Cruising Off Duty thanks for your video. I just subscribed because I am picking up a first time drone for Christmas this year. I'm torn between the mavic pro and the mavic 2 Pro. I'm the kind of guy who wants the best of the best usually in the most current that's out there. But I'm not a professional by any means, my goal here is to have fun with my drone, and we have three weddings this year in the family that I thought would be really cool to take video and photos at with my drone. With that being said, I've heard all the high praise for the original mavic Pro, what would you recommend I stick with that or go with the mavic 2 Pro. Thanks
BRILLIANT review. You've absolutely convinced me to pay the extra cash for this newer model (I was very close to making-do with the original Mavic Pro). I think I'll be able to catch some stunning footage with it when I next cross the Atlantic to stay in Cape Breton. The Cabot Trail looks beautiful from road-level as it is, but when using this drone it will look even more epic. Thank you for your work, looking forward to watching your other Mavic Pro 2 videos.

The time you took to explain each drone impressed me better than any other reviewer in this field, enough that I just subscribed to your channel. I'm always been impressed with drones & the many things you can do with them . I am considering going into air photography & video as a hobby possibly commercially in the near future. I recently purchased a Mavic pro platinum as my first high end drone due to the price. After seeing your video I wish I waited but it's my first purchase & now after watching your video I'm better prepared & have a better understanding between the 2. My buddy has a Mavic Pro Combo Kit for only $200 new in the box would you recommend purchasing it now in 2019? I have a Inspire 2 with the X5S. Would the Mavic Pro be good for real estate and other small projects or is it not necessary? Best, Don

OK. If other viewers of COD keep wanting them and the views are there, I will keep showing them on COD. Right now I am going to put them on both channels. This video was shot in 4K so it was 13+ GB so it took forever to upload. The ATF version is still uploading. Shooting in 4K makes the files HUGE!
@11:50 . I notice much confusion on how battery capacity is determined. Mavic Pro battery is 3830 mAh/11.4V = 43.66 watt hours . The Pro 2 battery is 3850 mAH/15.4v = 59.29 watt hours. The pro 2 has 35% more capacity. People always focus on mAH which is meaningless if the voltage isn't mentioned. Much better to use watt hours .

I’m not sure if your lens flares is a valid point as at that time of the evening the Sun is dropping relatively fast in the future and would’ve been a different angle for the Mavic two than the Mavic pro without having them at the same time difficult to ascertain whether the flares made a difference
Hi Craig, that was narrated very well. Lots of good info. I’m still using the Mavic Pro. Where I live there are so many air/helicopter ports its hard to get motivated to fly sometimes. Anyway, as a sailor isn’t it going to present difficulty retrieving the drone while underway on a sailboat as opposed to a Phantom? Cheers.
Ya. I was thinking of getting the new P5 when it comes out just for that reason of catching it on a moving sailboat, but, other than that one instance the Mavic 2 Pro, being so easy to throw in your backpack and go is better for the traveller. I think what I will do is if we want to get a shot of the sailboat sailing we will have to be ready to quickly drop the sails and then I should be able to easily hand catch it. I land on the boat all the time when I am anchored.
Pre launch of this drone it was found to overheat. The radical solution was to reduce resolution or put another way, cut the heat build up by turning half the chip off. This by line skipping. This mean only half the possible sensor is used. Which can be seen in quality. Because the 1 inch sensor is housed in a tiny space it over heats but not any more not after it was half turned off. , because half of it is not used. so heat build up is not critical anymore. The P 4 pro has the same sensor, but is housed in a bigger space, it does not overheat. It can be seen in the picture quality. The MP with the 1 inch is a failure as a result. It should have been fixed with a larger housing. Check the 2.7k vid along sides the 4k vid output....ITS THE SAME Then compare it to the Phantom pro 4, the same chip at 4 K more than twice as good as the Mavic pro.
@@Bowmans-Woods You misunderstand. The issue was pre launch. There was no way to address the overheating issue without turning off half the chip, which they did. That was achieved by line skipping, in other words recording every other line only. Cutting the heat problem in half but killing the resolution at the same time. This is why the Phantom 4 with the same chip is twice as good at 4 K and why the M2P at 4k is no different from its 2.7K setting. This is the reason I did not buy it. I wanted a quality image. DJI failed to deal with the heating issue properly and cheated the customers with this crazy fix.
@@Bowmans-Woods if you are happy great, but when you have a moment check the 4k output against the 2.7K out put. It is the exact same. So is it a 4k video camera ??
Excellent video, very valuable for me as I'm looking for my 1st drone (capture overlanding footage), and know nothing about cameras, drones, filming etc. As a side note, I found one thing very interesting. Towards the end of the video, I actually preferred the original pro footage...sun flare (learned new term:), looked great and added some charm and character to me and you said "unusable"...eye of the beholder I suppose. Also, as you mentioned, color saturation was heavier on the pro 2 and again I thought it looked much better on the original pro. I think I'll go the pro route and save a few bucks, thanks again for sharing.
I know what you mean. When it comes to the camera, they are different but not different enough to make me think that an upgrade was needed. The extra sensors etc was a big plus though.
Well ware as they say here in Ireland. Good purchase. For the amount of drone work I do I can't justify the upgrade so I am sticking with the Mavic Pro for now.
The Mavic Pro is a good drone. If you know how to fly and don't need to do object tracking is tight spaces and therefore do not need all the extra sensors, it is a perfect drone at a reasonable price for the average enthusiast.
Loved my p4p, but it was so bulky especially with the skf waterproof case, too much of a hassle and kinda made me lose interest. So I think i may get a mavic p and eventually a mavic 2p for the portability
The aperture range f/2.8 ~ f/11 . . . does that include f/4 and f/5.6 in between, adding up to a total of 4 aperture settings? I'm thinking in terms of my DSLR lenses.
Love this detailed comparison! One minor thing - the old Mavic Pro does have zoom, it is just digital zoom rather than any optical zoom, and it is incremental as opposed to a nice fluid zoom.

mavic pro 1 has the worst issue with flickering shadows. it's not because of shutter speed being fast! it's a codec issue! The only way to fix it is to remove that flickering in post production.
Once again you convinced me to buy a drone, the Mavic 2 Pro. Have a question regarding the HD filters. Do you think you will be using all 8 of them or favoring just a few of them?
Hey Roger. I am sure I could live with just a couple. The ND 8 for cloudy days and the ND 16 for brighter days. ND 32 is only needed if it is extremely bright. Maybe a sunny day over a snowy base would need 32+ . but most times you can get away with 16 because with the M2P you can always close down the aperture. Have fun with the new drone!
It says right in the settings when you turn that on that it is not safe to do so as it has no side upward or back sensors. So it is not suggested to do so. You do at your own peril.
I would like to see indoor flying too (large room). I am considering a Mavic 2 to use as a crane or jib flying VERY slow but smoothly (~ 6" per second). How close will the sensors let you get to a wall?
is funny you say those flares are unusable, i purchase a plugging called optical flares for after effects just to put those "Arrhhhhh" moments on purpose on some videos, I guess each head is a world in it's own. nice video!
Screw the "Hasselblad" thing, money was not an issue to me, i Bought the Zoom because of it's Zooming capabilities, and with the new propeller design it's almost silent when it's in a decent range, you could zoom without annoying the people around you, that's worth the upgrade
small correction, the Mavic Pro DOES shoot in DLOG. It doesn't do HLG or 10-bit so still not going to be as flexible in grading or clean but perhaps you just need to update your firmware? if not, I'd like to know why you don't use DLOG on the Mavic Pro!
Hasselblad is DJI. The company was acquired by DJI sometime in 2017. It belongs to China now. The ENTIRE company. So, I'm pretty sure is marketing wha'ts going on with the "HASSELBLAD" logo on the Mavic 2 Pro camera. A bigger sensor? yes, better? obviously. Custom made?. I don't think so.
I got my Mavic Pro over summer before the Pro 2 came out for $599 with a pelican case and two batteries. The lens is a bit scratched but that's like a $100 part I'll get around to eventually. overall it was a good deal on such a portable drone
You are correct. That was an option you could turn on but I didn't trust it not to back into a tree or a wall so I always had the feature turned off. Now the new one has all the sensors so it is safe to back up at any height. I've tested it. Quite impressive.

what mavic pro has and mavic 2 pro doesnt have is 3rd party app called Autopilot which gives you amazing follow me abilities based on GPS and remote tracking. DJI follow me is based on object tracking thats why there will be always behind the tree scenarios. I use autopilot follow me and even if i go behind small hills for more than 30 seconds, the moment i am over the hill i know the mavic will be there which gives you amazing confidence with the follow me and event more dramatic shots. I believe dji can easily sell track me dongle with its own gps signature for their drones to follow up so that we can avoid using stupid object oriented (cant) follow me modes.

I just found a RU-vid video you might find interesting concerning new DVI drones. His name is Cliff Totten and has a VERY technical discussion about the cameras and processing. Not sure what quality Hasselblad is nowadays the Swedish firm used to be some of the best cameras best lenses but they got into trouble and were bought by DJI so now Hasselblad is just another DJI product
With the Platinum props already been proven sound pressure levels are almost identical between the two drones. it is not 8DB difference as you show on your screen..
@@Bowmans-Woods I have seen about 10 vodeos really quieter maybe by 1 DB which is nothing... That's what the Platinum propellers.. Also I know which videos are correct and which are bogus because I'm a sound engineer and I do studio work with 30 years of experience a lot of people don't do the test right... My whole point is that should not be a reason why you switch because it's almost nonexistent... The mavic pro with the Platinum propellers are so quiet nobody ever looks up no matter where I go.. I've heard the mavic 2 person also. Like I said almost no difference.. ;) So that should be no reason to switch whatsoever...

Bitrate has nothing to do with dynamic range or more colours. Has to do with compression. If you're shooting a static scene, 60 vs 100 will have no difference
At 17:45 you reference a drone that weaves better than the Mavic through trees and such and follows really well without losing you. But I think it has like 12 cameras on board to do this.
I see most have issues landing on a boat , what's to stop these program writers from inventing as landing glove so the drone just focuses on a chip in the mitt and comes right home.
I havent tried it but I have heard if you quickly grab it from below and turn the Mavic upside down, it will shut the motors off. That will make it easier. So as long as you can grab it with one hand, you wont need 2 hands to turn off the motors with the joystick. I will need to test that.
Hey...you can't fly a drone over residential areas with all those buildings...isn't that illegal? Someone should call the cops...oh, wait... :-) Hopefully you will get some side by side over water before you sell the old one. I'd like to see the colour/glare comparisons.

I am not sure what your statement means? I think you are saying it is only worth the upgrade if you are doing professional work? Some people just like putting out the best quality even if it costs them money out of their own pocket to do it. That would be me. I definitely lose money doing RU-vid paying for all of this camera and drone gear. But it is my hobby.
WHO TOLD YOU THE CAMERA IS THE SAME FROM THE ORIGINAL MAVIC PRO AND THE ZOOM? Just because thery are same sensor size doesnt mean that its the same quality camera...
It is a better camera than my original Mavic. The zoom has the same exact sensor but added a zoom lens. I don't need or want a zoom. So not worth the upgrade
