Following Jesus' Matthew 18 instructions for how Christians, despite being sinners, can move forward in following Jesus together, Matthew 19 begins with Jesus' teaching on Marriage (vs. 1-6), Divorce (vs.7-9), and Celibacy or Staying Single (vs. 10-12).
And while Jesus refers us in this week's passage, Matthew 19:1-6, back to Genesis chapters 1 & 2 for God's intended purpose in creating marriage, what it is, and how it functions, as it images Him, Matthew refers his readers back to Matthew chapter 18 for how two Christians, despite being sinners, can stay married as they continue to move forward, following Jesus together.
