Maurice Lennon plays his most famous composition, "If Ever You Were Mine," at the Galway Arms Sunday Session. Accompanied by Dennis Cahill on guitar, John Williams on button accordion, and a host of session regulars including Pat Quinn and Steve Martin (banjos), Ian King and Katie Grennan (fiddles) and Aislinn Gagliardi (harp).

Yank here. This was our wedding dance song in 2001. Fast forward to 2022 and we were vacationing in Ireland and spending an evening in a Tipperary pub and out of nowhere the local musicians struck up this song. We were so caught off guard that I had to remind/convince my wife this was “our wedding song!” Lol. Needless to say, after reminding her, she granted me a dance. Just a lovely melody that forever holds a special moment for me and, hopefully, my wife. 😊

Until last month I'd never heard of Maurice Lennon. But then we had the unexpected great luck to hear him play last month in Brogan's Bar in Ennis, County Clare. His playing was nothing short of magical. Around midnight, after the music stopped, we spent some time talking with him and praised his music. He was such a humble man and appeared embarrassed with the compliments. It wasn't until we got back home to the states that we found out who he was. It was a night we'll never forget. Michael S I met this man yesterday.I am a taxi driver and had the pleasure of transporting him around Dublin.He left a lasting impression on me as a human being.His musical ability is simply a bonus.An indelible mark left on my soul from this man.Thank you Maurice!!!!

Christina O'Shaughnessy Oh my yes. We just got to hear them again in Chicago recently. They are exquisite playing together--it's like each of them knows what the other is going to do, and everything they do is about the music. Absolutely amazing, beautiful stuff--always a great gift!

What a wonderful Christmas message you have posted here ,this is indeed an incredible performance and an amazing tune ,I could not wish for a nicer Christmas present than this . I totally agree with you that this is the best version of this tune that I have heard

Christina, maybe you were thinking of the cover of this on Natalie McMaster's album (The Collection). She's a Cape Breton fiddler. This has also been recorded by Cherish the Ladies and Scythian, among others. Maurice wrote it when he was about 19.

Christina O'Shaughnessy mbe11153 adressed this, above, but I wanted to reply directly in case you didn't see it because you weren't tagged. Yes, Natalie McMaster's, Cherish the Ladies, and Scythian have all recorded the tune. They all got it from Maurice, who wrote it when he was 19. If you want to check where Natalie got it from, go to her website, click on sheet music, and find the sheet music from "Fit as a Fiddle." There, you can see she credits Maurice Lennon as the composer. Cheers!
