Nintendo vs Sega. Xbox vs PlayStation. We've had some pretty classic rivalries in the video game console industry over the years, but how much do you know about the very first one? Let's revisit the time when Mattel launched the Intellivision and decided to go straight for Atari's throat!

Very cool! You just earned yourself a new subscriber! I have an Intellivision that I am going to do the 1.) recap 2.) RGB mod 3.) replace the controller. Hopefully I can document the process in a video on my channel.

Hope you manage to get it working, there's something to be said about playing on real hardware. Thanks for subscribing!

One of my father's friends had an Intellivision when i was a kid, and i remember being surprised that there was something other than Atari. Then i discovered Snafu and played it for hours when we visited there :)

Omg this was great! I had no idea Mattel was going in so hard at Atari that they went whining to networks to get the commercials pulled. This all wend down before my era of gaming but I have taken the time to play both Atari 2600 as well as Intellivision games on compilation discs during the PS2/Gamecube era and it definitely outclassed the Atari 2600 without question. I think it's safe to say Intellivision was the most powerful game console at that time until the Colecovision came along with it's higher resolution graphics but to me Intellivision had the most colorful or vibrant graphics of that generation too.

then there's the Colecovision that had an expansion module to play 2600 games!

Intellivision Star Strike was a farce! All flash & no substance. I’d take Asteroids any day of the week. Space Battle on Intellivision on the other hand was awesome!

I had an Intellevision growing up. We enjoyed it. Years later through compilation collections and plug and plays I think ATARI is far superior. It looks worse but the games are way more fun and easier to control unlike Intellevision's horrible controller. 2600 might have had a faster processor too because games run at 60 FPS and are just faster and more intense experiences.

Yeah, even though the Intellivision's CPU was 16-bit, it actually had a slower clock speed (900Hz) than the 2600 (1.19MHz). The GPU was also only capable of displaying 16 colours compared to the 2600 that could display 128 colours.

thats odd when id play intellivision it always seemed to kid me that the sprites were more detailed and the games had more color. i wonder if there was ever a 2600 game that had that many colors. i found the video really fascinating. goes to show you that the fastest or "best" hardware doesnt always win the battle, comes down to the games, and at that time atari was the word that i remember people using when they meant video game. same as nintendo later, then sega, then ps1, xbox, ps2 etc. @@WhitePointerGaming

@@joshfacio9379 The atari 2600 boot screen displays a good amount of colours.
