a young trans man. Doctors have told her that her ovaries are behaving as testicle. She's not producing sperm or testosterone and she still has normal, regular menstrual cycles... so her ovaries are still behaving as normal, healthy ovaries and her doctors are blatantly lying to her for their own financial gain. Period. As for gender specific brain differences , according to Stamford University Hospital... "Adjusted for total brain size (men's are bigger), a woman's hippocampus, critical to learning and memorization, is larger than a man's and works differently. Conversely, a man's amygdala, associated with the experiencing of emotions and the recollection of such experiences, is bigger than a woman's." So I'd like to see evidence of any variation in physical structure by gender identification.
If I remember, I never actually went too deep on this, but there was a study showing that wanting to be a trans, as the only reason being changing gender, which means no traumas, no life problems, only wanting to change gender. This was actually related to a defect on some part of the brain, caused by some mutation. I don't even know if the site or article is still up, probably not. I by how things have been, even if this were to be true, I don't think we will find out.

They're told that they'll end up committing suicide if they don't transition but in reality, both attempted suicide the suicide rate spike post transition. A trans man is someone who was assigned the gender female at birth but identifies as a man. A trans woman is someone who was assigned male as birth but identifies as a woman. The terminology can be a bit complicated but there is no shame in asking. I hope you understand better now :)
yes. The biological sex is inherent. That however does not necessarily coincide with gender. Sometimes someone's sex doesn't align with the gender they feel they belong to. That is called being trans. It's not because you have never felt that way or you don't understand these people's feelings that they are not real or that they are a delusion. I don't understand what being trans feels like either but I don't deny the existence of trans people. It's called compassion and you should try it sometime.

Yeah I've made the mistake she did... She assumed it was common knowledge and that he wouldn't harp on the citation. Although she explained her position horribly, I remember there being some truth in what she said. There are often common differences found in the brain of some of those who are not straight or whatever (it's just not something I care enough about to remember precisely).

Regions of the brain that seem to be associated with emotional experience and gender expression will resemble that of the opposite biological sex in a transgender person. To me it’s very important because it validates the feelings/experience of legitimately trans people. A lot of these right-wing figures seem to enjoy catching lefties fumbling on their words as if it’s proof that they’re full of BS, but it’s true she could’ve explained more objectively.

There's also studies showing that when trans identifying people are left alone the majority of them will eventually identify as gay or their born sex. Also it's not the physical structure it's the brain patterns, portions of the brain that one sex or the other predominantly uses. As well as areas of the brain that may be more or less formed affecting brain chemistry. Which has also been shown to affected by environment. One study found liberal men given a dose of testosterone were shown to start supporting more conservative ideals and when both sides were tested conservative men tended to have higher testosterone levels. Additionally there was a survey, so I can't claim it as scientific so I'll grant that it could be anecdotal, in it liberal women were shown to have a higher percentage of them on anti depressants. What it science fundamentally shows is there are only two sexes/genders. The overlap is greater than the disparity however the disparity is enough to have standardized norms that people will more strongly lean towards. XX and XY are the norms and deviations are abnormal. A dog born with three legs or blind is abnormal it doesn't make it a monkey. A cat raised with dogs or other way around will exhibit the characteristics of the other species. In nature mimicry is a self preservation method. "Identify" is just a pseudo-psychological way of saying "feel". Feelings have been given the equivalence of facts in too many science forums and is too politically driven with no scientific backing. "My reality' or "lived experience" still has to abide by the objective laws of reality. By allowing mental disorders to be allowed instead of treated by professionals people have fed the delusional false realities that have been created. Words have objective definitions and our language has been hijacked to allow anything to be anything in attempts to support subjectivity vs objective reality.

My brother is trans. (Born a female) Ever since we where kids, around puberty he stopped liking “girly” things, he always chose to be the male character instead of the female character in games where it was an option, he never shaved his legs or up-kept his hair, whore baggy clothes and felt gender dysphoria. He’s so much more comfortable in his skin after cutting his hair, my little cousin would call him a he when they played outside because of how he acted and portrayed himself, he just didn’t act feminine, it was more Tom boy ish but it soon became masculinity. I fully support my brother, I believe trans people exist, I don’t believe in 78+ different gender identity’s though. I think trans people should have the right to get the sex changes, name changes and whatever may be. I don’t know what this debate is coming from or what exactly they are debating but that’s my take. :)
