I saw Pollini play this program at Berkeley, in the late seventies. He was young then, and striking. When he finished playing 109, something happened that I have only witnessed once or twice again elsewhere: the audience, spellbound, was quiet. Complete silence. Amazing. Only after that silence was everyone able to stand up and applaud.

Your legacy will last forever Pollini. I never got to see you alive, but I'll always listen to your recordings. I'm deeply affected by your death. Hope you find peace and meet Chopin, Beethoven and other composers that you interpreted for us.

Thank you for uploading this beautiful music. I listened to M.Pollini's Chopin when I was 12,1978 in my elder sister's room accidently on LP player while she was out. At that time, I couldn't even read English, and nothing knew about Pollini and any Classical music. However, I was crying. It had been the beginning to listen to classical music since then.

@mariaquaranta1190
@mariaquaranta1190 5 лет назад

It sounds like Arthur Rubinstein was right when he said, “that boy can play piano better than any of us’” on the 6th Chopin International Piano Competition Jury. The ‘kid’ has come a long ways, and we are blessed to have access to his artistic talents. Maestro Pollini is 4 years older than my mom, and it is amazing to me and a great pleasure to be able to see the winner of the 6th International Chopin Competition. OMG’oodness, those triplets at 58:21, then the trills at 58:50 Pshwew - OMG absolutely exquisite! 🙏🏼✌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼

He is considered to be one of the finest interpreters of Chopin's music. I think that is completely far from being true but when it comes to Beethoven he definitely stands on the top with few other pianists. Complete understanding of the structure and the tempos of all of the sonatas, clear intentions, spirit. Pollini has everything when it comes to Beethoven.

At that time I couldn’t understand why he wanted to play Beethoven at a faster tempo than accustomed then. But now it all makes sense with the revival of the fortepiano which naturally requires a faster tempo.
