It can’t be understated how great these conversations are. They feel genuine and they make these players human. Glad to hear Matt speak openly. I’ll forever remember that Ipswich goal, my Dad fell down 3 rows of seats in the upper tier of the Dr Martens Stand celebrating. What a night. The old girl was bouncing. Cheers to you Matt.
Some great memories watching Matty when he was a West Ham player, not least that Ipswich game which I still talk about now. I remember there being a sense of expectation whenever he got the ball as he was the first wide player we'd had in a long time who would actually take a full back on and beat them.
We've all spunked money. Matty has an illness called addiction. Cunning baffling & powerful. So glad he found recovery. What a lovely man. I watched the Ipswich game with my new girlfriend who knew nothing about football. But afterwards she became a Hammer for life! Pards & Marlon she adored. Me too! Even better her brothers were all Man Utd!
How sinister that I immediately got a betting advert halfway through Matty's story of his gambling addiction. I am adverse to gambling but it must be so difficult for those battling that disease with how widespread betting is in society
We all know how good this guy was, he was an excellent player but I'm not sure I quite agree with Chris' statement at the beginning there, I wouldn't go THAT far to say that he'd be in my all time West Ham XI because in his position we've had so many top players that he just doesn't quite make the cut, I think I'd put Payet at LW but yeah no you can't not love Matty Etherington what a bloke 👏👏👏
I watched the Preston play-off game in Iraq and went mental when we won ha-ha I gave my home shirt to an Iraqi kid at the end of my tour so hopefully they carried on the support lol
