don't fall for it... this how they get you..., first they drag you in with combos and fancy tag systems, then bam, youve been playing league for 6 years and you have depression.
I never left, I was there when the old magic was spoken and this THING that eventually morphed into some beautifully toxic mess was created and now I am stuck, here in eternity, buying lux all her skins and paying for this free game...join us, join us in the abyss, see the other side you can never escape from
@@thechugg4372 nah, "Some characters have unique movement options in the air." So some characters have air dashes, not all. Like that Ahri gameplay 100% had air dashes weaved in. Probably better that way honestly.
And the thing is that he can't jump or be knocked up because he is literally a giant walking metal can. His basic melee attacks are somewhat slower than average but can be combined with strong kicks and grabs to contain them until Nightfall can be bonked to them. He takes reduced damage and can only block projectiles right in front of him. Death Realm would also slowly chip away the enemy's health during the duration
@@cye2310 ooo the chip idea is a bit much imo, for a fighting game chip can be legit game changing. I like the idea of preventing switch outs for both sides. It should also cost meter
@@TheHonestSage He should be akin to Pheonix from UMVC3. Death Realm should be a 5-Bar super if they go with that kind of meter system that is akin to Dark Pheonix, giving him insane buffs and stats and essentially being an auto win if you can pull off a difficult way to get it to activate while at 5 bars; Pheonix's was dying and being constantly drained of health and having like, the legit smallest health pool in the game I just see Morde as a slow, strong raid boss who eventually ascends into a nigh unkillable god if you let him play his own game
I believe they have multiple people working on other characters at the same time, it’s just illaoi was the furthest along in development so they showed her first. Riot tends to do things like that so I wouldn’t be surprised if next time we see the game they show off 3 to 5 new fighters.
I bet they've put out Illaoi as a red herring for all the other more hyped champs in roster dev. I refuse to believe they haven't put one or two between Vi or Jax or Riven (who was created with FG in mind) on top of the priority list cause that's just borderline bs.
@@fraker12 oh for sure. I personally want to see rumble make it in to the game. I’d guess he would play like Tron from UMVC3 and Sett but he’s kinda a shoe in imo
@@pocketpicktv I would love rumble in the game. Especially since I main rumble jungle In league of legends and I do pretty good. Love his overheat mechanics how they enhance his abilities and his ult
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
Ahri's flow is so pretty...and I bet you money she'll have her K/DA or Star Guardian outfits and it'll probably look flashy and unique to her. Jinx is just *chefs kiss* too.
An Ahri figure sitting in the office was wearing the KDA skin at the very beginning of the update. We already know PL is going to be F2P, iconic skins from League is the way to go for monetisation.
Oh boy...KDA All out Kaisa will be *gorgeous*, and then there's Divine Sword Irelia, who's basically a human lily flower. Not sure if the championship skins will be ported over, because Riven and Shyvana *dazzle* in them.
Look at the visual communication at 13:22 and at 13:27, the green burst ring goes outward and hits Jinx when not blocked, but when it hit her blocking it just did a u-turn inward and hit Darius instead.
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
Like "Za Major" said "Ah, Herr Doctor, but that iz the plan~! Now that zhey know our plan, zhey will plan around our plan, and zo we zhall in turn plan around zhe plan zhat zhey are planning around our plan!!" 🤣
This update has given me so much hope for this game to be sick. I'm not a huge league fan but seeing them in this way is really getting me excited to see who all gets added
Take it from someone who is a begrudging participant in league of legends ( dont really like the game but my friends play it all the time so i participate), everything having to do with league that isnt the game itself is awesome. The actual setting and lore are really deep and interesting, and most characters are very well written and have great backstories. The spinoff games Legends of Runeterra (online card game) and Ruined King (Battlechasers-esque RPG) are both excellent games as well. And then of course, there’s Arcane, which is just an excellent show set in the league universe. So I’m not at all worried for this game, everything from Riot is pretty good, outside of League itself. I would actually really recommend checking out Arcane if you have Netflix, it’s a great show for one, and it’ll give you the backstory for a few characters in project L, like Jinx and Ekko.
@@TheVenhammer i would say league itself is fine, what makes it toxic is the community, when everything flows well league is really fun, the problem is that this almost never happens, there is always an asshole to ruin your game (and day)
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
I was waiting for Max's reaction all day, didn't disappoint! Really like that even on his day off he took the time out of his day to give us his impression. Thanks DOOD!

@@zxcv97 i saw the teleporting. Is that a big thing in League? It seems to me like it would be almost cheating. Movement seems a vital part of League's mechanisms.
@@mikejonesnoreally In League, there's a class of characters called Assassins and they are supposed to have very high mobility to dash in and blow up some squishies in the middle of a teamfight and then escape. Ekko and Ahri are two that belongs in this class, so if you're referring to their mobility options in Project L, it's mirroring their mobility in League.
@@mikejonesnoreally There's many characters that have teleports. There is room for teleports in fighting games and it doesn't always mean that footies don't exist. Neutral in UMvC3 for example is extremely chaotic and it isn't entirely dominated by teleport characters. There are ways to balance teleportation, I wouldn't be too worried about that.
Always said that LoL should be made into a fighting game due to the sick roaster and i am so happy this is happening. Glad to see the team putting so much love into this project! ^^
I also like some League Rosters and I played them a while ago but, I stopped because the toxicity of the match and I have no friends to play League with. So, with this Project L. I hope I can return to League the same way Arcane did the same. I love Jinx in Arcane and League so, I hope this Project L Jinx is the same fun I feel
Pretty much same for me actually, played it a long time ago like none stop because i loved the characters but games like that are better with friends i feel, so in end i just stopped but still try to keep up with the characters when i can!
Riot's design for characters has always been more about "How do we make the character feel like the character" instead of "What does this character bring to the table" or "How does this character's kit interact with one another". Compared to say Dota 2 where character are more like toolboxes that you play around with and used against other players. That isn't to say Riot don't think about the balance of the characters kit and vice versa but you get the idea. So for a game like LoL, a game of flashy characters doing flashy things, getting a fighting game based on it is just perfect. Now you can have flashy characters doing flashy things, without having to worry about getting ganked or not having good net worth, but instead clicking buttons at the right place at the right time, which basically is the other half of playing League.
ekko's really doing some crazy stuff man. i'm so excited for this, kinda sad that we have to wait a little longer but yeah it's better than being a rushed product.
Fighting Game announcements/updates have just been up on an entirely different level this year. Street Fighter VI, Tekken 8, Garou 2, Project L, DBFZ/GG Xrd Rollback and so much more. Also 2022 had one of the best EVO's in recent memory for me. To say the future of the FGC is bright is the understatement of the decade.
The fundamentals and mobility of this game is unbelievable. We've yet to see Supers/Ults and elements from League itself like iconic skills such as Flash and Ignite (probably skill gauges that charge overtime) will be implemented into the gameplay meaning the team definitely still have much more to show, unreal.
@@abdelkarimouzzine5671 My ideas are: Summoner Spells can utilise a skill cooldown system where the player gets an opportunity to use it after it reaches a certain level and afterwards recharge overtime similar to GB: VS. It can also be used to combo into Super. Basically it adds more strategy and depth to the game just like Drive Impact is doing in SF6. Runes can be inherently apart of each champion archetype and properly showcased on the character select screen. Domination for Rushdowns, Sorcery for Zoners, Precison for Grapplers etc.
Hey Max. I appreciate that you talk to us RU-vidrs before you got into the video. I know that alot of your content is pulled off of twitch, but the fact that you spoke to us made me feel like a part of it all. This game looks smooth. Never played league of legends either.
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
I actually *love* the fact that the combos does not seem as spammy as other tag-fighters. Slower pace definitely looks cleaner, this way I get to see all the beautiful animations instead of 5 air jabs to extend in the air. This looks less chaotic as well, this is looking really good so far and it is free. That is..crazy.
I've been wanting this so bad for so long. I remember my friends showing me league back in Season 2. And my first thought was "damn these would make some awesome fighting game characters"
Yeah there's at least 50 champions that would fight right into a fighting game with the same kit. Plenty more that could get in with some creativity, I didn't see Jinx coming for example but she looks awesome.
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
As someone who loved BBTag but fell off from the lack of support, I'm super happy to see ProjectL with an active tag system, it looks like it'll be super fun.
As someone who loves League and whose favorite anime fighter was BBTAG this game keeps feeling like it's BBTAG all grown up with more diverse kits in a world I love. Could not be more excited to see more details and enough copium to get me to the next update. And as always Max's reactions don't disappoint!
Read up on champions' lore too, the main game is horrendous but Riot has been trying to diversify for a while now, starting with the lore, which is now super expansive. Arcane took place in only a small corner of Zaun, Runeterra is so much more.
One thing this has that I really liked in Bbtag is how you don’t just have one assist. It makes your assist me feel more natural and dynamic when they have different options.
@@kotasake havent play bbtag, but i think the difference is u can pick which assist of a few options mid match, and switch it up as u go, but dbfz is one static choice bfor the game starts.

Every time he said power rangers instead of BBtag broke my heart. All these tag and switches and being sandwiched in between two characters is 100% from BB tag

Very excited to see how they implement the Champions themes and fantasy into the fighting game system. They look great so far and I can't wait to see the base roster.
Always love seeing Max's insight on fighting game trailers and whatnot. He really puts potential mechanics into perspective and brings a good eye to what you might be able to do with the game. Super stoked for Project L. It looks better every time they show something for it.
Damn just imagining what champs in LoL do adapted to this is insane. I can imagine some draven catching his axes mini game or just yasuo in general lol.
Holy ****! That is super dope. I am now truly interested into seeing where this goes next. Also, remember they have over 20+ champion roster to re-work into this fighting game.
as someone who has played a lot of bbtag, the whole active tag and burst baiting things are going to be wild, some of these tag mechanics look pretty on par with bbtag i just hope they implement a cross combo mechanic lol
I believe that this game will be a main stay at Evo and other tournaments...i personally would like to have the ability to choose from easy no motions game play to like motions were you get special moves by putting in the correct motions like SF Mvc and Kof hopefully something like that can be added later on but this game might not be available until late 2023 or mid 2024.
As an aside I am confident that the gift sub bet that Involved project L news at the game awards is pretty much off the table and Max is not in danger of paying for gift subs. This happened the last time during Keighley's summer game fest. They posted a dev vlog separate from that thing and didn't show a trailer during the show proper.
I really hope this is a big hit and we end up getting tons of characters over time, there are SO many Champs that could translate to awesome fighters. I lucked out with one of my top picks being Illaoi. lol
I haven't played league for at least 6 years (and not planning on going back) but I did love it's characters, so a chance to play with those characters again without having to play league is a dream scenario, also when I saw those tag combos I thought "I NEED to see Max's reaction to this"
I believe handshake tag can happen anytime they're both onscreen so in both the assist scenario and the dynamic save scenario they can choose to swap the character to new one. Overall super hyped with how this is shaping up!
This looks so cool! Although a lot of tag stuff looks the same to me, maybe a video highlighting the differences in tag systems in different games would be good?
As an old school TekkenZaibatsu forum goer it's so cool to see Unconkable in a project like this. Despite being dedicated to Armour King and Devil there was never a sense of character bias when he posted. That balanced view lead to him being the creator of what was the most interesting and definitive character tier list thread for Tekken tag 1. That beast was over 500 posts long and anyone who was anyone the community chimed in. It was a great read I'm not sure if the page is even there anymore sadly but project L is in great hands.
Hope the next update video gives us an idea of what roster we can expect. I'm most excited about thinking who will make it in and what they'll be like in the game, super into this game, i never really got into tag based fighting games so this will be my first shot at it.
The characters look good. And the stage doesn't look bad. I'm not into the projectiles and effects right now, but I'm sure those will be improved in time.
You only need to see Jinx's bombs to realize it's almost not even a playable beta. You're the kinda guy who worries because early stages graphics of GTA VI look bad right? omg...
You are really critiquing visuals at this point of game dev? We are not even close to a beta announcement my guy. It might as well be ((placeholder projectile)) text floating across the screen.
The sheer potential of this game is insane. The amount of characters they can pick and choose from for this game is insane. The animation, movement, and mechanics - the quality and amount of polish this game seems to be getting - is all right up there in the AAA-class. I still can't believe this is actually being made, let alone into a free-to-play format, but here we are. I believe this has the potential to become the biggest fighting game release in terms just about everything. Like...goddamn, what a time to be fighting game enthusiast!
It looks great. Usually tag fighters are overwhelming for me, but this doesn’t seem too over the top. Visuals and mechanics are all pretty exciting. Only thing I’m miffed about is my League mains not being in the roster…
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
I haven't had interest in LoL until Arcane (me and probably alot of others aswell). I haven't played the actual game of League but the lore interests me and as an avid fighting game player i was excited for this game when it was first announced. I cant wait to see more
I didn't play too much of league, but enough to get a halfway decent sense of all the different identities of the champions through their gameplay. Personally, it looks like Project L is keeping that same theme of keeping each of the Champs' identities intact here, which is paramount. Especially with this active of a tag system, it really feels like they've taken the small-scale gameplay loop of 1v1/1v2/2v1/2v2 fights in league and transferred it into the fighter format. SUPER hype for future updates ✌🏾
For all the issue MvCI had, it played like a dream and the mechanics and online are the only part that felt really polished. The shades of it I see jn Project L really make me smile, cuz this project has the added benefit of looking great and hopefully having a perfect roster.
What’s hilarious is that I never have any idea what you’re talking about, Max. But I’m a sucker for people who are passionate about their stuff AND can nerd out WELL about a topic! I’m a fan!
@@rinkujoka232 As long as skins are not as expensive and low quality like valorant im happy with it, since riot already made so much stuff for each champ im expecing some damn good quality and they are sure taking their damn time with this one so they better not dissapoint
"I am still a pure hearted kindred spirit" Ah, funny that. Kindred is in fact one of the League's character(s) (pairs). Not sure if they will ever end up in the fighting game though and they most likely are not your jam anyhow.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but I think after you use Ekko's rewind I think you have to do a manual input to recharge it so that you can use it again, because after using it, Ekko then grabs and pulls on a wire which for the most part doesn't seem to do anything else. This would make sense from a fighting game perspective since that ability can provide so much utility for combo's, pressure, and neutral, so it would make sense to have it be something that you have to take a risk by activating.
If you also look closely there are times he weaves the recharge mid-combo or mid pressure. I feel like its going to be a good animation cancel to remove end-lag off of blocked/hit normals.
There is also riot forge games and legends of runeterra, so cool to see more stuff in this universe and not having to force people into playing league (i'm a league player lol)
Damn Rek'Sai will be lit on this, Imagine whipping his tail then one of his kit is create a void hole to instantly go to another place example behind his opponent then do a combo.
Def hyped for this one. As a competitive smash player and my fav 2d fighting game being CvsSNK2 who doesnt play much of anything these days... this game will be one of the few i might check out
This is looking better and better! Still has a lot of hitstun, but I could probably get used to that. The tags, the saves and most of all Ekko swinging that clamp got me HYYYYYPED!
I can't wait to see what this game looks like when it fully lit and shaded. Right now the characters look like they're sitting on top of the backgrounds as opposed to being in the environment. That's my only issue with the visuals at this point. The animation however is a drastic improvement over the previous footage and it's only going to get better closer to release.
As someone who played league I'm excited, I'm more of a fighting game person unless it is predecessor. I can't wait to see characters in action like malzahar,Vi,akshan,200 years,Fiora ( who will likely have her complete damage negating riposte),mordekaiser(my favorite top lane),sylas( the copycat like seth of sf4 and 5), and lastly zoe ( who will probably be a terror to deal with since her assist will probably be paddle star[her Q])
except for Power Ranger, this type of assist tag reminds me a lot of the last iterations of Naruto Ninja Storm series. Obviously there are huge differences because they are arena fighter games, but the fact that you can switch at any time with your assist character, as long as they are on field, reminds me a lot about that games.
Project L looking real nice indeed 🔥💯 super hyped og and btw: i have a feeling the next MK game is gonna be tag based, maybe thats why its taking them so long to reveal it cause its still long ways to go just a prediction 😶
Max, it'd be fun to do a Rate the Champions as an April Fools video, fluffed as you choosing a main for your new League of Legends career. There's probably better ideas, but it'd serve to get you thinking about how they could translate these characters to a 2D fighter!
@@ChargeQM He didn't really rate it per see. He only look at the roster and said who he think might be a good option for the fighting game. You can search the vid in his channel
Max saw some of the roster last time, but he needs to look at their skins next. I can't wait to see Dunkmaster Darius, Arcade Ahri, TrueDamage Ekko, Odyssey Jinx, and so much more that they can hopefully make it possible!
I hope everyone who's excited about this game will check and watch Arcane on Netflix, that show is phenomenal a masterpiece IMO. Doesn't matter if you haven't played or are familiar with League of Legends, the show does a great job of introducing characters who aren't familiar to the game but tells a decent story overall.
Agreed. I hope Arcane becomes even more well known as a result of the Fighter L hype, and the Fighter L hype grows because of the Arcane hype. Riot has been killing the entertainment scene lately.
I hope they add "modes" you can play in a type of "stone selection" ability like MvCi. Like if you choose the "aggressive mode" when selecting your characters, you get buffs you can activate that will fit your style of play like how you would select stones in MvCi. You could have an aggressive, defensive, etc modes. I just really miss the stone modifier stuff from MvCi
That powers rangers mix when you think it’s your turn, but they switched into assist right behind you. Such a underrated game. Crossplay, great net code, marvel kinda bullshit with easy controls.
Cause the team is comprised of famed veterans that are apart of the FGC themselves. Shaun the director is a Tekken finalist from the 2000's and the Cannon brothers, specifically the executive producer Tom, is the person who created and founded EVO and the creator of GGPO aka Rollback Netcode.
What i am worried is if the combos will be too long, or if they will put stagger pressure in the game. I think stagger pressure is important because it's a different type of pressure where you bait a counter hit. If pressure is mainly based on mix up, well it's cool, but being stuck in long string pressure can be frustrating. If they give us good tools to get out of pressure, then i think i'll have no complains (well, at least until i test the game). I don't play a lot of fighting games, but here are some points i like. Edit: just hope combos strings do not feel too long
The game looks a lot like Strive, it has a burst, two types of push block, and the combos aren't that long compared to mvc3, dbfz and skullgirls. I would say they are trying to make it less frustrating as possible
There is combo dropoff you can see a few time in the gameplay, theres one combo where ahri wakes up midair and the one where she charms ekko in the corner wasnt true if you notice ekko blocked the previous move because he was in combo for too long, she just dash canceled into a command grab
I was sold as soon as I saw Ahri. I always loved her design, even though I don't play LOL, but seeing her in movement and being exactly the kind of character I like using. Such fluid movement, just looks badass. 100% sold.
Game looks really good so far, but i always struggle with tag based fighters like this. Kind of wish there was a 1 v 1 mode. I'll probably be watching it a lot but not playing it. Lol
Agreed. I just can't get tag timings down, in any game. Focusing on chaining combos and specials together is hard enough for me. Every time a game has tag assists or tag teams I just think "Great, something I can't grasp that my opponent will use to endlessly juggle me". Just not fun. Really disappointed they went 2v2 instead of 1v1.
The FGC is lucky that you can't exactly troll teammates in fighting games, if just 1% of the amount of trolls in League played Project L it'd be the most trolled fighting game in history.
