Always my favorite moment in this piece.

Well. Obviously they're not "required" to... that would be ridiculous. I know many female violinists and the topic has come up: generally it's a matter of finding a comfortable long sleeve performance shirt- my colleagues want something lightweight that doesn't tug on their breasts which can happen when they move their bowing arm in particular. It is not the easiest shirt to find you know. All that aside, the females like feeling good and the less material on a hot stage the better. I would wear a singlet if I could! It would look unprofessional tough.... when I wear a performance coat I ALWAYS wear a short sleeve shirt underneath (sometimes with the sleeves actually cut off). I'll never do the whole massive-cuffs-protruding-from-the-sleeves thing unless I'm absolutely forced to! Here is a link to one of my concerts with my dear friends wearing whatever they wanted as long as it was black. Mainly long sleeves you will notice because we were there to make music. Well, Bill, I don't make the rules...I just enjoy them.
