I relate so hard to it feeling strange. I didn't even know my sexuality (asexual and aromantic) existed when I was younger, only realised at 20 and have only just accepted it at 24. Being out to others isn't even so much an option because my family doesn't even know my sexuality exists. But then I recently spoke to an 18-year old who was also aroace and fully out and they didn't have any struggles at all with it because visibility has increased these past few years. I'm happy the youth nowadays have it easier, but I also can't help but be kinda salty about it
@lexisnyder978

People also love to fully erase Aromantic/ Asexual people. “ You just haven’t found the right person yet” “ You just cant get any” “ You just want to feel special”. If the label isn’t Straight/ Gay people love to tell you your just confused.

@@83gemm Coming out in 1968 meant accepting one's being gay and keeping it within the gay group of friends we established. We were not public about it. We traveled within a circle of gay friends, went to the dance clubs which mostly were located in less desirable neighborhoods. There was a network of shared information as to where to go, safely, including which beaches in the summer.

@rngnv4551 22 дня назад
@@keltus_warrior6491 I have a lot of respect for your generation and previous ones then owe a lot of my self acceptance to your efforts. I want to share my experience so that you understand how some of us are so very grateful for your generation. My grandparents' generation in 1940s San Francisco had Homophile men and women in their community. My mother grew up surrounded by both men and women couples because my grandfather had broken his arm as a kid and the nurse that set in the late 1920s was actually a Lesbian. They became friends since he was a teenager and she was in her early twenties. The world opened up a little bit with true allies not figures of imagination. It allowed me to be open and honest with my family in the 1990s when I came out at the age of 8 during my first confession for communion in Church. I just wanted to be honest and real which caught my Parish Priest off guard because 8 year olds during communion usually confess to something small or trivial. My Church, Parish, Community, and Family supported me through it all with my mother being the strong person raised with understanding from her family. It is your generation and the generations that came before you that made this all possible. I hope that you read this because it's really hard now, especially after the HIV Pandemic almost cleared the board, to actually be able to express gratitude. 💓

We just wanted you to come to terms with it in your own time, and damn, it took you forever, lol. But now we can all move on and you can tell us all about your girlfriend without pretending she's "just a friend". Her sisters had been telling her for years. He's got a very good point about gay prides. I remember going to a few prides in my own country (I'm not gay) because it's a shitty country where it's not ok to be gay and I wanted to stand up for what I believe are human rights. When I moved to another country, I went to a pride there for the same reason and realised that no-one gives a shit if you're gay or not, people are just living their lives and letting others do the same. It was totally fine to be gay, it wasn't a deal at all. And I was like, yeah, that's how it should be. So I stopped going to prides. I have nothing against prides but in some places, I don't see the point having them, it's just a bunch of people in colourful clothes dancing around. Which is fine, get together, have a good time but for me, there's no meaning to it.

No. Even when some kind of equality is achieved, there are ALWAYS people who want to fight back and they will try to remove the rights lgbtq+ have obtained. Look at the abortion law in U.S. That could happen to anything people have earned. There are already people talking about overthrowing the marriage equality law (act?). The moment we lower our guard, it's when we risk losing our rights. This goes for anything, not only lgbtq rights, but also women rights, workers' rights, etc ect
@Andrei-sg7lu
@Andrei-sg7lu Месяц назад
Do you think once a marginalized group gets rights they just stay that way? Minority communities have to fight to stay visible and maintain every inch of social and legal acceptance we've fought for. We can just lay down the baton and go home. The moment that happens we will lose it all again.
@Suzanne4415
@Suzanne4415 Месяц назад
First off - I love that you went to Prides out of solidarity in a country where I'm sure it was risky to do so. Nothing I say next takes away from my respect for you for that, ok? And I get that coming from a place like that, it's gonna seem like people where you live now have pretty much zero "real problems" in terms of oppression. I'm not gonna say you're totally wrong since it's a question of perspective. Second - but I promise you you'd eventually feel different if you were living your next two decades or so as an lgbtq person there. Especially if you were, say, suddenly transformed into a trans 15 year old in one of the rougher areas or more conservative rural parts. I live in Sweden, as progressive as it gets (although we've been rolling back on trans issues in the last few years 💔), but people absolutely do get hate crimed, discriminated, and just you know looked at a little different. It's mostly a lot more lowkey than in most places on earth and for that I'm certainly grateful, but that doesn't help the people who still do have their lives ruined. But yeah, in a lot of places here it's a lot about the party, and that's great for them, but I don't go either cause I'm the person who hates parties 😂

True but at the same time, it’s not like it’s a tattoo or a cage you trap yourself in for life. In my opinion, the sooner kids internalise that their identity and the way they perceive themselves are fluid things that they’ll never stop redefining, the better. It’s not like someone’s gonna be like “welp you said you were gay at age seven so now you’re trapped like that forever, sorry but that’s the rules”. It doesn’t _have_ to be a reductive or restrictive thing, just teach the next generations that all of the rules are made up.

Seven isn’t even too young for OTHERS to know. Lol. I used to be a classroom aide and I remember after my very first day I was so conflicted because there was this one boy who I thought, oh, he’s gay. Then I instantly felt like a bigot projecting prejudice on a little kid. So I very casually said to the classroom teacher, “Hey… is it possible to know if a six-year-old-“ She immediately said, “Yes, [childs name] is gay. You can’t work in elementary and ever try to act like sexuality is a choice. You can absolutely tell.” And I generally could. They’re all adults now and I stay in touch with some (small town). I’m so happy most of them grew up comfortable enough to come out. One girl(woman now, although I’ll always see her as the little one crying on the first day of school, love her heart) just got married and she and her wife look so dang happy. Besides, I knew at 7 that I was heterosexual (although I didn’t know the word). I knew boys were cute in a way that girls weren’t to me. Why wouldn’t a homosexual kid know the same way?

A lot but nothing has really changed. This guy is one of the most overrated comedians on the circuit. Predictable act….

0:15 Kid simply has parents who are very gay-friendly... That's no coming-out, that's brainwash.
