Dear Ben, thanks for your comments of support, Kate is indeed a special character and she's worth the effort to save. Kate unfortunately goes through hell in LIS, she has her drink spiked with a date rape drug by Nathan, who then takes her for a session with Jefferson in the Darkroom. Victoria uploads a video onto the internet of Kate's behaviour as a result of being drugged and sends links to the entire campus. When Kate reaches out for help from a teacher, unfortunately Jefferson on this occasion, and has her concerns and feelings dismissed as just 'being too brittle' it's too much accumulated emotional trauma and she attempts/commits suicide from the roof of the Blackwell Dorms. @@nickmattedwards Jefferson is pure evil but I agree. Kate is worth saving and does not deserve any of the horrible things that happened to her. Getting that scene where you visit her at the hospital and see her smile is enough to feel like it was worth it.

I failed to save Kate the first time, having come from ten years of FPS, my responses where built around the need to shoot the alien, shoot the zombie etc. The observation of information, the need for subtlety, the interaction skills , they had passed me by. The acquisition of a different skills matrix was one of the reasons I played LIS, so I replayed the 'Out of Time 'episode from the beginning. I never thought that LIS would lead me back to video editing after I had walked away in frustration and disgust in 2007. As much as you may occasionally see the path you're on in life, you rarely if ever get to see the destination. Its interesting that you should mention Mark Jefferson's telephone call. It's the only time we get to see him in a position of being beholden to someone. As to the identity of the caller, I always had a feeling that it was Sean Prescott, Nathan's Father, bringing pressure to bear on one of his contacts at Blackwell. I wonder if Mark Jefferson had not been caught and stopped, would Sean have been on his eventual list after Nathan?

I understand Nicholas: that if you are used to a particular genre of game: then playing something completely different, will obviously leave you, needing to find your feet. I am glad: that LIS lead you back to video editing. You obviously are very creative in this medium. And, I wish you every success with your endeavours. I agree, when you are on a path in life. It seems daunting, whether you will reach your destination or not. I have found a new path myself. Where I wish to become a computer modeller/artist. So, I have been working on that goal. It does seem a long way, before I will reach my own destination. But, I say to you. Not to give up on your dreams. And, keep fighting for them. You have a lot of real talent. So, keep up the excellent work!With regards to what you mentioned about Mark Jefferson. I also thought it was Sean Prescott on the phone, as well. Nathan seemed too controlled by his father, for it to be him. I think if Mark Jefferson wasn't caught, he would have left a paper trail to Sean Prescott, incriminating him: and Mark Jefferson would have moved to another town, to continue his deadly passion. I had a lot of crazy suspicions about LIS. Some came true. Some did not. There was a time, when Victoria was blackmailing Mr Jefferson. I actually believed at first: that he was sleeping with the student: and the phone call was from her putting pressure on him. I also believed the Prescotts were behind the storm, at one point. And, I thought that was why the dark room was created, as well, as for Mr Jefferson's needs. That they had created some kind of science experiment, which had gone wrong, effecting the eco-system. Going back to the game: and how it panned out. I didn't understand, why after arresting Mr Jefferson for his crimes. Why the town didn't use the dark room, to escape the storm. After all, I found a letter mentioning something about it been a storm bunker. If Max had taken everyone to there. They would have escaped the storm, with it being underground: and in this context. Both Arcadia Bay and Chloe would have survived! I know it would have been cramped. But, still effective!

In 2018, I'm going to find out if the following people can be saved: William Price Megan Weaver Rachel Amber Nathan Prescott Victoria Chase Chloe Price Max Caulfield "Once more unto the breach, dear friends,once more." We'll see yet, if I can bend the fates of justice to my will...

Dear puppy dawg3356, thanks for your comment. The contrived sacrifices of people and places that DONTNOD forced into LIS are intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt. I refuse to dignify them with my participation, as it's genuinely legitimate to reject them. The structure and contents of this alternate finale was arrived at after considerable research in order that it best reflect the most statistically probable resolution to the game.

Yes, I agree. I watched a playthrough of it and well sadly she wasn't saved. So I'm always glad seeing videos where she's saved and seeing something like this just really gets to me.

Dear Blake, time for a confession of my own. I came to play LIS coming from a past history of years filled with FPS' which always went something like shoot the Alien, shoot the Demon, shoot the Nazi, shoot the Zombie, etc, etc. Suffice to say that I didn't have a clue what I was doing in LIS. I had made such a hash of things by the time I came to the end of Chapter 2 and then suffered the ignominy of just failing utterly to save Kate from jumping. I was so upset that I decided to restart the came from scratch. So there you go, it happens, but I'm glad I got a second chance.

Wow! I don't blame you for restarting it from scratch. Such an emotional investment. I admit I had a similar experience when I first played the original Deus Ex and nearly every character died due to my own stupidity. Later when I played again I made different choices and saved everyone from terrible fates. Some took longer times to figure out than others.

Those sections of our society that do nothing but criticise and blame video games fail to understand just what the audience can gain from the platform.

Dear Emanullah, thanks for having the strength to share your experience of pain with use. Although I don't know as to what caused your suffering, if I were to speak for myself I'd say that the 'one sized life, fits all people' is a lie that society attempts to brainwash us all into believing is true. Tragically it results in so many of us becoming alienated from who we really are. The pain caused by this divorce from ourselves is a selfishness that society has never apologised for. Cast the good seeds upon the earth and then let the flowers grow as they may...

@@nickmattedwards Man it's complicated, first my mom left me when i was 3 years old, then the doctors finde out i have healtth problems with my spine (scoliosis) and every year it got much worst and i can't do anything what i love in life coz of my healt problem i can still walk but when i stand longer then 10 minutes in one spot or if i walk for 1h it hurts like hell, and i know that one day im gonna end up in a wheelchair coz of that stupid health problem, and that's my short story why i attempted suicide i still think sometimes do do it.. What's the point if im gonna end up in a wheelchair, And thank u so much for replying 😊

Dear Emanullah, thanks be to you for the strength you must have for sharing your situation. I myself have battled with poverty, physical disability, depression and illness most of my life. There have been so many times when I've wondered as why I've gone on, wondered as to what point there was in anything. I take some comfort in the knowledge that with every passing decade the store of human knowledge increases greatly. We may well be one of the last generations to suffer the hardships which have plagued humanity over the time of it's existence. An end to cancer, diabetes etc and the physical anomalies which act as barriers to enjoying an active life and so many other things. I came across this wisdom recently. 'The truth of the matter is this, if we lived forever then we’d find the answers to all of life’s mysteries and everything would make sense. But as we don’t, it doesn’t. So instead we must all look, very hard, to see the beauty in our lives. For we all incredibly lucky just to be here at all.'
