The Maverick Hitch can be used as a remotely releasable and easily retrievable canopy anchor. When the first branch on a tree is too high or not viable for climbing (such as a dead branch), the Maverick Hitch can be rigged and set remotely, using a throwball over that first branch. The rigging involves the use of a carabiner, specifically inserted inside the hitch so as to allow both a solid grip on the hitch as it is advanced, and (almost magically) leaving one strand of rope through the carabiner after releasing it, such that the paracord preset can be returned to its prior location, and the operation can be repeated on a future climb.
