That is very interesting! You're prob right it needed that updated firmware, though I've never seen that issue before in my years of DJI flying like you. You remember what error it was giving you? Could it have been location, 2.4Ghz interference, or maybe NFZ boundaries... Glad you got it working now - I've been loving the Mavic Air so far, and possibly the most bang for the buck drone with killer camera and features (and Sport mode is insanely fast! :)
Just kept saying "maximum flight distance reached" even tho the settings were clearly set farther than 160 feet. But ya! I'm excited to try it out more now that it's working.
I love my new Mavic Air, had it for 2 days and everything has been amazing. It is my first Dji drone, the only downsides are that they constanty update stuff and you have to restart etc to get it to work, and the first setup is not simple
Your antennas are parallel with the controller when holding it. That is best for flying straight up.They should be perpendicular pointing to the sky if you are trying to get distance.
Thankd for taking that initial hit on the learning curve for us that waited a few weeks to order. Love my Mavic Air so far. Videos are clean and stable.

中国制造 Made in China My mistake I meant the Pro. The app crashes every time i fly and with the screen on the remote at least I'm not flying blind. I'm sure they'll have a 2nd version i would wait for that. But i really wish they'd keep the app from crashing!
I've never had the Go app crash before when using my P3A, but yeah - redundancy is always better. Aside from that though, it shouldn't be the end of the world if the app crashed midflight. The drone should just return to home after a minute or so without inputs.
Not sure what flight rules are like in the US but in Canada windmills have Notam's (Notice to airmen) around them which is a no fly zone. Should probably check FAA regulations before flying..
You probably wont read this because I am watching 2 years later but the limits are because you had the propeller guards on. It has a mode called payload which keeps the motors from overloading. It could also be that you had a bad connection :)
was beginner mode still on? I think it is set as default when you first fly the drone. Or did you turn off beginner mode when the mavic was still in the air?

Thanks for not being a DJI fanboy! I have two DJI drones... the Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic Pro; both are great. I purchased the Mavic Air and was extremely disappointed. I lost connectivity after 100 yds and the noise levels in the shadows made the video unusable. I returned it. I was so hoping is would be a dream drone.

Unless you dont attach a cellphone to the remote.. mavic air is contraped only to 190ft. When you connect your cell phone it gets to a kilometre of range
Don't use those propeller protectors to have less drag on the drone, so it's gonnabe less shaky. The signal problem is because of the WIFI that the quadcopter is using, but seems like it can be solved with system update. Nice vid, have fun with your new toy/workhorse.
I noticed that your antennas have been pointing directly to the drone. Air has omnidirectional antennas, as long as they are perpendicular to the direction to the drone. The area above pointy antenna is actually a dead zone for wifi. I think it might have contributed to the short range.
Consider taking your propellers guards off when flying in windy areas. Drone performance would be much better and won't struggle against the wind as much. Cheers.

There are a thousand reasons people don't like wind turbines, and it's usually people that have to live near them. The biggest problems are often shady dealings that happen to secure the land that they're on. One of the biggest crooks I know is now in the turbine business. I personally have no problem with them, and have a hard time believing the ill heath effects that are said to be attached to the long term exposure to the flashing (shadow/light) and the humming. There is also the issues that have apparently affected thousands of migratory birds. There ya go Jerry. Nice video.

Something is wrong with your drone because mine can go 2km far !!!! It's an awesome drone check it because there might be a problem btw mine doesn't shake in strong air gusts!!!!!
Agree. The metal of the vehicle messes with the calibration of the drone. That's the reason why the drone started flying weird and couldn't compensate with the strong wind.
I think that the first three times or something that you fly it, it sets itself in automatically in "beginner mode" and it gives itself many limitations. Like how far it can go, how high, how fast, etc. We have seen this from other manufacturers, so this might be it. I really doubt that DJI of all companies would allow for such a bad firmware to roll out
The same thing happened to me, but with my Phantom 3 pro. I went to Mexico city and got to fly only 200 ft around me, it was very frustrating. Ended up finding out that you need to uninstall and re-install the Dji app on your phone and it worked like a charm.
FYI, I got caught by that too, but the firmware updates are applied to the smart batteries. This could have misled you (as it did me) thinking the drone was updated already, when in fact you had updated another smart battery.
I was really frustrated with my mavic air when I first got it. Updates and no fly zones and weather was keeping me from flying. It hasn't updated on I've a month now and I got more familiar with it. I am really enjoying it. Can't wait for warmer weather. Blue skies will be awesome with the circular polarizer I bought as well.
The reason why the problem occurred is because of the drone flying next to metal the calibration error will ask u to re calibrate causing u not to fly it since u took of on top of a car which made the compass was messed up causing it to not fly long distance....
I got the same Flame red mavic air, Wasn't pleasant when I first flew it. But it kept surprising me after some practice, must try sport mode! The speed is insane
if your a pro , why did you put on the propeller guards ? the air will sense the propeller guards by the added weight , and automatedly go into beginner mode .
