@@kathymetzle8099 To each their own! They were just too much for me. I _think_ it started with the Ralph breaks the internet dolls onwards, but I can't recall
I can definitely see your point on the Comfy dolls from Ralph breaks the internet. They look startled like a deer caught in headlights! But I do own many of them and I have a fondness for them anyway.
Ur wish came true! Im so happy about this hasbro sucked and these will be sm better and more accurate and won't look cartoony and actually look like themselves and have the right proportions
I'm actually quite excited that Mattel has gotten back the license for many reasons.. Like for instance the live action Disney dolls made by Hasbro were garbage in my opinion and Mattel has proven through their Marvel dolls ,Harry Potter dolls and also other dolls like the live action Cinderella and Enchanted that they are better with realistic human face moulds.. But I do hope they give new and slightly better face moulds for the animated style dolls cuz toward the end of their partnership with Disney, the face moulds were pretty awful and didn't resemble who they were meant to be.. Also I feel at the start Mattel will definitely be making excellent quality dolls as they don't want to give a bad impression like immediately..
The thing is, *some* of the Hasbro Disney dolls were horrible, low quality, molded on clothes, etc. but *others* were much better. It will def be interesting to see what Mattel does. (I mostly collect dolls for repainting, so the big head cartoony proportions are def NOT to my liking because I personally do NOT like those proportions for repaints)
i couldnt agree more, This should be awarded "most relevant", anyway i myself dont like the oversized heads as well. and the molded clothes?, Ackkk.. nope. Mattel is the Doll expert they deserve disney (some disney mattel dolls are not really nice?) but Most of them are perfect so yeah, Mattel win win
@@Nakia11798 This was what I was coming to say, when I got my daughter these dolls I was like WTH you can't interchange the dolls clothes or shoes with the regular barbies.
One thing I enjoyed about Hasbro was that they looked at the Princesses as individual characters since Mattel dumbed them down to just being pretty. I remember packaging for one of the last Mulan dolls mentioning that she's sparkly and ready to find her true love at the ball which was obviously a copy-paste statement because Cinderella had the same thing on her box. There's nothing wrong with being feminine but the fact that they were stripped of their quirks to be marketable as a whole unit (while still giving the brown girls the short end of the stick) is what bothered me. I'm really hoping they learned from that mistake and do something new. Another thing I read is that they bombed the Princess lineup, MH, and EAH because Barbie was doing poorer than all of them (because half-printed skirts and Paris Hilton makeup was the only thing they would serve us) and they didn't want their poster girl to "fail" but the past few years have changed that so....
i feel like this is what mattel needed in order to step up their game. they saw what a big loss it was, so hopefully now they’re more invested in the brand!
Disney was also upset bc of the way mattel was treating the disney princess and frozen dolls at the time and it was bc of barbie sales began to drop which is why the quality of the monster high and disney princess became cheaper then when they lost the license they lost a lot of money which is why monter high and ever after high were discontinued so hopefully since mattel is getting the license back the quality in their dolls will be better and im more just happy bc they will have the right proportions again
This is the longest Run on sentence I’ve ever read in my life goddamn lmfao. Use your punctuation dawg, that was rough to read. Pay attention in school kids.
Isaac Larien says that Disney gets like 19% of the profits of the Disney Princesses, which is why MGA isn't interested in doing a line like that as MGA prefers to grow their own brands. It also explains why Mattel and Hasbro tend to go super budget in their Disney dolls when they get complacent if a huge fraction of the money is going back to Disney anyway. I think Mattel getting the licence makes a lot of sense because, aside from Barbie, Monster High, Hot Wheels, and He Man, Mattel doesn't have a lot of evergreen in house brands the same way Hasbro does (mainly from a mix of buying up smaller companies but also going full tilt with 80s toy media that's ongoing even now). Aside from Ever After High, one of the big reasons Disney pulled the licence was because Mattel neglected to produce enough Frozen merch during 2013 and not having a good reason why they didn't do so, especially when parents were clawing at the walls for Elsa dolls.
I liked the Style Series line that Hasbro brought out, but I didn't like that they seemed to favour certain Princesses, and left out the others. For example, Ariel and Belle have 3 or 4 Style Series dolls, while Snow White, Pocahontas, Merida etc were left out.
I had the same problem. I was getting really annoyed when they kept bringing out so many Belle dolls. Belle is a nice character, but she’s not every person’s favorite. Belle doesn’t resonate with me so I never got any Style dolls.
AAAHHHH!!!!! I'm so excited!! I was never a fan of the hasbro princess dolls. I wanted the princesses to look like they did in the 90s and early 2000s. I'm thrilled they're going back to mattel. Hopefully they'll re make some of the forgotten princesses too, like Kida and Jane🤞🤞🤞
@@handsew1774True they're not in the "official" line up of princesses, but they were at point or another marketed as new disney princesses. Same as Esmerelda, Megera, Eilonwy, and even tinkerbell before they were cut from the line up. Tink because they made the whole fairies line, the others because their movies didn't do as well and were considered flops at the time so they were removed to keep the best selling ones in the line up. It's all about money.
I remember that second set of hasbro dolls, I had forgotten how horrifically whitewashed they were, I remember being in store and being shocked about what they did to jasmine 😨 I never liked the hasbro dolls, the style series was cute enough but overpriced IMO I’m optimistic about Mattel, I don’t think they could do any worse, and I think getting that extra Disney princess money and audience will help them a lot. I hope they bring back the old 90s faces but I highly doubt it lol they’ll probably be more movie accurate which is fine but the 90s faces have a sort of charm and I’d love to see a more Barbie take on the newer princesses lol
exactly. i had the fortune to get Pocahontas and Jasmine in the very fisrt wave, when they had dark skin before they whitewashed them! i was appaled!! like, i thought: "who are this girls?? why are they cosplaying as Jasmine and Pocahontas??" it was really bad and in poor taste.
Is it just me or in my country The Disney style Cinderella is only $30... is that cheap or not? And idk if it's like that for other country's The Aurora and jasmine and Rapunzel was also $20 there r more but-.
As a Middle Eastern person I can say that how Jasmine looks now is wrong. Most of us have light olive tan skin where as now her skin is much darker which is not accurate at all.
lets all agree the 90s - 2010 Disney dolls were really high quality i think there quality started to go down in 2013 btw i am so happy Mattel has the rights to make the Disney dolls i really hope the quality is good
Tbh, Hasbro sucked and they just look too cartoony. I’m tried giving them a chance but I can’t. Mattel did better than them despite the molded on clothing. I hope Mattel brings back the Belly button body and bring back the quality, also the diversity too. Put Snow White, Jasmine, Tiana, and Pocahontas in more line.
Mattel should do an entire line of Disney dolls with practical fashions inspired by that princess original outfit. Would be the coolest!!!! Then a line of them in their original outfit, glam outfit, their second alternative outfit.
@@slytheringingerwitch yes!!! 💚 I’d love to see a line of the Disney Princess in their own characters Disney bounding style. Like the comfortable look in Wreck it Ralph but and everyday look! 😇💙
To be quite honest, the molded on tops on the disney princess line will be staying forever, no matter the company that produces the dolls, as the line is aimed towards very young children. What i hope Mattel does this time is more accuracy to the face molds, so the dolls dont look like barbie cosplaying as disney princesses, and i would also would like different bodies for each princess, and why not a muscular or more toned body if they make versions of raya.
I agree 100% about the face molds and body diversity, I’d especially love more buff dolls! Luckily, I think Mattel is the right company for stuff like this, they’re behind on fashion but they’ve been great with face/body molds lately! Honestly as much as older fans hate molded tops, I agree that it’s not that big a deal. When I was a little kid I had a molded top Aurora that I LOVED because I liked that she had a built in “swimsuit” so I could play with her in water. As long as they have some higher quality options along with molded top budget dolls, I don’t think it’s a problem at all.
I feel the same way as when Mattel lost the license. The new can't be worse than the current products, and at least it will be different. I feel like Mattel is in an even worse position today regarding quality, though.
I literally KNEW you’d make a video about the hasbro vs Disney switch 😂 I hope Mattel learned their lesson about quality control and make the dolls as good quality as they were from the 2000’s, or close enough considering their recent record
I'm really intrigued by the change, it will be interesting to see what they do. I think I will miss the style series also though, out of all the dolls Hasbro have put out that line has probably been my favourite. My only complaint with that line is that they seem to favour certain princesses and leave others out.
This is random Joey but I just got my first vintage dolls in the box from the early 90's and I love them!!!!! I'm really mesmerized, the quality is way different and I think I had forgot about it. But I kinda remembered it when I opened them yesterday, it's one called Stars & Stripes, Marine Corps, it's like a military Barbie commemorating the women who joined the army and she's wearing the special occasion uniform from 1991, and Joey, the quality is just over the top, moving her arms within her jacket suit and uniform, real white gloves, short hair, and everything reminded me how HIGH QUALITY they were and why possibly our generation loved Barbies. I love my Extras and fashionistas but theres really not that "magic" that older Barbies had....... I was looking at the box and realized how dated it is, the printing and graphic effects were almost still 70's at some point!!!! I couldn't help but think, damn that didn't stopped them from making GOOD quality dolls even when technology wasn't that great !!!! Maybe that's the reason older dolls were such value, we didn't have enough technology and still they did their best effort, that's the magic, today any brand can make high quality dolls but the magic pre-tech brought is just not there !!!!! I also got one called Native American, Special edition from 1994, and I'm equally obsessed, the hair quality has been diminished for being inside a box for almost 30 years but idc!!!! Her face and 90's quality, clothes are just out of this world and it reminds me why I loved Barbies
1:14 -that is a disney princess simba doll they marked my early childhood and I also loved the mattel ones from my other half of childhood and early teenage. I missed them so much...
i do believe that, if Mattel give us articulation, it would be like the Extra dolls. and yes, i also wish they would make a "Style" line of them, wich they probably could, since they just got the license and probably would want a bigger releaze for the dolls.
Yay! Hoping that they revert back to the impeccable 90's quality with a modern twist and incorporate Made to Move ( you read my mind!) I never even entertained wasting my money on the garbage Hasbro dolls. I do love the Disney Store dolls, but they could stand to be a tad more articulated, i.e. articulated knees and ankles so that they can wear heels or flats. Molded on tops..what is THAT? This is your shot at redemption, Mattel...TAKE IT
I do like some things Hasbro has done with these dolls but there's definitely some aspects of their dolls that were quite low tier. like bad BAD. It will be interesting though!
This is pretty exciting news, I can't wait to see what Mattel does. I bought the Signature Collections dolls, and I really liked them, except the pearl finish on their skin, just not my thing. I REALLY did not like the Hasbro princess dolls, mostly because they made them all look like young girls (like 10, 11, 12 years old). They had large heads, tiny narrow shoulders, no figure (almost a boy body) and those stick straight arms down at their sides. Most of the princesses are (in the stories) teenagers or around 20, but the way most of them are drawn, they still have very curvy adult women bodies, and adult women play them in the Disney theme parks, so I think this is how they should look in doll form as well. I hope, out the gate, Mattel gives us quality for a least the first few years. I think they will, just to show Disney it was the right choice to go back to them. Right now Disney (Disney Store, Shop Disney) themselves are the only ones doing right by the princesses in the play line dolls.
I'm very thrilled about the "live action" line. Are they will do dolls about Maleficent? I know the dolls of these films are maded by Jakks pacific. They're will be a new brand of dolls? I mean, at that time, Disney doesn't wanted to add Giselle as a official Disney princess because they need to pay her actress the royalties...I don't know.
It is good news I honestly think some of the Disney dolls made by Mattel in the 90's are overrated, Especially the first 5 white princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel and Belle) weren't very accurate to the movies, while the princesses / heroines of the 90s ( Jasmine, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, Megara, Mulan and Jane) were excellent and truly accurate In the 2000s Simba was licensed for the Disney Princess dolls ONLY for the European market, for me they are beautiful and accurate to the movies Here in Italy only those were sold, from 2001 until 2009, in 2010 the Sparkling Princess line by Mattel was also distributed in Europe and I remember my disappointment at the time, because those new dolls were all focused on glitter and crowns, leaving out accuracy to films At first I found the Hasbro dolls cute, and I totally agree with you that the 2018 line with watercolor clothes is the best one made by Hasbro (in fact I have Ariel, Snow White, Aurora and Pocahontas) While the ones with the tops sculpted in plastic covered in glitter are the worst, because they are just a bad copy of the previous line of Mattel In general I HATE Hasbro dolls because their outfits are not movie accurate at all, some faces were cute, but I never liked the choice to give them this cartoonish design. So I hope that the new Mattel dolls are more proportionate and above all, ACCURATE TO THE FILMS! If they will have the exact same clothes they have in the movies I might even accept the lack of articulation, because at least they would be accurate I want Cinderella with strawberry blonde hair and the silver dress As you said, Mattel has now created more diverse dolls, so ALL the princesses will be represented this time
Yes Simba made Disney princesses dolls. I was not sure exactly when. So it was in the 2000's, good to know. I have found a gorgeous Simba Jasmine doll in a car boot sale last year, really pretty with a good outfit. It surprised me. She is one of the prettiest Jasmine I have seen.
YEA!!!! I'm over joyed that the Disney Princesses are coming back to Mattel! I never really liked the Hasbro dolls. I have most of the dolls made by Mattel and I agree with you, a Disney Princess on a made to move body is fantastic. Hopefully they will do that. Can't wait! 😃
Also for clarification disney announced in 2014 mattel would be loosing the license to hasbro and hasbro would start making the disney princess and frozen dolls in 2016 :)
We did get Jasmin and Tinana in Norway, at least the ones with moulded glittery tops. I liked that they had dolls with moulded tops, because then I could afford to get every princess...
I’m so excited to see if they make the miniature dolls. Like the Magic Kingdom series. Mattel has the magiclip series and I loved them. When Hasbro released their version they were way too cartoonish and the dresses weren’t that cute. I really hope Mattel does their version again.
This is so exciting!!!! I’ll take a budget Mattel Disney Princess doll over a Hasbro one any day! The Hasbro dolls were atrocious - absolutely terrible hair, cheap clothes....and then of course, the molded on tops. I can’t wait for the princesses to be able to share clothes and shoes with Barbie again! Yay!! 🎉🎉🎉
Mattel lost license due to Ever After High which were based on their own versions of fairytale characters... When Hasbro got rights, they went for more action type of dolls - I didn't like them either, but for example in 2017 BatB remake - Hasbro was even better than Disney Store. Mulan 2020 were good too, but Aladdin 2019 were truly trash & provided 0 sales so it was a trigger for Disney. Mattel still worked with Disney (Nutcracker, Merry Poppins Returns) its just that they weren't allowed to make princesses, since Hasbro owned that line. Im also quite happy with Mattel getting rights back.... But thing is - since 2016 - when Hasbro started making trash, its also a year when D Store produced completely new head molds (extremely movie accurate, used to this day) for princesses, and since than its always D Store which produces the best dolls. I know DS isn't available everywhere sadly, especially since Brexit & covid, but it will be very, very hard for Mattel to beat them off.
Sooo happy about this! I bought the pocahontas one and rapunzel for my daughter. Their hair is awful, it's now just a ball of some sort of fabric...doesn't even resemble hair anymore...very sad about it. So I hope hope that mattel has a good barbie quality hair (not chelsea quality hair because same issue). Loved esmeralda and ariel from mattel! My 2 favourite dolls ever!
I get the feeling that if MGA made Disney Princess dolls we’d see some amazing modern takes on the princesses. It would be like the style series from Hasbro but actually done well.
I liked the Disney Mattel dolls when they had removable outfits. I think the Disney store dolls so far are the best but their hair quality is as bad as Hasbro’s.
Kind of excited. I never liked either but I much prefer Mattel faces. Hasbro tries to elongate the head and make the forehead the biggest part, which leaves the noses elongated to making them the most notable thing to me when I look at the face. Its hard to see in pictures but I know people who have them and they really spoke me as not looking right. This is especially clear on Ariel and Cinderella. In the movie Cinderella barely even has a nose when she's forwards, just the suggestion of a nostril.
Soooo happy!! Sooo excited! I’m not upset as much as not getting the live action Disney store exclusives cause I may have a chance now! The marvel dolls are sooo pretty! I have high hopes. Not to mention little mermaid live action!!
Great video! I didnt know anything about this! From what i can ever remember is that Disney dolls werent very good in quality. The best doll Ive had it was myscene. And this was just amazing doll. But had only one of them:(
I'm excited to see Mattel do the live action princesses. Live action Jasmine definitely needs justice. Also excited for the dolls for the Tiana and Moana series'. And we collecter dolls they make. Hopefully they do some fun collections as well like the seasons collection with Aurora/Mulan/Ariel/Belle.
Hasbro dolls are like Bratz dolls. I'm glad Mattel is making Disney dolls again. I got the Enchanted doll set 2 years ago and they looked so like the actors in that film.
I think the descendant dolls were a copycat of EAH. A bad one, as the costume design was just shit. I miss eah. Such a brillant concept ! great designs and high quality clothes ! I'm certainly not looking forward the live action reboots doll. First, I don't like disney live action reboot (such a lack of creativity !). Second. the dolls were always bad with ugly heads, especially the Emma Watson doll. Only live action dolll I would like is Gisele from enchanted because it's a good film, full of soul and feminity with an original story ! But I wish they use the cartoon face instead of the real actress one because it translates so much better into dolls. And finally, I don't want current, creatively bankrupt disney to make a new enchanted film, especially since it's named disenchanted. They are going to ruin the licence.
It’s this the comeback of Jem and the Holograms? Too bad for Hasbro they just loose their only fashion doll line (MLP apparently it’s not a thing anymore) Mattel will always have Barbie, MGA has OMG and Rainbow High. If I was Hasbro I would revive Jem, they have the outrageous fashion (like Rainbow/OMG/Extra) they have the storyline and they also have the 80’s nostalgia and the rights of the music and a very diverse group. Embrace the camp, do a couple of Netflix movies, and it might work. The good thing about Mattel is that they already have a lot of skin colors, body shapes and hair textures in the Barbie, so they only need to get the face mold right.
MATTEL and Hasbro are both prettier .... But I miss the Simba toy company when they're still producing Disney princesses with movie accurate face molds in Disney princesses. The original face mold of Barbie during the early 90's and late millennium era of 2000, is stunningly beautiful almost like realistic human face mold and better hair quality made with saran, synatra hair that is so soft luxurious, thicker touch that doesn't get matted overtime. Let's continue our PRAYERS 🙏 that Mattel will continue reproducing Hunchback of Notre Dame merchandise as well since they're so colorful and stress relieving. I remember Gypsy Magic Horse and Gypsy Dancing Esmeralda
What about using pre-existing face molds with different face paints and sparkles and glitter dusting? I hope they bring back some of the aspects that made the original Disney dolls so great.
I did like the Comfy Squad dolls that Hasbro did minus some of the clothes lacking details. I have two Belles and I hope Mattel continues a modern line like that.
I was going to to buy little mermaid and sleep beauty doll from hasbro to add to my doll collection. But that Mattel got the rights. i wait when the new dolls come out . I'm happy that Mattel got rights to make the dolls .
honestly, the first wave Mattel dolls were my fav but I could never really get fully into them after they changed their proportions and i would love to see good quality Mattel disney dolls cuz i havent had a good quality one since after 2012
I am soooooo overjoyed that Mattel finally got the rights back to make Disney dolls their dolls were such nice quality in the 90's and they looked movie accurate in their clothing designs. I hated Hasbro's Disney dolls they have been atrocious in desgn quality, those plastic tops are an instant hard pass in any line! I cant believe we have to wait an entire year so sad but it will be worth the wait! I hope they do a made to move Disney comfy squad with realistic looking fabrics i would buy legit ALL OF THEM! I, a fully grown woman, will fight a child in target for them, no shame hahaha
Mattel had the rights in the USA all the Time till Hasbro took over. In Europe was a break when Simba had them. Yeah the later Disney Princess from Mattel where really cheap. And Hasbro made it not better. I mean quality wise Hasbro wa snot bad. The Dolls where sturdy and well made. Just the Design was not it. The huge Heads and tiny Bodys... Im so over it. Even the redone Dolls had still bad proportions. Thats the only good thing im looking forward to Mattel doing them again. But till they still aim them for smaller Kids we will probably still get skulpted Clothes with just Fabric Skirts. Im also concerned that Mattel is using Nylon Hair now and that all of them will have cheap dry krusty Hair. Im alos kinda shure that they maybe start out with good fashions but turn back to sculpted Clothes really quick! Mattel had some Disney Dolls made in between. Zombies, Mary Poppins and Nutcracker. Those where quite good but also aimed towards older Dollfans and Collectors. I really doubt that they make Dolls for all the Live Action Movies... I read it that why that they can make Dolls for Live Action Movies that are about to cpme out like the Little Mermaid. Beauty and the Beast and Mulan is done. Why should they make that now? Im kinda sad that they missed Encanto. Im shure that if Mattel would have made Dolls for this Movie we would get the whole Family Madrigal and not just Mirabel and Isabella. (still mad that Luisa and Antonio where only in the expensive Dollsets and not seperate aviable).
Hope they bring back that amazing 90s quality and imagination, also hope we could see Signature Collection, but similar to 90s Signatures Disney Princess dolls!
I was on a night out when I saw the news that Mattel got the license back and I was about to excitedly announce it, and then remembered that I was with normal people who do not care lol. Anyway, I really thought Jakks Pacific would get the license, since they did such a good job with the Encanto dolls. I would not want MGA to get it, since although their quality has been pretty consistently high their strength definitely lies with more stylised bodies and faces than are typically used for Disney dolls.
I agree. I think Disney Princesses or Barbie type dolls are not for MGA. Their dolls are more unrealistic and edgy. That is where their strength lies. Edgy, sexy and quite unique! lol 😄 Extra like omg! 😉
I'm actually kinda glad they went back to mattel. I mean have you SEEN the "royal shimmer" line from hasbro?! More like royal shedding. I have two royal shimmer dolls and the trashy glitter in their skirts sheds everywhere.
