I have been watching you for the past 10 years and seeing this was a complete surprise. I can speak for all of us when we say how proud we are of what you have accomplished and what is coming for you. Congratulations, you deserved this interview more than anyone.
@@karlkoskie2891uhhh...he's been plenty critical of them,he just stays professional about it. Unlike the trolls of the internet such as yourself I presume, who think running around leaving hate comments will actually accomplish shit💀
Not just acknowledging but saying he frequently watches his videos. Imagine knowing you have a near direct connection to Todd with your praise and criticism. Matty actually speaks for the community.
MATTY TODD INTERVIEW?! Never thought I’d hear Todd say salutations on a Matty video. Glad to be a part of the Matty community since the pre Fallout 4 days as it keeps growing
for a second there i thought this was AI generated, because i never thought matty's videos ever reached Todd, but aparently they have met in real life and he really pays attention to matty's channel. i just hope they also watch the comments, because sometimes matty can be a bit softball with the questions and comments, and not everything matty says we all agree with 100%, sometimes matty spews stuff that the audience doesn't agree with and i don't want Todd or bethesda as a whole to think his reviews fully reflect the fans or the audience, because sometimes matty is kind of soft on bethesda, i understand he's a fan i get that, but it's also fanboyisim barring and that doesn't reflect everyone who watches his videos. but we all want the best from these games, we don't want them to fail. but we also don't want them to try things that would piss us off, and bethesda as a whole will often do stuff that people hate and double down on it. so i really hope they pay attention to the comments as the most critical people often say the best things that would work for their games.
This is literally one of the best interviews I've ever seen with Todd Howard, you did an amazing job bringing up important conversation points. So happy for you man!
_Not a fan of Todd. But it was strange to me when gamers and youtubers completely lost their minds at Todd Howard over Starfield rather then Bethesda. Todd Howard doesn't make any of Bethesdas games anymore. He's only a Director of sales and a spokes person for Bethesda. He doesn't have any say or direct control how any Bethesdas games are made. The only thing he has some direction of is the Fallout TV because the writers and directors wanted his input._
@@GraveYardShif7 Wait is this true ??? Todd doesn't get invole in the game making process anymore ??? . I thought he direct starfield and other game development process, he seem to knew a lot of thing compare to a person who only a Director of sales or a spokes person for Bethesda !
HOLY CRAP THIS IS HUGE! (also Todd and Matty I love you both, thank you for all you do, had a Skyrim inspired funeral for my dad because of our shared love)
And it’s actually a really good Todd Howard interview, he remained surprising professional and calm as a fan getting to talk to his Idol I’ll let u decide who I’m talking about there
This comment really takes away from the epic interview. Todd most likely chose Matty because he is most definitely one of the most objective video game critics left on RU-vid these days. The other popular RU-vidrs either come across as simps or haters, depending on how big the simp or hate trains is for the game they are reviewing at the time.
I really admire the fact that you didn't avoid uncomfortable questions and at the same time you managed to be super polite and not rude at all. You have way better professionalism than most of the videogame journalists out there.
@AlexJones0316 You're nuts. Some questions had me going damn, he went there lol. If you're just looking for someone to ask Todd "why do your games suck?", you need to start looking towards some bottom feeder content.
@AlexJones0316 I wouldn't call them softballs per se (he did ask abt the lackluster space exploration and STILL using Creation), but give an example of a/some tough ?'s you would've like Matt to have asked....
I love the fact that multiple times Todd mentioned how he watches the channel and as well kind of gave Matty the encouragement to keep voicing his opinion on things with out fear of losing out on opportunities like this because he “upset Bethesda”
the thing is as a game developer myself i have more respect for people that give critisism that is usable rather than just spout "it sucks" and i think Todd has the same. I mean the guy doesnt release a mid game because he hates making games right? he is doing his best and sometimes you hit or you mis it happens and it sucks but he wants to improve and it really shows. I mean how many studio heads besides Swen from Larian we rarely see other heads talk like these 2 do. I think its a good think Microsoft brought them into the fold. Because from what i can tell i think Bethesda was really in a financial pickle and Star field was 70% of its time in development under Zenimax still before MS bought them so yeah honestly i think The Elder Scrolls 6 will do just fine. They dont have to worry about budgets anymore and a overlord like Zenimax pressuring them
Todd: its been 12 years since the last college football game came out, i just miss it so much. Everyone else: ITS BEEN 12 YEARS SINCE WE HAVE GOTTEN A NEW ELDER SCROLLS GAME
For real I’m so ready for elder scrolls 6 I really hope they do a good job I have high hopes just hope they don’t mess it after making us wait so long lol
@@damnbouh6984 obviously but they shoulda just skipped star field and worked on elder scrolls 6 that’s what people really want and we have been patient you realize by time it comes out it would have been 3 times the gap between oblivion and Skyrim it makes since why people are getting more impatient but I do want them to take their time for it to be good but this wait is insane I just wish they skipped mid field
Honestly, shout out to Todd as well. I know the community likes to meme on him a bit, but it’s really cool he takes the time to engage with us like this. It’s a short list of AAA studios that make themselves so accessible to their fans.
If he wouldn't get memed he wouldn't be famous for what he is actually doing. He could have been a random creative director or developer sitting somewhere in a corner of a room doing his stuf silently but he decided to step in front of the audience instead also as a spokesman. If you do this you have to live and deal with the consequences, it's a natural thing. But as many people still enjoy the games Bethesda produces he certainly does a good job - if he wouldn't create value for the company as a whole he wouldn't be in business anymore since ages or BGS would have had to close the doors.
@@ReeYuuJee Haters gonna hate, still people keep playing which is the only thing that counts imho. If the company was actually that shit and has no meaningful ROI it would have been closed since ages.
@@deltak5457 What happened and the current state of SF isn't exactly "doing good". The standard of people (especially normie americans) is in the gutter. That's why UBI and EA are doing just as good. Good thing is that it's 2024 and we get a variety of ips to chose from.
@@OggieDoggie I’ve been a subscriber to Marty since around 2015. Todd I believe sent him a letter which showed that he clearly has seen Marty’s videos, he also apparently is quite knowledgeable when it comes to RU-vidrs as he when interviewed by the likes of angry Joe and others he clearly knows a decent amount of information about them. I may not like Todd’s design philosophy as much as I did in the past but I believe that he genuinely wants to make gamers happy as he himself was a gamer back in the 90s and in interviews of recent he seems to open to criticism of his past works. Granted I didn’t like the direction of starfield nor do I like the more mainstream lining of recent Bethesda games I believe he does wish to make games for players. Todd has from past interviews with devs, employees and others is well liked even if they don’t share his views on game design.
Goosebumps after that sign off. Todd, if you really are reading all these, thank you for making time to appear here with Matty as well as us in the community. Matty, congratulations man. I can only hazard a guess as to how big this is for you!
Yeah, Todd, if you are reading this, thank you so much, this is the game I have been waiting for since you said you wanted to do a space game. I love it, it’s exactly…okay, mostly what I wanted. My only complaint is that I can’t have an NPC pilot, where I just plot a course and the Pilot flys there. I seem to recall my beloved TRAVELLER was part of STARFIELD’s vibe, and yeah, it seems to me I can see where like how Skills work; how you can’t Bribe someone without a Bribery Skill. So, if it was part of the whole kit, well I want my week in Jumpspace. :) Glad you gave us back the cool space survival options, and I dig that you can actually play the game with only base Standard gear, admittedly with modding (crafting not dlc mods). So, yeah, feel good about your latest game. I am enjoying my TL-A space adventures.
Yeah I bet this was a huge thing for Mattie and probably even thought he was being pranked when he got the opportunity to go ahead with the interview. But there probably isnt a bigger Bethesda fan out there, even though he has certainly criticized Bethesda. I think even some for starfield
I bet this entire interview made Matty's entire life. Not only interviewing one of gaming's GOATS but to have him saying he's constantly watching your videos? Man that must be such an incredible feeling I'm proud of you bro
If elder scrolls 6 is released in November of 2026, it will be a 15 year time gap from Skyrim. That would be the same time gap which Daggerfall, Morrowind, Obilivion and Skyrim where released (1996 Daggerfall, Marrowind 2002, Obivion 2006, Skyrim 2011). I understand Bethesdas desire for redirecting resoures to try new things, but DAMN I sure miss the elder scrolls! Elder scrolls is the GOAT of high fantasy RPGs imo. The video game equivilant of Lord of the Rings.
Since Skyrim was released, I’ve graduated high school, joined the military, got married, had a kid, got divorced, graduated college, did my PhD, and there is still no end in sight for the next elder scrolls game. I wonder how many years it’ll be between elder scrolls 6 to 7. I’ll probably be retired and in the nursing home.
@@42smash36the opposite, the fact that he's interacting with (relatively) smaller creators and actual fans of his games means there's a chance he's listening to the criticisms we've been making and is not completely out of touch like many in the video game industry are. I wasn't fan of the direction he's taken with the last few games he's made but I still believe he and his team can make great games and this actually gives me more hope TES6 might be actually great.
@@42smash36 Matty isn’t the fanboy he was when fallout 4 dropped, he liked starfield but was also very critical. Todd accepting this interview shows he’s not afraid of someone who’s intimately involved with his work.
Hi Todd, I know you said you’d try and read all the comments but I don’t know if you’ll see this. I just wanted to say thankyou to you and the team at Bethesda. Y’all’s games got me through the lowest point of my life 2 years ago when I was having major back surgery and physical therapy and couldn’t walk for a couple of months. Being able to escape into each of the elder scrolls and fallout games and now starfield is something that is truly awesome!
Bethesda games got me through my whole life. From cancer and my fathers passing. To stroke with my mother and honestly if i did not have these amazing worlds to jump in, when mine was turned upside down, I dont know where I would be today. Tod has been my "make a wish" experiance, for years. Truly great seeing my favorite youtube creator and developer together made my week. Thank you for this.
@lif6737i feel like it’s cause when I look at Todd I see a dev that really just wants to make games people like, I don’t see a business man trying to get a quick buck like a lot of other game directors in his position. Todd is truly a special person in the industry
Great interview. Obviously Starfield wasn’t received as well as was hoped, and i wasn’t in love with the game, but this guy is responsible for some of my best gaming experiences. Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Skyrim are things i put thousands of hours into, so i feel like i owe him a lot. And he seems like a good dude too
This is my favorite Todd Howard interview that I've seen online. It's cool to have a longform interview done by someone who is A) a long-time Bethesda fan who B) is developing his own game, giving him some perspective, and C) willing to ask more or less any question and push back against half-answers. He's one of my favorite public-facing creatives in the games industry, but so many of his appearances are spent fielding questions that he's answered a thousand times before. This was refreshing. I hope he does more like this, I want to hear way more about his philosophy re: franchise management and identity in particular.
@@GabrielBaker-nj8zlno he did not. He never pushed. He only let Tod talk how much he wanted to talk about and it was nothing. as an interviewer he did a horrible job. He just asked questions, he never had the steering wheel
Just in case Todd actually reads this: When I was 10 years old, I wasn’t very well liked in school. I had just moved and I was nerdy and quiet and was getting bullied, my dad was in and out of the hospital, and my mom was really emotional. However, I had a neighbor who was in high school who kind of took me under his wing and showed me Fallout 3. There were so many days that year where I’d go over to see him right after school so I could play Fallout 3. I was so enamored with the lore and that I could do pretty much anything I could imagine. I ended up saving up enough money from various birthday and Christmas cards to buy my own PS3 and a copy of Fallout 3. For the first time, I played Fallout 3 by myself on my own character, and had the opportunity to truly immerse myself in the game. I played everyday after school until I had to go to bed. When I got to the point in the story where James dies, it was the same time in real life that my real life father died. Fallout 3 helped 11-year-old me grieve. It formed me in many ways. I’ve been a Bethesda fan ever since. From the bottom of my heart, thank you-you and everyone at Bethesda did a good turn in helping this awkward 11-year-old kid that was going through tough times. I cannot thank you enough. Your games have stuck with me and inspired so much beauty and awe in my heart.
yeah passion and love for art and creativity. look at skyblvion or skywind team all fans recreating works of art. amazing what we humans can do with a little passion
PHENOMENAL INTERVIEW. Not just softball questions; really good, thoughtful guidance for the discussion on one side. And on the other, not just a bunch of side stepping and nothing answers. Really makes you appreciate the level of experience and respect on both sides for the creators involved and the communities who show up for the content. Also interviews like this are a great reminder to something I always stress: it’s not just people who play games, but people who make games. It easy to get lost in the sauce of firing complaints at faceless corporations, but behind the dev studio logos on the games we all love are people. Awesome stuff, thank you both
Woah Matty! This is huge. As someone who’s been watching since before FO4 was even announced (back when you did random FO3 Top 10 videos), this is incredible to see.
Dear Todd Howard, If you do read these comments like you said, thank you. Thank you so much for almost two decades of excellence. Your games have filled me with a child-like sense of wonder like nothing else in existence. I know it’s not all you, so thank your team as well. All of them right down to the mail room. Game, after game, after game, you have continued to deliver the exact experience I want and have hoped for. More often than not exceeding my expectations. I haven’t had an easy life. And I won’t get too into that, but you create games that tap into my imagination in a way that no other games do. Your games make me feel like a 12 year old kid with binoculars sitting on his race car bed with a spaceship model hanging above his head. You have helped me forget my pain. You give my soul that much needed break so I can get up and fight another day. What you and your team do is really important and it impacts the world in a major way. Robert Altman knew that. And he knew you knew that. And may he rest in peace as you and your team of warriors carry on his legacy.
This must have been a dream come true for you Matty, I bet you would have never thought this would happen back in the Fallout 4 speculation days, and you did a great job with the selection of questions. Todd also answered these questions very well. I particularly enjoyed how he answered the question about criticism. I love Fallout more than anything (if we aren't counting the people in my life lol), it's great to hear him acknowledge that when people criticize their work, it is from a place of love for the franchise, and because they want it to be better. It can be harsh criticism, but knowing Todd is aware that it isn't just blind meaningless hate and instead rooted in peoples'love for Fallout makes me happy.
Tod Sayed nothing and Matty played into it. This interview was a whole lot of fuck the people we make more cash and do the same thing as we did before, with 50% more cash from them. Disingenuous of Matty to let it slide
Hello Todd. Really appreciate you taking the time to sit down with Matty and I hope this won't be your last appearance on the channel. Been loving your games for a long time, and I'm looking forward to TES6. I mean.. I have for 13 years, but I'll let you cook until the dish is done. I've tried getting into ESO several times, even partook in the network tests pre-release back in the day, but MMOs just aren't for me. Even got into card games through TESL (say hi to CVH for me), which thankfully has its servers still running despite unfortunately being no longer supported - but the Elder Scrolls magic found in the mainline games is something I really miss, and I think that rings true for a lot of people who can't get that itch scratched with the MMO or mobile games. All this to say; we do miss it. And I'll continue to be patient, there's a lot of great games to play meanwhile - but I'm looking forward to the day you can share the next chapter with us.
Okay, the voice cracks that Todd had when talking about community feedback really got me. I feel like he was about to tear up as well. Anyway, this has been a really awesome interview! Good job Matty! Years of being your subscriber really makes me proud for how far you have come, man.
@@mrman-yj3bnKeep coping dude Matty has been plenty critical of Bethesda before with Fallout 76 and Starfield but you ignore it completely. @@mrman-yj3bnFunniest part is I can tell you didn't even watch the interview because Matty asks Todd Howard questions that ARE critical of their games, going against what you're saying
@3:45 when Todd said "It's been like 11 years since they've made a sequel to that game" Yeah, Todd, we know EXACTLY what that feeling is like. lol @18:55 "People kept coming back to Skyrim" Because they haven't released a new Elder Scrolls game in 13 years lol. Obviously people won't be able to play a new game if you don't release one so if they want to play Elder Scrolls, they have to play an OLD Elder Scrolls. I've played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim a lot in the last 13 years but once you've played them for 5000 hours each, you really start to feel fulfilled and want a new Elder Scrolls game with more story, new lore and new locations. Mods are fine for that, but nothing beats an ACTUAL official entry to the main game.
I'm just sitting here with a wide smile watching this. I saw the thumbnail and heard myself say out loud "holy fucking shit!" Matty interviewing Todd was not on my 2024 bingo card, but I'm so happy it happened and I'm here for it!
Hope Todd keeps interacting with the community like this. Traditional interviews are also important, but this definitely established a deeper connection with the fans.
@@Bee_Babble that makes them free for putting things that were free before behind a paywall now? That makes them clear of putting out trash games? Don't defend obvious cash grabs, they did it before and they do it now. People should stop defending this cash grab, disguised as a game

Hearing him talk about the way things go in the studio, I am more impressed by the signs of a healthy dev team in such a large company that I pick up on. I am a developer by trade and I’m just proud that Todd is leading a team in what sounds to be a sustainable way. 10/10 would work for him, just on the grounds of management prowess and passion.

I'm so proud to see how far you've come man. Thank you for a childhood of content and being the kindest, warmest dude continously through every year. Much love Matty🙏
If im being honest. Starfield is still miles away to be as great as skyrim and fallout, but i had to acknowledge, it kinda grew on me. Hoping a future DLC/official mod to expand/further detailed the universe. Hoping more planets to get more handcrafted touch more than the procedure generated content by the DLC/mod devs as time went on. Factions get expanded with more lore, unique stuff for each factions. Im down to play again for shattered space
@@Ravix0fFourHorn Agree 100%. Speaking from a consumer standpoint, Paid games cannot depend on patches and mod to thrive. It need to be delivered fully cooked. Unless it specifically mention early access, etc.
I totally disagree. I think Starfield is a far more interesting world to play in. Skyrim has a decade head start on content. We have to compare Skyrim year one with Starfield year one and I think Starfield is a much better game. It’s also far more complex because of its size, shipbuilder et c.
As a LONG time fan of this channel, like since before FO4, and during the rumor of those days… THIS IS A MAGNUM OPUS of this channel! Huuuuuuuge props to Todd for doing this!! Can tell Matty is completely happy. Congratulations man, this is huge!
I'm very impressed with the way Todd Howard handles the criticisms. I mean, as Matty pointed out, harsh feedback is one thing, but the sometimes very personal accusations you see online would get underneath anyone's skin, but he takes it in stride. I think that's pretty classy.
Getting upset or angry online is like blood in the water. Or thrashing as you're drowning. Point is you'll sink faster or get eaten. Or both. At the same time.
You don't have the egoism as Tod. If you believe you do nothing wrong and are always right, criticism is just like ants talking when you are god. Even if you do 70% wrong
Bethesda games really cures my depression. I've been able to escape and enjoy fallout, elder scrolls and now starfield! Thanks Todd and the team for all you do. Great interview Matty!
It's not curing your depression, it's escapism that will always be there if you're not doing something about it. Curing your depression would involve targeting root causes, exercising, sleeping well, eating well, having a healthy social life, therapy, not using social media, etc. Avoiding problems by playing videogames is not a solution, it's a unhealthy coping mechanisms like using drugs.
@@AB-hi6ruSometimes the root cause of depression is the unavoidable nature of being stuck in a societal conceptual system that locks essential items behind a monetary system and you are forced to comply or suffer the consequences of modern day slavery. 16 times the LIES. Keep lying, Todd. Maybe one day someone will believe you. Also, just an FYI. The Creation Engine is old. I just wanted to let you know that. 🤓
Todd is so smooth, even the way he knows to look into the camera instead of on the screen where he would see Matty, makes it feel more like he talks directly to us. It's also really inspiring to hear his thoghts on their process and how they deal with feedback.
With all due respect, a lot of people say this and don't mean it. I've been around the content block. > "Oh, I watch all your content all the time, I love it, great to have you on the podcast today." But, you know what this is actually about. It's flattery meant to defuse and they know they very likely won't actually be challenged on that claim. Todd is a talented mind, but he's also a salesman and he knows how to work his charisma in favor of what he's selling. Even if all that comment does is soften one of Matty's questions by 5-10%, it's worth it. How many lies has Todd been caught in? Despite, people still like him. That's a superpower that Todd must be self-aware of. He doesn't want a tough interview, especially after the reception of Starfield.
Call me a fanboy all you want but the level of hate Todd Howard gets is both unwarranted and disgusting. I don't understand how anyone can hate this guy. He is a passionate developer and gamer who genuinely loves what he does and loves his fans.
Todd, if you're reading this, I just wanted to say I love and appreciate everything you do. Bethesda is my favourite studio and publisher. I've spent thousands of hours across your games, including Fallout, ES and Starfield. Your worlds are the most immersive and addictive to be in. Can't wait for Shattered Space!
As an old sales person i learned fast that the more emotions someone has, good or bad, the more invested they are on your product, the easier it is to sell to them. Bethesda Game Studios bring alot of emotions on people, it's great to hear that they have the long haul mentality, since thats what their games has become for most player (me with 3k hours on fallout 4) Keep up the good work, but damn its hard to wait for next release : )
Bethesda games inspired me and set me on track to become a game developer back in 2011, after playing Skyrim. For the past 5 years I've been a fulltime Environment artist at studios. Love this! A relaxed chat between true Gamers. Todd acknowledging Matt like that is awesome and well deserved. This is one of the best Interviews/Discussions with Todd that I have seen and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
For the three (so far) replies, Shattered Space having a similar exploration vibe to Far Harbor really exposes the “they clearly don’t care what you think either” as a direct falsehood. “Causalizing” RPGs brings more gamers into true RPGs, and would likely get some of those gamers interested in less causal RPGs. Like it or not paid mods ensures that Bethesda can put more effort into every (verified) mod, as well as ensuring that the people who want to get paid for their mods get paid. Why do some people find it so offensive that a studio who goes the extra mile to accommodate mods makes a little extra profit for the paid mods? It is an objective fact that Todd Howard (and Bethesda proper) has more far more honest than they have been dishonest!
@@pmpowalisz pretend that Bethesda puts any effort into those “verified mods”besides putting a forced price tag on them. Most Modders have had options to get paid long before Bethesda, the keyword being “option” at this point it’s just free labor dlcs, they’re not “accommodating mods” they’re just trying to find more avenues to milk revenue out of their unfinished games. The simple fact that you have to use creation club points instead of buying them outright just further shows that this is just for Bethesda to make money, not support modders. As for that last point I guess you’re probably young, but Bethesda have been lying about their games since morrowind which is hilarious because that’s when they were still good, they’re just pathological liars. Even if shattered space is a good dlc it should just be a part of the main game seems like they just knew they could cut out the house varuhn content from the main game and sell it back as dlc later.
Todd said SALUTATIONS!!! haha Matty you must have been so hyped to get this interview. Channel growth will be very good just from this interview alone I'm sure
No Matty, they don't need to charge for expansions in Fallout 76. Fallout 1st is over 100 dollars for a year sub. Battle passes and atomic shop should easily be covering any development costs. No Man's Sky doesn't come close to what FO76 has for microtransactions and they are doing free major updates. I am tired of getting railed for every penny I have. It's not even a F2P game, you still have to buy it to play it. Paid expansions, microtransactions, monthly subscriptions, and battle passes? Like damn.
Fantastic video, Matty! A big shout out to Todd for coming on here. His passion for these franchises is clearly evident. You can tell how much he embraces his role as a caretaker for these massive IPs. My biggest suggestion would be having the folks at Bethesda really lean into game preservation and modernizing their games, and welcoming newer players to the classics. Games like Fallout 3, Oblivion, and New Vegas are in desperate need for a remaster and remake. As part of being a steward for these franchises, I'd love to see more resources invested in keeping these games relevant. Fallout 76 and ESO are great, but the reality is a lot of people are just always going to gravitate towards the traditional Bethesda SP experience. Also, shout out for the success of the Fallout TV show! Love the collaboration with Jonathan Nolan! Bravo.
1. As someone who has watched Matty for over 10 years now, this is incredible, and I'm so happy and proud for him. 2. Hot Dang his interviewing technique is brilliant, well delivered, relaxes his interviewees without serving too many softball, as well as brilliantly paced. Excellent interview. Kudos Matty, you earnt this.
Awesome. I am 30 hours away from 5k hours spent in the Fallout 4 universe, most hours I have ever played in any single game including some favorite MMO's of the past. I am an old dude, turn 54 this year and when I finally fade away I will go with a controller, keyboard and mouse in my hands. I have been gaming since Pong in the late 70's. Seen a lot of changes in gaming over the years from video arcades to PC's to consoles. I have learned how to use the CK with my own Sim Settlements 2 plot mod, and made my first Starfield mod not but 2 days ago. Call me odd, weird or whatever I don't care, but my take on Bethesda games. I am retired disabled vet and their games allow me to do stuff I just don't get to do anymore. Yes there are things that totally are not in the scope or reality, but when you can't actually do normal things sometimes, being that character and doing things people take for granted, that is fun for me. At the end of the day, they are universes to get immersed in, live in while you let your real world troubles slip away for a couple hours. This is why people are so passionate with accolades and criticisms. the Fallout universe just happens to be my favorite, though Starfield is running a very close, almost neck and neck 2ond place. The exploration was a bit of a disappointment, but these last few updates to me were big steps in the right direction. I have been saying since launch SF need vehicles, glad to see they are coming. That will add a completely different aspect to exploring.
Wow, having been here since the survivor 2299 days this really feels like a full circle moment for Matty. Awesome to see you get to interview and be acknowledged by one of the greats of the industry. Much love!
Let's be fair. Cyberpunk came out in 2020. It's launch was horrible. The bugs were so ridiculous you barely could play the game. Players compare the two and forget that. It has come a long way since then (I play Cyberpunk along side Starfield). I understand the comparison. You think that the city content should have more depth. Starfield is more than just a city. BGS could create content for Starfield for years to come. Starfield has the potential, content creation wise, to outlast Skyrim.
@@peteywheatstraw8760 The critical difference is the quality of the writing. I could tolerate an empty Night City because the content you did come across was well-written and immersive. Not so for Starfield. As a result, I suspect there is less interest among modders than there might have been for a more compelling game world like Fallout or Elder Scrolls. I could be wrong, but it's been a concern of mine.
@curlzncrush True... but it's not as bad as players (or basically streamers) are saying it is. There are multiple side missions that are very well written. The NPC dialog is not as expansive as Cyberpunk nor the NPC facial expressions. But for me, those are not the deciding factors. It's the game as a whole. For instance, I played Baldur's Gate 3. The NPC dialog and graphic design is top class, but the combat, for me, is ass.
While talkin about complaints from the gamers about pay walls on missions and costumes, he kinda slipped up. "Hey we haw a cool spacesuit, outfit, or weapon...how do we se....get that out". In his initial thinking it was how do we sell it. 45:16
Thanks for standing up for creation engine Matty. Seems like almost everyone wants the things that are special and unique about BGS games to be replaced with UE because they think it's going to solve all the problems, which don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a UE game every now and then but I also enjoy what creation engine does that UE doesn't and I am completely okay with there being different flavours of game engines out there. I just wish more people understood what that actually means.
1000 times this. I say it every time some youtube section just goes in on Creation Engine because they dont understand it, and game design in general. There are pros and cons and trade offs for everything.
its great a engine 😂😂, after this many years games are plagued by instability. They need to stop pretending that it doesn't have problems and start taking all the fixes the community have and try to implement them into their engine and games. This is the same problem Minecraft has, the community has done a lot for the game and expanded what's possible but the devs and more likely the executives fail to notice that the game is rotting but because they can exploit fanboys and their wallets they could care less.
@@ramoraidyou're giving a mixed argument. Each game comes with a massive engine overhaul. So it's not as if they're leaving it to the community to fix. Heck, Starfield was the most polished a Bethesda game has ever been at launch (not saying it's perfect because the creation engine is not the most stable). But the fact that the community can step in and make it even better is because it's the creation engine. It wouldn't be that easy if they switched to Unreal. So again, your argument against creation engine is also an argument for the engine 😂😂
If you ditch creation engine then probably 70 percent of the best mods can't even be achieved anymore, and you lose things like NPC/Object location/status tracking as well as the frankly insane Havoc physics (which plus the zero gravity in starfield is a pretty cool combination) Something else I've noticed is how easy it is to add new outfits and apparel add ons into Starfield compared to Cyberpunk 2077. The support for modding is so drastically different and creation engine is literally built for this, it works near flawlessly. Not a dig on Cyberpunk as I love that game, just comparing the engines and what they specialize in. They shouldn't ditch Creation Engine but they should continue to improve it particularly for optimization and world streaming to reduce on load screens
I was super glad Matty brought that topic up and he's absolutely right. Switching to something like Unreal Engine is a bad bandaid solution that will also just delay any more game releases and ditch systems they've been working on for years
Great interview Matty, very happy and proud for you. You asked very great questions. I was very happy that you asked Todd how he and his team were doing. I get very concerned over the amount of over-the-top insults that are levied against them. We can have our preferences and critiques, but the ridiculous amount of misinformation or outright disrespect had me sad for him and his team. As he said and the same goes to you, musicians, actors, directors, content creators, etc., you put years into your craft. Many of us need to remember that, fall back and realize we're speaking with or about real humans with families. Just very glad you were able to check in on the morale, mental and emotional wellbeing. Got to take care of each other our legends like Todd as well.
I appreciate you so much! Thanks for creating the best gaming experiences of our lifetimes. I vacation in Skyrim to this day. You get music, atmosphere, and gameplayloop masterfully.
@@georgie9303I literally got “Soon the Great Journey shall begin. But when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet. And you shall be left behind” vibes from your comment 😂😂😂
