Suicide is such a taboo subject...so it makes me glad that you both had the courage to speak out about it. My older brother died by suicide on Dec 1, 1980 and there isn't a day that has passed where I have not thought of him. He jumped from the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. They never found his body. The pain and sorrow of him never being found never goes away. His wife was pregnant with their first child when he died. I helped bring her into the world. Doing that helped me with some of the grief but I don't think it will ever fully go away. My brother was a member of Mensa and served in the Navy and the Coast Guard. He seemingly had everything to live for. But there obviously were demons none of us in our family knew were there. This is a big reason why I am such an advocate for mental health. This is why your interviews are such a blessing for so many people Maurice. Thank you again for all your hard work and having these sometimes difficult conversations. 💌
Thank you for responding. It has taken decades and therapy to heal but I am actually grateful for that because it has allowed me to talk about it and maybe help others to know they are not alone...
Loved your interview so much love Cheryl she is so great Mo you always know how to pull things out of people! I love all the talk on GH too, I’ve been watching since 1976! And I’m one who loved the Mike story line too! I never comment on these things but wanted to let you know that some of us did like the Mike and Nina story line, I like Nina!
This is the the one episode that literally blew my mind. So much truth about mental illness and suicide . As hard as it is for the family, spouse, partner, friend’s, you truly can’t understand unless you are going through it. We are literally living through a nightmare, and no matter how hard it is, no matter what anyone say’s, if we do it, its to make the pain stop, not because we don’t love ourselves, or families, it’s to stop the invisible pain. Medicine only goes so far, the rest is up to us . So besides trying to get through a day, remember we are also trying to deal with our mind’s! Thank you for doing this.
This is a wonderful conversation and I can relate with my husband 's struggle with mental illness and his death. This was a 38 year struggle in our 43 years together. Thank you.
I love Sheryl, she’s funny, talented, beautiful, her being this open with Maurice, who just make everyone on his show comfortable, makes me love her even more.. thanks Sheryl for sharing ❤️❤️ blessings and love Maurice ❤️👏🏽
This was so good!!!! The two of you were so open. This interview had such heart, from both of you. I have loved State of Mind from the beginning, this was your best conversation. Thank you and Cheryl for this...I do hope there will be a part 2!!!
I just watched this interview a year late and I’m blown away by the honesty. The best interview I’ve ever watched about mental illness and human nature. Thank You 🙏🏼
I agree with so much of what was said in this interview… especially that everyone needs a SONNY in their lives…. And that sadly, class is a thing of the past!! We need it back!!
This episode touched me in so many ways. My former husband was bipolar. I can relate to Sheryl’s journey navigating that relationship. Maurice you never disappoint! Thank you for blessing us with the much needed conversation.
This has been one of my favorite episodes. They were both so transparent, and real. When Maurice was speaking on walking around the tree contemplating suicide, I felt his pain. When Cheryl was speaking on going through her husband’s suicide and looking at his behavior in hindsight, I felt her pain as well. Thank you MB for pointing out to her, that she could not have prevented his suicide. Thank you both for a great episode.
Seriously Maurice this is the best show to watch on line. Thank you for having the courage to do this.... WE LOVE IT & WE ALL LOVE YOU TOO!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
I'm absolutely speechless on this one. The openness and honesty needs to continue. I lost someone to suicide and hearing what yall were saying truly helped so much more then any words could say so truly thank you once again.
I somehow happened upon State of Mind today and love it! Thank you for finding people who tell authentic life stories that help us heal. Cheryl was wonderful! This just makes me love Maurice more and will forever endear him and Sonny to me!
Maurice, thank you for being such a transparent man. You are brilliant on tv, but you are a REAL MAN. A real man is transparent like this. You are helping so many people. You can flawed and yet so influential. Thank you. You are a brilliant person! Much love sir .
Such an absolutely amazing, openly honest conversation. I can’t really call it an interview, as for me most interviews have a cold distance about them. This was complete warmth. I learned so much about Sheryl that I never knew. I am looking forward to Part II and the early GH days for Sonny’s character and Maurice.
I absolutely loved this episode. I've been a die hard fan of Maurice Bernaud but had no idea Sheryl experienced so much trauma. Keep bringing awareness to these issues Maurice. Thanks to both of you!
This was beautiful a real honest conversation between two people who have gone through some things, I just want to thank Sheryl and Maurice for their raw honesty and emotion. This will help me be more authentic.
I didn't know much about this side of Sheryl but I always loved her stand-up. This has made me love her as a real person if you know what I mean and I can't wait until part 2
What an EXCELLENT episode is State of Mind! When you were talking about everyone needing a Sonny....spot ON! That's what I miss about my Dad. I miss him being my protector, I miss his humor AND...as you said...his class. Wonderful show today! BTW...I am a fan who liked Mike and appreciate how you are allowing Mike to show up on subtle ways while you are playing Sonny.
Maurice you and Sheryl are incredible individuals! This show was amazing, informative, touching, funny..all of it! So called" Big Name Stars" should be in line to get on this show, because of the sheer rawness of life. There is no pretending and we love it! You are helping so many people, my GOD! I pray nothing but continue success.
There are no words. Thank you. Sheryl went to places where I have been and it resonated do much. Can't wait for the next show. Love and light Maurice. You are so special.👵🕯️🕊️🍫🍫🍫🍵
Thank you both for sharing your stories. Mr. Benard I really love you as Sonny but I also liked Mike. I think there is so much that could happen in the show. Looking forward to it.
Very captivating state of mind this Sunday but you never cease to amaze me Maurice! I absolutely love the work you are doing to spread the word about mental health ❤️
Absolutely amazing! I had a Sonny in my life who sadly passed away from diabetes. I always told him that he was my brother from another Mother. A former Navy Seal who became a massage therapist to try to make up for all the killing he did. He was the best 🥰
This was absolutely my favorite one! I haven’t spent a lot of time getting to know Sheryl on “The Talk”, but this was unbelievably real! She always has the most beautiful smile on her face, you would never know how tragic her past was. Having said that, it’s amazing how calm and soothing it is to hear her talk. She definitely has a strong spiritual side. I can’t wait for a part 2!
I have watched State Of Mind since it started on RU-vid... each interview has been awesome, this has been the best yet. When Sheryl talked about the death of her husband, I was in tears. My husband passed away ten years ago from heart failure and that was the start of my depression. Thanks Maurice and Sheryl for sharing so openly.
This was such a great conversation. I am touched, impressed and grateful that I listened. I've followed both of you for many many years and I wish you both continued success and blessings. Thank you for sharing your stories.'
That is so true some of the most loyal and appreciative fans are not on social media a lot or making comments. We understand that you’re playing a role and value the person as well as the character you play.
This episode was so amazing!!! This was something I just didn’t want to stop. The truth and seeing people being real is what makes it great and helps all at the same time. ❤️
My gosh, I watched the interview on Oprah!!!! BUT...even for women this was an important & helpful conversation for anyone who has suffered suicidal thoughts!!!!
So sorry about Sheryl's husband, my uncle committed suicide. I've had family members with mental illness and I have anxiety, it's hard. Thank you so much for all you do Maurice to bring awareness to Mental health.
Absolutely love this episode. Love you Maurice. I have been watching GH since I was a kid with my Aunts. Thank you Sheryl for your honesty and transparency. Can't wait to see part 2.
thank you for talking on mental health i have 2 sons with bipolar this video was the best I've seen I've watch you both for years love you you both thanks again
I love how ur creativity mimics life and is truly believable. That is a gift from GOD. U could carry and uplift deeper stories. Please do so. U will be loved forever for all u do, because ur loved by the father of it ALL!
Amazing!!!! And for the record, I Loved the Mike & Nina storyline! Yes, it may have dragged on a little too long, but it’s brought out an even softer side to Sonny, than we’ve ever been allowed to see before, and show us what a truly extraordinary actor Maurice really is! As if we didn’t already know it!
Mo. Thank you for your honesty, for showing your pain to the world. You just can't know what it means for those of us watching you, to see your brutal self honesty. So many of us live lives of quiet desperation, unable to express our self directed anger, depression, and pain, quite honestly not even knowing how to lable it let alone how to release it. Your incredible strength shows thru in everything you do, but it's your amazing heart that everyone feels. Bless you, and keep seeing that tomorrow brings possibility, not just pain. Since this was filmed, your father passed away, much love and my condolences to you and your family. Please know you're held in the hearts of so many.
What a great, open interview. So much to process. How nice it is to hear from someone relatable when it comes to generally attracting the "Sonys" in the world. I have learned hard lessons along the way and set some boundaries, but am grateful for the different people I have crossed paths with in life. Thank you!
Such an amazing interview and discussion. So many points hit so well. I loved this so much! Sheryl is amazing with her insight and honesty re her life. Thank you both and please do another one together SOON!!! State of Mind has given you an amazing life purpose as you help so many people, Maurice. 💜🌸💜
WOW!!!! Thanks for ur brutal honesty!!!!! U two were AWESOME together!!!!!!! Maurice Benard your brutal honesty blows me away!!!!!! BUT thank you!!!!!!
OMGG! Thank you so much! I lived, loved loved this episode. This episode was so deep . Beyond deep! I've learned so much. So many feelings came up and I teared up as well! The chemistry between you two is so great!!! There definitely has to be a part two! Maurice, even though at the beginning of your scenes as Mike, I was missing Sonny. As time went on , I appreciated you more as an actor, and your need to not be so intense and just be more lighthearted! I love the still tough, but softer Sonny now. Yes, I too want a Sonny in my life! When I watch now, I see you more Maurice! We as fans are truly blessed to watch you! Miss Sheryl, I too appreciate you more as I understand you more. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us! God bless you both and again thank you!
Man I love this,.. you really help me, cause we all are just human and go through things, you help us talk through it and that to me is the first step in the right direction to healing,.. I so love her ❤️
