THIS STORY:
Miles Cemetery started as a settler’s dream and became a burial ground for some of The United States’ first patriots. Stephen Miles was a rich landowner in Monroe County in the 1800’s and chose Eagle Cliff in Waterloo to build a mausoleum for his family.
The cliff overlooks a beautiful part of the Mississippi River bottom that was largely owned by Miles at the time. But in the 1900’s, long after his death, his plans for his family’s final resting place were derailed.

_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Likewise hair, although I had a ridiculous mental image of what it would be like if the bit about the hair growing after death were true, with an idea of basically keeping the dead around to farm them for hair.

it is forthrightly illegal to destroy a cemetery to build homes onto it. the process involves applying for a very special grant from the government; application to REMOVE and reinter graves; and even then 9 times out of ten the application is refused as it always is referred to local committees. your claim is without merit im afraid.

It doesn't seem too hard to take American Native burial grounds no matter what has been said and build over them. You can get by with anything if enough money is involved... hope the folks that destroyed those bodies are haunted fot the rest of their lives and followed to the hereafter and never get peace.. Satanist use these rituals to call up demons to do their bidding.. and they think that demon will just dissappear once they get what the demon was used for. Its harder to send a demon back than conjur it up. The demon might like its freedom to dominate this plane and fight hard to stay inthat case I pity the person that brought them into exsistence. .

I remember the exact moment that I decided that I wanted to be cremated. I was a kid driving thru San Bernardino with my dad and was horrified when I saw men digging up old coffins not caskets and placing one almost upright leaning against a brick wall. They were digging it up to prepare the land for a new building. It was at that moment that I realized not everyone who is laid to rest is there forever. I don’t want to be a burden for my family members in the future either. ❤️

Sadly my 4th Great Grandmothers grave was desecrated during the 1960s. She was one of the 1st colony to Texas, with her mother, and step father. She was buried on property her, and her husband once owned, the cemetery had family members, and others interred there also. The cemetery was in horrible shape, stones broken, poison Ivy, briers covered it. Two cousins of mine went in, and worked very hard with help from volunteers, cleaned, put stones back together, etc. It took a couple of years doing this, but now looking nice, and is now is a historical site.

Most Satanists never desecrate graves! Almost all people desecrating graves turned out to be wannabe teenager "Satanists". Happy Fathers Day to Mr. Miles. My heart goes out to his spirit. I can't fathom the atrocities that occurred in that lovely cemetery. I can only hope that each and every one of the vandals and grave robbers were haunted throughout their lives and met with a reckoning when they passed this mortal coil.

Wow, what a story, though built for eternity lasted but a few short years, shows times change quickly. Found your channel yesterday, it somehow popped up on my feed. Love it! and have binged watched. I love visiting cemeteries. When I traveled to England I wanted to visit a graveyard near my hosts place. He thought I was real weird. It was beautiful, particularly the graves of local gypsies. Not many old graves where I live. Keep up the good work, greetings from Australia 🇦🇺

I've read that as the body decays and desiccates that the skin begins to shrink and lose moisture as it does so it appears that hair and finger nails are growing. That being said let's discuss the story around how he accrued all that land? If he got it through nefarious purposes then I have no sympathy for what eventually befell him. You see things have a way of balancing out. I will however also say that it is not a good act regardless to desecrate the mortal remains period. The graffiti looks a bit more modern than the 60's though. You would think they someone might see a fire big enough to burn many bodies to ash. The temperatures need to reach well above 1000° f to burn bone to ash. So I'm sure there was quite a nasty mess left there for others to clean up.
@brandyjean7015
@brandyjean7015 2 года назад
My 1st thought had been if his nefarious land grabbing, led to ill will even generations later. The story told makes it seem more likely to be repeated acts of simple abuse & desecration. That is a shame.

1000° ? That was not a crematorium. That was a ritual. I'm pretty sure they didn't really want ashes. Most likely some gasoline is all that they needed and wanted.

Such a beautiful place with such a sad past. I don't understand why people would do such vile, cruel things to the deceased. I grew up near a cemetery in Urbana, Ohio where a similar situation had happened in the 50s through the late 60s. A mausoleum fell into disrepair and the neighborhood kids vandalized it: pulled bodies from their caskets, busted up the markers, etc. It wasn't until the newspaper did a story on it labeling it "The Shame of Urbana" that a non-profit intervened. Ultimately, they had to tear down the building and put the unidentified remains in a mass burial mound. Even after all this time, no one likes to talk about it and you can't find anything out there about it because it brought so much shame to the community.

@@lovealllife748 I think it's just another way of disrespecting the dead; destroying their resting place then refusing to take accountability when nothing is done. Then to "bury" the truth and wash it out of your town's history. If the paranormal holds some truth, then what better reason to linger.

Gotta be honest, as a latch key kid, i kicked over some gravestones when i was way younger, or i at least attempted to. As a adult who now enjoys spending time in graveyards, reading names, looking into the people, and visiting, i am full of regrets about it but i make sure i talk to every group of kids i see heading toward the graveyards, tell them how wrong it is and to be respectful, just to kinda makeup for anything i might have done. Nothing is worse than old broken graves, if they aren't already recorded they could be forgotten forever, everyone deserves to be remembered. I'm so glad you do this, you're really making a difference.

Thats so sad that people desecrate cemeteries. That is such a beautiful place. I can imagine how beautiful that mausoleum must have been. The answer to the question, do hair and nails grow after death. The answer is no, because the body dehydrates and shrinks it gives the appearance that the hair and nails grow. Great story.🤗❤❤

It also seems almost disrespectful if you think that generally walking on a grave is looked at as disrespect- to bury someone purposefully where people are meant to walk seems very off.

He didn't have money. His son thought what he made was a hundred percent profit and didn't understand you have to put a lot of the money back in to keep the business running. People who rob a place like that don't realize that rich people there money is on paper they actually think there are trunks full of money. That's how that family from that book in cold blood got murdered. a lot of people with money might have a hundred dollars on their person but most of their money is in the bank.

The father was enough of a control freak not to teach his son the business not have a competent person take over the business. He spent a lot of money glorifying the family in death. Ego. We have a large crypt from 1800s on private island on cape cod but it's marble very well protected. It was in vogue in that era by people with wealth to create crypts.
