Aside from the obvious comment that this is a sensational performance, respect to the recording technicians! - for a live recorded performance from this era, the sound is excellent if you listen with good headphones.

Che documento. Un artista immenso, inarrivabile, ritratto in una serata di grazia di quelli che per qualcuno (non saprei se anche per me, a me ha dato ininterrotte emozioni dal 1972 a oggi) sono i suoi anni migliori. Sto ascoltando la 960, una lettura lirica, vibrante e insieme di intima drammaticità. Non c'è una nota fuori posto che sia una. Quasi un miracolo. Quanti ne abbiamo sentiti, di grandi pianisti. Ci sono altre possibili interpretazioni di questo capolavoro, certo, ma in ogni caso si può arrivare solo fin qui. Oltre è impossibile.
Pollini, una cosa è certa... rimarrà un pilastro solitario ed irraggiungibile del pianismo del Novecento, per chi lo ha amato e per chi non lo ha amato. Grazie per questo contributo! Strepitoso... bisogna aver provato a sedersi e suonarli 'sti pezzi per capire la distanza astrale fra una per ottima esecuzione e la qualità di questo concerto...
THANKS for the upload, Jun. A wonderful treat for admirers of Pollini. And it sounds better than some of the disappointing DG recordings made of him in the 1970s (the '74 Schubert recital, for example, or the 1975 Chopin preludes). I think he was the most accomplished pianist in the world in the 70s through to the late 80s. Saw him 4 or 5 times in recital at the RFH the second half of the 80s. Virtually faultless playing of very challenging repertoire every time. One last thing: Japanese audiences are SO much quieter than Western audiences. I respect then for that.

Ah, those were the good old golden times before the loooong, slow decline both of his technical and musical means. That decline began way earlier than it usually begins with pianists. Sigh... Luckily we have these recordings from the sixties, seventies and eighties - the live ones usually being way more intense than those made in studio.
