The chemistry between these two guys is just AMAZING and it makes me INCREDIBLY sad to know that, since Studio 60 got cancelled, they probably won't be on screen together starring on a show ever again. It is a crime against television! Or something equally overly dramatic. They really should work together again.
LOL. Poor Bradley! I love their reactions after the interviewer asks what's it like being in a role for a long time, and then he completely passed over Brad! God, do I miss those two...*sigh* It still depresses me that Studio 60 was canceled. It'll be a long time until we see such brilliance again.
I love it when actors get punchy on press tours. You get hilarious things like this. Brad has such a warm sense of humor and I love how there's an honesty there. If he finds it funny, he laughs and it's infectious. Really they're perfect together--Matthew serves them up and Brad's the perfect audience who can give it right back.
On the Kevin Pollack show Matthew revealed the real reason why S60 didn't work. He also said that by episode 5 they knew it would not go any further than one season. Matty also said that he and Bradley keep in touch but doubt they will ever work together again as he said 'it would be weird', I disagree. They have amazing chemistry, I would love to see them work together again.
Watching them systematically is a great way to experience them. I've watched the series four times thus far, it's much better than waiting week to week. Sorkin definitely intended to make something bigger, but the subject matter put those ambitions on a shaky foundation. It's a little like trying to build a skyscraper from play-doh. If it's done perfectly it might work, but it's a handicap.
It actually had higher ratings than 30 Rock, a show with a similar premise, but 30 Rock was cheaper to produce, so it stayed and Studio 60 got dropped.
They look like they're concentrating hard... like there's a lag or something. "You shook him this morning"... nice! I saw the show last night and it was tremendously enjoyable. I plan on watching weekly.
I wish this show was still on! I have no need for my TV anymore! After losing Friends, WLIIA, T7S, TWW, and then S60 there is no reason to watch anything anymore. :(
Maybe you are right and the public percieved it like that. I am sure, however, that Sorkin himself intended it to be just as "big" as The West Wing. I am now systematically watching the episodes for the first time, and the amount of times in which the Chirstian-secular disagreement is raised exposes how much Sorkin did *not* write the show as "just a show about sketch comedy".
The show really had two issues that kept it from commercial success. The first was a lack of a real... Heart. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the show, it's brilliant, own the dvd set and have watched and analyzed the unbelievably good writing multiple times... But unlike the west wing, it didn't feel like it stood for something larger than itself. But, many popular shows have little heart. The real problem was marketing. NBC BUTCHERED it. I could hardly believe how badly they promoted/scheduled it
Aparenty ShoreDude105 never saw an episode of Studio 60. It was a short lived mastepiece. The only problem with it was that it was sadly to smart for the current TV audience (Shoredude105). When it comes to TV writing, Aaron Sorkin cannot be beat.
Ah, I see cinderelephant has given a well thought out and articulate repsonse to my comments on Bradley Whitford. I guess the Left gets very emotional when someone doesn't drink the "Kool Aide" and has the audacity to criticise one of their Left Wing Icons.
I disagree, I think that like each of Sorkin's shows, Studio 60 went out of its way to stand for something larger than itself. Quality television, promotion of liberal values.
The use of capital letters was to make it clear to samonsell as to where my criticisms were directed. His assertion that they were towards the show are incorrect, they were towards BRADLEY WHITFORD. Hopefully the capital letters were emphatic enough for him to see this and realize the original point. Since pseudo is defined as false,a pseudo intellectual would be a false intellectual and therefore an insult. Think before you speak and try not to consume so much "Kool Aide". Wise Up.
This show largely lacked the ideas development so after 10th or 11th episode things got really exausted on every character. In past three days i ve watched all episodes just because of my old liking of Chandler and Josh Liman.
It definitely had elements of larger themes to it. However, a late night comedy show that focuses on the personal relationships of the characters isn't exactly a great platform for discussing liberal values (especially since it was mostly more arguing or preaching than exploring the way the West Wing did) - and defending the artistic integrity of sketch comedy isn't exactly mind-blowing. Show was amazing, but a lot of people felt the larger themes fell a bit flat.
poor ratings, the pilot got 12.5 million views or something and at the end it was averaging 4 million. If I remember correctly it was up against LOST and Heroes and big stuff like that. Also as much as love thiss show it was never as good as the west wing which I think the studio was banking on.
Cinder, the reason I defined pseudo to you was it was obvious to me that you didn't know the meaning based on your earlier comments. Contrary to what you may think, calling someone a pseudo-intellectual is an insult. If you take the time to check out a dictionary, assuming you have one and know how to use it,you'll see my definition is correct.Your angry responses are just what I would expect from a frustrated malcontent member of the Left.Ease up on the "Kool Aide",it doesn't agree with you.
Read what I said. I was glad the show was cancelled BECAUSE BRADLEY WHITFORD WAS NOW UNEMPLOYED BY THE CANCELLATION. I never watched the show, for all I know it was the best show since the inception of t.v. My comments did not critique it. I can't stand Aaron Sorkin either, you provided me with some good news,he lost out as well. Your pseudo-intellectual implications stating the current tv audience is not smart enough to appreciate this masterpiece smacks of Leftist Elitism. There's a Surprise!!
