Following on from the Max Bygraves performance of I Wish I Could Sing Like Jolson, Max is joined by his orchestra leader Geoff Love in a bit of comedy that resulted in Max impersonating Al Jolson while Geoff mimed.
Ha, ha! Wonderful upload! I understand your concern as to whether to upload it, or not, thinking it might not be p.c. enough for these times, but it's all in good fun, just as it was between Frank, Dean, and Sammy. Just like The Rat Pack, anyone can see here that Geoff, and Max were good friends, and simply poking fun, and having a great time entertaining everyone. Thanks so much, David for sharing this great clip! Wonderful tribute to both Al Jolson, and Larry Parks!!! :))
Wonderful. When was this filmed, obviously before 1975 due to the reference about Larry Parks. Why can't people take this type of thing for what it was, a bit of harmless fun.
Geofr Love was game for anything he was one of the old great band brigade who I never got tired of watching, I liked Geoff better than Billy Cotton and he was good.
It's kind of disappointing to see such an acclaimed, internationally renowned and respected director of music, composer and leader having to pander to stereotypes of the day. He was worth a million of Bygraves (who was talent-less). I can't watch such a great man being belittled like this. Let's just be honest, Geoff would never have suggested doing this silly skit.
