Heading to Maui in August of 2019. Have fished Ascension Bay Mx, Cabo, Bahamasn and Belize. Is it worth bringing a rod and working for bones and possibly species of trevally? If so, where do you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Yes, definitely worth it. Id recommend bringing a 9wt. The bones here get to an average 8-10lbs. If youd like there's a fly charter with capt. Jon Jon tabon. Or you could just wing it on your own and try your luck. Id meet up if possible but I ain't no guide. I can spot the fish for you no problem. The catching part... Thats a different story 😂
@@Maui_hilux I'm in - I'll bring an 8wt and a bit of finesse with me. :) I'd be happy to meet up - just let me know the best way to reach out. Tight lines!
Message me a week before you fly here and ill see if I can meet up. I'm not sure where I'll be working or if I'll be working at the time, it all depends. This is my email you can contact me Kawela_silva@yahoo.com
Hey There! I am visiting That area in about a month and was looking to cast a line. Wondering what type of line/leader set up you use when going after these guys. Any thoughts are much appreciated!
Will be out there in August later this year and would love to meet up to fish if you got any time! Years ago I was whipping the surf around Kaanapali and caught a little Lai. Another trip my wife and I hit one of the beaches south of Lahaina I think and caught a few small papio and other reef fish haha. Would love to hunt for bonefish too though - I have an 8wt rod.
hello. I am heading to Maui and will be trying to fly fish for some bones. I am looking for some info on where to go. Is this something you could provide. I am staying at Lahaina but will have a car to travel.thanks
Andrew Gutierrez sorry, I been busy with work and lot and RU-vid doesn't notify me about comments. I know it's too late but the next time you guys come to Maui hit me up again
I usually go with a crazy charlie, gotcha or amantis fly. The chase is endless with these big bonefish so be prepared if the bite isn't on, maybe try different flies. We dont have much seaweed to get tangled in but the dead coral grounds can be a pain. Right now the south end of the islands will be seeing more waves during summer so play the wind and waves right. Check your weather forecasts to determine where looks good to try your luck the next day
@@chenglo8999 sorry I been busy. Right now is actually hard to choose. Being that there is a big swell on the south the spots along kihei will be against your odds. The trades are back so the north shore isnt to great to cast. How long will you be here on Maui for?
