I remember an interview with Maurice André on French TV where he explained that every year for his concerts, he travelled the distance from the earth to the moon, back and forth, and that sometimes it was very difficult. Maurice André was not a man to boast. Sometimes he would have to play in Helsinki where it was minus 40°C and the next day in Rome at plus 30°C, which exhausts the body. Herbert von Karajan had offered him the direction of the Berlin Philharmoniker, which would have been more beneficial for his health, but he refused. He didn't want to interrupt his career as a soloist. When he died in 2012, he was 79.
