I have a cockatiel and green cheek conure. They both require patience but nothing compared to a cockatoo like Max. It really would be like living with a temperamental toddler

Curseius Wish I had a Max forty years ago , I wouldn't have got married to my grumpy old hubby who mutters and mumbles just like Max , sometimes whatever one does is wrong on certain days . Even my grown up sons though they were listening to their father but it WAAAS MAX on my computer .😈😈😈😈

Very true, BUT I do feel for Dan. He wasn't looking to own an exotic bird, he rescued Max and I know its gotta be hard sometimes. He hasn't had a vacation in over 5 years, he has parts of his house destroyed, etc. This is the perfect example of why people should NOT perpetuate the exotic pet trade by buying birds from pet stores (I don't mean Dan, he rescued Max). Most people are not this amazing with their birds as Dan is. Most people either leave their birds in the cage all the time or for hours a day which is so sad. Dan is an amazing ambassador for this beautiful exotic bird, whether he realizes it or not.

I wondered the same thing; I don't see why he couldn't have nightmares, he's definitely bright enough.

I thought that it was a possibility too. We know that animals dream so it stand to reason that they can have a bad dream. I've had two different birds that would panic in the middle of the night on rare occasions and I would have to turn on the light and comfort them. I've also seen a ferret make what sounded like distress noises in her sleep.

Yes he did! He mumbles it a few times after that one moment. Max comes up with some on-point phrases at the funniest times. They're in several of his videos. That's one of the cute things about him.

Cockatoos are beautiful, beautiful birds, but owning one is like being married to a 2 year old...FOREVER.

It's like living with a 2 year old constantly running around with a pair of pliers and a foghorn.

Very sweet! I love all kinds of birds but I’ve never had one of my own. Watching this video makes me think about having one. I have a Yorky that is 11 years old that I love with all my heart. Maybe a cockatoo might be a great addition.... someday.

We've surmised that Max's grumbly voice, as he's using here quite a lot is really an Cockatoo version of Dan's voice. Parrots are great mimics and often "speak" in the voice of their human companions.

Lisa Adolf yeah except he's said in interviews that his first owner was an old man and probably kept an AM radio near his cage. That's where the voice comes from.

So do I, he's just such a character. Plus, he's just the cutest.
