"His talent was simply out of the norm. He could simply dribble past seven or eight players but without speed - he just walked past them. For me he was sensational." (Xavi about Matt Le Tissier) Music: Tensnake - All In All
I remember a game at Highbury in the early 90s when we played Southampton. It wasn’t a goal that Le Tissier scored that sticks in my mind ... he hit this precision pass of about 50 yards which remained about a foot off the ground the whole way until it reached his teammate. There was an audible gasp from the crowd. Magnificent player.
How this man only ended his career with one England cap I will never know. One of the most phenomenaly talented English players ever. The sort of player who even as an opposition fan, you still clapped him off the pitch. A magician!
@@edmondsimon9220 There's a back story to this though; the England managers at the time were Terry Venables & Glen Hoddle, both of whom Matt had turned down club moves from Southampton to Tottenham when they both had spells in charge of Tottenham. Then when it came around to England selection they purposely left Matt out due to bitterness.
@@dazediss6629 agree but seriously I rarely seen a phenomenal English player technical elegant and class different on box to box and different on basis 'style "kick and rush" for me if he was in Spain or Italian he would succed certainly . But my question is why coach are arrogant and don't respect player on different style other than English football 🤦🤦. I born in 92 and honestly this video has made understanding le Tissier is better than current English players combined so most of them are seriously overrated
What ? one England cap only ?? I don't believe !! In my memory, he was not in english team too much times, but only one times that is make me difficult to believe ! Yes, you are right , he plays ball like as a magician !
I always thought Le Tissier was criminally underrated. Just used to score these incredible goals for fun. Imagine if he'd played for a team with better service. Not a hint of arrogance about him, no great pace or power... and yet he'd go past defenders like they weren't even there and then pull off these majestic finishes. Casual as you like. I grew up watching him play and was just in awe of his skill and how cool he was under pressure. Every time he'd score, there'd just be a feeling of "how the hell did he just do that?", always like it was nothing. Legend. Thanks for the compilation.
I was in the Milton road end through the 90s and have nothing but love for this man. Loyal to the end. Like you say he just seemed to get the ball and score for fun. Le god
@@muzikology1018 he played whole career in Saints, with all the respect for them. And not everything is trophies, but clearly you havent seen Legod playing or you wouldnt have write that bullshit.
@@MrOmareffendy I can name every single top players who never leave their club like Di Natale vardy juninho etc. And besides, modern football play differently than 90s football. Le tiss can't fill vardy's role vice versa, since they are different player, but in term of fate like being wasted by England, they are same.
For the record I am from Southampton and has watched LeTiss many times, I was watching a Maradona best 20 video and after 5 clips I thought, Matty has done better than this and came back to re-watch these again. It is amazing that some players are known worldwide (Maradona, Messi etc) and yet from a small town on the south coast of England there was Matt, who on his day could match those players (without world class players around him).
Before Maradona came to Napoli, the club barely avoided relegation. With him they won the scudetto ahead of Juventus, Milan, Inter, Lazio, Roma etc. I don't remember Le Tissier doing the same with Southampton, so no he isn't even close to Maradona. Plus, Maradona won the 86 WC with a mediocre team that relied just on him so there is a reason why he is so valued and highly regarded.
@@SuperAttitudeera Le Tissier pretty much single-handedly kept Southampton in the English top-tier league for like 15 seasons. I'm not going to say anything against Maradona, he was one of the all-time greats, but the question is was Le Tissier up there? I'd say yes. Le Tissier was the best English player of his generation (far better than Gascoigne who was the one who got all the plaudits) and not only that, he was up there with the greatest non-English talents of his generation - Rivaldo, Ronaldo (Brazilian), Baggio, Hagi, Stoichkov, Zidane etc. He was simply phenomenal. I'm not going to argue he was better than those players but he was definitely up there in terms of ability with the greatest players in what was arguably the greatest ever generation of footballers. For me he's among the top-20 players of my lifetime and is honestly the only English player I would place in that top-20.
Inutile fare paragoni osceni.
I loved the fact that he didn't look like a footballer's asshole. Not an athlete, he just knew how to play. A scorer of spectacular and sublime goals. Class. Style. Possibly my favourite English player. Congrats again on another great post.
Damn I miss the 90’s. Even seeing the advertising hoardings for Sega and Street Fighter brings back memories. Matt le Tissier had immense skill and clinical finishing. Probably one of the best penalty takers ever too. Should have had a lot more caps for England. What a waste.
Well we can console ourselves with the fact that he played with Shearer :-) Brilliant Matt Le Tissier!!!! Scored some of his best goals against us, but you can't hate him for that!
He was an absolute joy to watch every goal he scored was a contender for goal of the year 🤣 and such loyalty which is impossible to come across these days..legend
Amazing natural talent and the sweetest striker of a football you’ll ever see. What a phenomenal tally of great goals, many of them exceptional and unique.
Let me tell you a real story: I accidentally opened Tik Tok an hour before my exam, one of the first videos I saw was someone saying if you were bored search "Matt le Tisser goals", so I searched it and this video popped up. I am so amazed and shocked that was my first time and I never knew him before. What a shame When I first saw this video tears were found after it.... changed my life.
The guy was a genius, I can remember watching the Newcastle game live on sky back in 93 or 94 when ever it was and those 2 goals were just another level, jaw dropping!! infact most of his goals were like some sort of super hero! pleasure to watch and such a shame he never was given a proper chance for England
Incredible video. The Blackburn and Newcastle goals are the most talked about ones but some players are considered world class nowadays but dream of scoring a goal like any of Le Tissier's in this video.
He made scoring incredible goals look easy!Great player with a great attitude Not just on the football pitch ...A English football legend, And will never understand why he did not get more england caps!
70% of pro players can't hit a ball as well with their preferred foot as Le Tiss could with his unpreferred foot! Genius. Thanks for the entertainment Matt, watching these videos will continue to brighten people's lives for a long time.
Was reading Xavi’s biography and it said he looked up to Matt. Didn’t know who he was so that’s why I’m here but GOT DAMN. This dude reminds me of Ronaldinho….
I'm pissed when i see this video. Why do I just start knowing him now!?? So underrated. And I myself am a big fan of the sport and know a lot well of history and present time football and the players. Now, I want to use him in a game so much
Today I read that they claim Declan Rice should cost wayyyyy over 100 million pound. Declan Rice doesn't have 1 tiny toe of talent that Le God had... wonder what he would have cost back in the day. Phenomenal talent. Best wishes from the Netherlands
Do you know 47 of his 48 career penalties went in? And even the one that missed, hit the goalkeeper then the post, and trickled out. No one was more lethal from the spot.
Matty is a legend. Coming from a little Island he was a massive fish in a tiny bowl at Saints and he knew it. He just didnt give a shit because he didnt need to try. Casual and cool. So laid back he looked like he was taking the piss. He was just lethal and that right foot was one of the very best, ever, yet he could still crack in worldies with his left. Alongside his teak tough mate and minder, Franny Benali, Saints punched way above their weight in the 90's. Cheers Matty!
People can say what they want about his football abilities his so called laziness, they can try to cancel him for his pandemic opinions but THEY CAN NEVER TAKE THESE GREAT GOALS AWAY PEOPLE WILL BE WATCHING THEM IN HUNDREDS OF YEARS TIME , or maybe RU-vid and the authorities take them down but somewhere someone will have the video of these goals , Le God bless you Matt a legendary player and a voice for freedom of speech and expression
A great player. One the one hand he never won a title but on the other hand he became a true legend. It's was the right decision that he never left Southampton.
I don’t know much about soccer - never cared much - but if ever i was in a room and heard that name leTissier - I’d stop and watch and every time I did - the ball went in the net…. Always this chap. I never understood why he wasn’t a major international star… He was humble, I am told - … but that’s even a better reason to put him out there surely? An example of a hero to kids. I still don’t know why. He was the best kicker of a ball I ever saw…. Fucking genius.
Just heard him being mentioned in a discussion about best premier league players. I had to check him out. Holy shit how did I not hear about this guy? He's up there with Henry and the rest of the legends.
In the 90's, there was a show called "Petica" (literally "Fiver" - referring to top 5 European leagues) that was aired every Monday in prime time on second channel of Croatian TV. Basically, it was a football show with highlights from all matches played that week in Premiership, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga, that didn't just offer highlights from most attractive matches, but also kept emphasis on "smaller" clubs. Best Croatian players and coaches at the time were guest pundits and every example of superior skill was highly praised, no matter how "small" the club was and no matter hoe "anonimous" the player was. Thanks to this show, we discovered (among other greats of the time) Matt LeTissier, who was not that well known to non-English football fans, as Southampton rarely or never played European matches. But dear lord, what a phenomenal player he was! I can't recall a single one of his goals that wasn't brilliant, and the efortless way in which he broke defender's ankles before "removing the spider web" (Croatian slang for putting the ball into upper corner of the goal) was a thing of beauty. I will never understand why this guy never played for English national team - he was bloody brilliant and paired with another brilliant English midfielder that was Gazza, he would've been an absolute menace! This is something I miss dearly in today's football - guys like LeTissier, Dario Hübner (Brescia, Piacenza) or Martin Max (Munchen 1860), guys that didn't give a shit about fame or playing for big clubs, but kept small clubs above the surface instead, with their superiror skill and scoring ability.
One of the greatest and most underrated English players. He could win World Cup 1998 if he didn't misd the chance for playing for France. He combined all footbal characteristics of an amazing forward:dribbling, touch and technique, shoots which schocked all Britain. But playing for Southampton will never bring you to fame and a trace in the history of a football
Never an England regular - our squad in the 90's was outstanding, the level of talent was extraordinary. MLT was superb, love the music, very early 90's :)
Most gifted player I ever saw. I include Pele, Maradona, Messi and Ronaldo in that. He never reached their heights because he was a little lazy in his ability. If any of the 4 I mentioned had scored the goals he scored they'd be talked about as the greatest ever goals. Astonishing how simple he made the incredible look.
Don't think u could do things like this if he's lazy the main reason he couldn't go higher is because he had some conterversy with the manager Glenn hoddle
Donny Chan shearer and sheringham were such a proven partnership, and then Owen broke onto the scene. With Scholes also playing so well, it must have been a horrible decision to make. But I agree. Le Tissier for me is England’s best ever player. He should have gone.
Another player like Hoddle that was never given enough games for England .Wasted talent but a truly brilliant player. Some England managers have a lot to answer for.
2:59 litteraly the best goal I have ever seen in my life, I m so glad to have seen this compilation and be proud to say : Matthew Le Tissier is a brilliant footballer
He was left out of the England teams because of who the managers were at the time and the fact he'd rejected to join both of them at club level when they wanted to sign him for Tottenham. So it was basically just petty bitterness that resulted in him being left out, which arguably makes it worse.
