Live from the 2013 Season of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Matthew Worth, baritone and Shai Wosner, piano performing Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe, Op. 48. Audio and Video by Matthew Snyder; Allegro Recordings
Finally a singer who can communicate without excessive arm movements! Beautiful performance! I normally favor tenors over baritones, but I love this guy's colorful voice with its nice bright timbre. I could listen to him all day long!
Perfect technique; legato phrasing, even in a language with more than its share of explosive consonants; evenness of tone throughout his incredibly wide range; convincing expression; what an exciting singer! I wish he had more recordings.
When I clicked on this, I wasn't expecting such and beautiful and heartfelt performance. I'm not quite sure of all Worth's German pronunciation, but he certainly sings the words as if they actually mean something. Bravo! This is really terrific. And the accompanist is really wonderful too. A great song cycle, greatly served.
Superb control across the range, very nice high notes, very musical. Nicely done! Interesting choice of keys as well - some in the baritone key, others (notably "Ich grolle nicht" with a high A) in the tenor key. Pianist was a great partner as well.
Listening to your "Dichterliebe", I am struck by your sensitivity to its score; also the amazing contrasts and shading that you put into your performace. Your singing harkens back to the great interpreters of Hermann Prey and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Last Sunday was also a great event for all to witness.
