Together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen the trumpeter Matthias Höfs has produced an album that brings out the brilliant sound of the trumpet in the demanding melodies of Bach's concertos.

As most instrumentalists, Matthias Höfs had to face the fact that a modern-day trumpeter can achieve far more with their modern instrument than was possible in the past. That is why Johann Sebastian Bach composed superb solo parts for Baroque trumpet, but sadly left no trumpet concertos known to us nowadays. Matthias Höfs has now remedied this situation by arranging a number of Bach's solo concertos for his instrument.

I dislike that you forgot to tell us the name of the violinist- that is respectless. She plays wonderful. I dont like also the volume of the trumpet - always too loud. I always thought Mr. Höfs could regulate the volume better. He is much too loud. The sound doesnt mix. This concert is: Höfs plays bach with an orchestra. This is no trumpet convcerto. If bach would habe intended this, he wrote a concerto for trumpet and violin.

I can understand that the violin soloist's name was not mentioned and that was criticized. The fact that the volume of the solo trumpeter is then completely wrongly criticized, is just annoying for every connoisseur. Because it is precisely here that Höfs shows empathy and a wonderful adaptation. Any quieter would be completely wrong.
