Drew Atkinson is back on the podcast to talk about one of his real specialties...hunting scrapes and scrape lines throughout the season! Drew actually tagged a nice buck a day or two after we recorded this podcast using these tactics. Subjects include:
What a scrape line can tell you about a buck
A good scrape line vs a bad scrape line
The time to target a scrape line vs a community scrape
Using scents such as buck urine or doe estrous

New to the channel and new to the southern way of hunting. It's been a very interesting, exciting, and awakening learning experience since I've moved to the south. Number one tip that works for me that Drew mentioned is Just get out and go scout. Be out there as much as possible.

Glad y'all had Drew back on! I had good success on scrapes last year but had a difficult time putting the pieces together on how they played in with the terrain.

In 30 years of hunting ive only seen a buck work a scrape once! 99 percent at night!

This comment illustrates the human condition perfectly. He has hunted for thirty years and only seen a buck work a scrape once. Therefore he hypothesizes in his mind that 99% of scraping occurs at night, accepts this as fact and proclaims it as some grandiose prohpetic revelation on social media. Never even considers any other explanation, specially that he may not be as good a hunter as he thinks he is. I once watched six bucks work a scrape in one morning hunt. I witness and film daylight scraping nearly every trip out in the early season. Everyone thinks they can just go out there and its gonna be like turning on the Drury channel. When they dont see what they want they formulate a million reasons why, never considering the possibility that they might just suck at hunting. Respect your quarry. To 90% of people hunting is just a seasonal hobby. To 100% of deer survival is a way of life.

I can honestly say that experimenting with mock scrapes in the right location, has totally changed my hunting game.

I want to buy into his ideas on moon times but looking now at my best trail cam pics from this year and at the website's times I don't see anything that lines up. I've tried this in years past too and just don't see it.

Last weekend episode with Stewart Keen has examples of these bowls and so does the Facebook post on his episode on The Southern Outdoorsmen page.

I love his negative terrain comment at 26:35. Josh is the man! I first found him on the hunting beast. He's helped me so much over the years.
