There’s been no indication that Yoshimitsu has ever been more than one person in every single Tekken game. We can’t know 100%, since he doesn’t show his face, but we know he always have his robotic hand, which implies it’s the same guy. What Max might be thinking of is how in Soul Calibur Yoshimitsu is indeed a title, and that title eventually gets passed on to Yoshimitsu II in Soul Calibur 5, who killed the previous Yoshi to take his title. The Yoshimitsu in Tekken is therefore one in a long line of Yoshimitsus spanning hundreds of years, but within the timeline of Tekken that we’ve taken part in so far from Tekken 1-8, as far as we know, he’s the only one.
@@romullorodrigues4975 Yoshi is not an android lol, he's been human since Tekken 1. He has a cybernetic left arm but that's it, it's merely a prosthetic
Some real DMC inspiration indeed, and his armor reminds me of the physical devil trigger form that they had planned for Nero in DMC4. That form unfortunately eventually was turned into a floating blue ghost... thing. Such a shame that they didn't bring it back in DMC5.
also his mirages when he moves looked pretty cool. you can see he has like 4 or 5 trailing behind him whenever he moves. idr them being in tekken 7 but ik it was in tekken 3
*The true beauty of Yoshimitsu* is in the fact that he is a nigh complete enigma, more of an embodiment of a spirit of justice that punishes evil-doers. It is a true old-timey kind of heroic figure: faceless, a bit scary, weird, comes out of nowhere, does the deed and then dissipates into the night. "Yoshimitsu" literally tranlates to "light of happiness" and his TTT theme has passages of "No mind, no ear, no nose, no panic, no shape, no shape", as in the mind can come to a conclusion that might impede justice, ears and nose might make one distracted from fulfilling justice and a constant shape is a form that can be defeated, thus halting the output of justice. Well, at least this is the way I see it.
"complete enigma" = like other characters, they've barely written him, but fortunately he's weird visually and play style wise, so that makes up for it, unlike most of the cast.
It seems like they've addressed one of Yoshi's biggest issues. I always hated how he would _punch_ with his _sword hand_ - it was so ugly, it looked like they animated him, and THEN decided to give him the sword. The fact he kept stabbing himself in the head with it doesnt help. But I'm not seeing much of that here, it's pretty promising.
Yoshi's design looks so awesome, and MY GOD there's so many people seeming to play a part in the story mode! This is definitely gonna be the best Tekken Story /to date/. I can't wait to see what happens! 🎉 It's actually pretty cool seeing Kazuya have so many allies with him. 😮
This design is definitely the best Yoshimitsu design ever, the blue and red matches the vibes of Tekken 8.. he reached his ultimate form or best version of himself
Yoshimitsu is the title used by the wielder of the sword, but in Tekken that has only ever been one person since the first game. In Soul Calibur it is different Yoshis. You can tell it’s the same Yoshi in Tekken because he’s missing his left hand (the now robotic hand that spins and allows him to helicopter the blade). He lost his hand and had it replaced as early as pre-T2.
If I remember correctly, didn't Yoshi have the helicopter blade move back in SC2 as well? I still have my old GC and one of his costumes clearly has a robotic hand. Idk, maybe multiple Yoshis lost their left hands.
10:22 That Tekken 3 nod tho! If there was any doubt still that the REAL Jin hasn't returned, this solidifies it. The way he puts on his glove with the electricity coming out of it is the same exact way you see it in T3. Mans is on a mission to redeem himself and save everyone again.
Yosh was actually really good in T7 by the end of the game's life. Even Knee thinks he's top 15 and very strong in tournament format. Also, it is the same Yoshimitsu in Tekken every game. He just gets a new suit every game that Dr. B makes for him. The thing about there being different Yoshis is that it's the name the new leader takes when the old one is slain with the sword of the same name. The sword absorbs their soul and grows stronger. In Soul Calibur, there have been two given in SCV, we see Yoshimitsu 2nd.
he has been good for sooo long but people didnt realize it :D same with Feng. Even when Akuma got introduced in Tekken before the nerfs Knee put him at the bottom of his tier list.
@@chiko7547 Season 1 Akuma was a beast and nearly no one was using him. Tekken can get deep enough and knowledge-dependent enough that going all in with some characters can be too much to bother for some pros, especially given the typical roster size being above average.
Yoshi is underrated in T7 but suffers in tier lists from some awful match ups. He has below average pokes and range and his lack of tracking hurts him a lot. Awesome character to play and watch though.
@@Donalob but you can say the same with Akuma. Akuma has some mad weaknesses but hids strengths outshine the weaknesses. Flash in itself is a move that breaks the game.
@@chiko7547 Flash is situational and can be easily baited unless you flash punish and with WS. Very different from Akumas bars and busted pokes/launches. I understand your point though about Akumas not being recognized as OP in S1. Tier lists are subjective, but there's a reason Yoshi is dead last when it comes to win rate. His damage output and risk/reward along with what I mentioned above is just not as good as the rest of the roster. He really struggles opening up turtles because of it. Suicide is crazy good and underrated though as a round ender.
He's human. Harada has confirmed this a few times as well. As mentioned on one of the comments, his left forearm is prosthetic. In Tekken 2 you can see his neck, and his hair. Tekken 4 you can see his neck towards part of his face near his mask. In Tekken 3 you can see around his neck too. In Tekken 8 you can also see part of his neck and of course his fingers, and if you look closely when he does the helicopter sword trick, you can see around his upper arm/arm pit section. It's a man with different battle/armor suits. His disguise can make anyone think of what he may really be. I suppose that's what makes Yoshimitsu so cool and mysterious being that he's a ninja of course :D
The story consistency does essentially ensure that this has been the same Yoshimitsu since 1, especially given the very short timeframe between games barring 2-3, and relying on Bryan, Dr. B and the two Kunimitsus' consistent relationship with him. He specifically changes his armor regularly however as a part of keeping his identity relatively obscured; Dr. B outfitted him with this iteration. The other element being that his left arm is the result of being lost between 1 and 2 and is powered by an engine Dr. B installed. Also other small character trivia and details remain consistent to him across small bonuses if you see 'em, such as T1/2 saying he's a big gamer and T7's celebration image showing he owns a gamer chair in an otherwise traditional Japanese home *Soul Calibur* does have essentially three different Yoshis tho. 1-4's, 5 being explicitly called out as a successor, and 6 being a new timeline.
Yoshimitsu's been the same guy in every Tekken game, he just looks really different in every game. Yoshi's beef with Bryan started in between Tekken 3 and 4 when Dr. Bosconovitch gave Bryan cybernetic implants to save his life, and Bryan repaid that kindness after the procedure by hurting the good doctor and beating the crap out of Yoshi's clan mates.
There is a lineage of Yoshimitsu's. The ones in Tekken and Soul Calibur are different persons from the same clan. The Tekken ones are all the same guy, as you said.
The special intro is his T5 ending. That win pose can be a reference to T6 ending when Azazel's essence get into the sword And the way he blocked the bullets is a DMC 3 Vergil thing XD
Character has a red scarf Max: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! 2:55 What? Tekken 4 he brings Bryan back to his base to get him fix, he gets better and kills them. All of T5 is Yoshi chasing Bryan for that and he's till doing it now. He's also buddy with Boskonovitch who made his robot arm. The only time it's "a title" is in Soul Calibur, where did go to Yoshimitsu II in like SC5. Guessing it's still going till present day, but it's most definitely still one guy in Tekken, just changes suits all the time.
Yoshimitsu says "My sworn enemy" to Bryan, so it's definately the same Yoshimitsu across all games since he swore to avenge the Manji Clan after Bryan massacred it just before the events of Tekken 5. Which is doubly messed up because Bryan was dying and Yoshimitsu saved his life at the end of Tekken 4.
I hope jun actually makes a significant appearance in the story mode. Like kazuya finding out that she's alive and she try to save him because jin doesnt want to
0:58 Yoshimitsu does this in Tekken 2 but forward facing and it isn't as long. I hope Kunimitsu is in this game, used to main Kazuya and her in T2 and TTT (If not Jun who was surprisingly OP) Also this design of him is great, the space hentai tentacle ninja was a bit over the top.
Yoshimitsu is the name of the sword and the title of the leader of the Manji Ninja clan. The one in Tekken is one person and there have been two others, one in SoulCalibur V and another in the rest of the SoulCalibur games. He just gets redesigned each game, like Athena Asamiya.
Yoshi really looks so cool in T8, I really do love that he has some aspects from SC6! The story looks absolutely batshit insane, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how it plays out!
Regarding Yoshimitsu having some Soul Calibur stuff... When I saw his design for this game it evoked some SC vibes for me. Like if his Tekken 3 costume was done in to fit into a Soul Calibur game, it'd look like the Tekken 8 version. I'm looking forward to seeing alternate skins and customisation options for him and other characters, actually. I'd love a super old-school Yoshimitsu with a Hannya mask and stuff, like a Tekken 1/2 type of thing.
Flash technically isn’t a parry, it just comes out lighting fast (in a flash). But the hurtbox is tiny, hence it hit the hitbox of enemy extended limbs like a parry. And it no longer give combo in sword out stance.
If I recall correctly, in response to Max wondering if Yoshi was the same guy or a different guy each game: in Tekken, he's the same man through the whole franchise, but in Soul Calibur it's been 2 at the least.
Yoshimitsu and Strider as well as the Ravens are all different people carrying the same name because it was a ninja tradition and tactic back in the sengoku era. Ninjas pass down their names to increase the mystery and secrecy of their abilities. It made people wonder if these ninjas are actually immortal and can they really shadow clone to have multiples of themselves.
I feel you about the hipster thing. I naturally gravitate towards the less obviously popular characters. I want to add to the variety of the game, even playing less meta or weaker characters just for the sake of it.
I think it’s now save to say that Tekken 8 is going to take the crown from Mortal Kombat 1 & Street fighter 6 at the rate that this is all happening. You can really tell that this is the ‘endgame scenario’ for Tekken, they even make references from the other tekken games. So my question is did Kazuya beat Akuma at the end of T7? And is Jin going to awaken a version of the Satsui no hado during the battle with his father?
I definitely see elements of his Tekken 3 silhouette and Soul Calibur 6 color scheme mixed together. And the red scarf reminds me a lot of Shinobi 2003 for the PS2!
Never played much Tekken tbh, but I play a lot of Soul Cal and Yoshimitsu has always been a favorite of mine ever since SC2. He's more serious now, but I love the whacky stuff he did back then. It's nice to see he's getting more of a spotlight. That said though, Tekken is one of my fave fighting games to watch. Can't wait for T8 to come out and see it make a huge splash in the FGC scene!
The Yoshimitsu title is passed down. So the Yoshimitsu in Soul calibre is not the same as in Tekken. However, the one in the Tekken series, has never changed, it's the same one all the way through. It's just that when he does die, he will pass on the Yoshimitsu title to the next one. But it is always been the same one throughout the series, which is why he has such a strong relationship with Dr B and a dislike for Bryan. It is outfits that's always changing, not the person inside them.
"Tekken infinity war" describes the vibe I'm getting from the story perfectly. And they're doing something I've wanted to see Tekken try for a long time. One big story that integrates all or most of the characters in the roles they'd fit best. A half assed story for every character clearly hasn't been working.
I feel you on the whole Reina thing. I wanted to try her out but since everyone is playing her id rather focus on Jun like I told myself I was gonna do ever since the CNT
I am impressed with English translations of Yoshimitsu's saying which are very simple. Because Yoshimitsu uses old saying and proverb "shin tou mekkyaku 心頭滅却(すれば火もまた涼し)", "sho gyou mujou 諸行無常". There are "lost in translation" things though, but I think they are good translations.
love seeing my boy yoshimitsu look so good with his outfit and combos! also I had no idea that yoshimitsu is a different person every game good to know!
I've been playing the demo non-stop. It is such a fun game, I finally decided that I wanted to learn how to really play tekken and I am able to do electric wind god fists consistently now. This game is gonna be fire when it comes out.
Dude i'm impressed how good the little taste we got of the story and arcade quest has been. Have you tried out the Super Ghost Mode with the developer CPU?
@@NrettG I've been exclusively playing super ghost mode since it is great. Haven't tried them yet since there is no pre-made Jin bot but I plan to soon. Also, playing as DEVIL JIN in the story was incredibly satisfying, he is probably gonna be among my top 3 characters on release day.
@@coolking4715 Dude I was shook that devil jin was even there in the demo. I knew that devil jin would be in the game and saw that he grew the wings during the story trailer but the fact that it's his MOVESET had me hyped. The CPU's for Super Ghost Battle have been super fun. I tried the Asuka bot they had since it was the lowest rank and that put real sweat on me seeing what all is possible in the game. No longer blocking in neutral is KILLING me though.
So, from my old lore i remembered probably wrong, but i remember that Yoshimitsu is the sword and the wearer gets that name, so in Soulcalibur lore thats a different dude. As Tekken is the same timeperiod everytime, it's the same Yoshimitsu in all the Games im sure.
Honestly I'd argue that the in-engine rendering looks even better than cg cutscenes when I played the story mode for the demo. I don't even have a 4k tv to play it on, only a LCD 1080p tv and the in-engine looked INSANELY good
I always find it odd that people say that sword character don't fit into tekken yet yoshi has been their since the beginning so sayings yoshi never fits is like saying Kazuya doesn't fit it wouldn't be tekken with out them
From tekken 2 we found out he was a firefighter and lost his right arm in a fire then dr boskonovitch had him fitted with a cybernetic replacement I'm inclined to think he's been the same man every tekken and was outfitted with parts by boskonovitch with each installment possibly 🤔 The soul calibur version could be an ancestor to tekken's yoshi based on the timeline For all intents and purposes he is still very much Human being
So I'm noticing that Yoshimitsu's playstyle seems a lot more aggressive. Fact that he now can sheathe his sword too to beat you up adds another layer to his 'trickster' status as well. As if him having every stance in the world wasn't already infuriating enough.
When I appreciate about people like lil Majin is that he knows the moves that are going on with the character from knowing the characters in depth and then he also says things about their visual and thematic design from just a pure fan boy perspective.
The lore around Yoshimitsu seems to be working as intended & confusing a lot of fans. Would be nice to see Namco make an action RPG based around him to flesh out his backstory properly. Something like Nioh or Sekiro.
I totally feel the same about popular characters. I see the most used characters and I just can’t bring myself to use them. Can’t use the most popular ones even when they’re awesome
From what I heard, every character in the base roster will have a moment to shine in the main story. So while we will play mostly as Jin and his allies, side characters like Law, Paul, Asuka, etc. will also have their spotlight as well
It's the shame Yoshimitsu each time, he just gets a different armor. You're right about Yoshimitsu being a title though. The last time we saw "human" yoshi was Tekken 2, that's still the most human he's been
I Tekken he is the same man in every game so far as I read and played.Only time there were different Yoshimitsus were in the Soul Series, where the original Yoshimitsu is in. The OG Yoshimitsu was in every SOul game until SoulCalibur V, when the second Yoshimitsu first appeared in his place. At that time it was considered the start of the tradition to slay the previous Yoshimitsu so the next one can take the mantle in order to keep the cirsed Sword, also called Yoshimitsu, from going berserk,. The current Yohimiitsu is the one we see in every game.
Damn I somehow think that the final fight would have both Jin and Kazuya powerless (no devil gene) except being as a Mishima. Maybe they both get cleansed and then fight to death with just their bare fists.
It would be awesome if all the fighters also have English Dub like the Netflix Tekken show and Sol Caliber 6, if Capcom can do it, why not Tekken Project. Imagine hearing Kaiji Tang as Jin or Yongyea as Victor Chevalier.
No one in the chat or in the comments are mentioning the fact that he looks like he has some potential life steal on his blade after he activated something...
Yoshimitsu is actually the same yoshi in every tekken, hence his character maintains all of their rivalries. Soul calibur actually has two different yoshimitsu
I’m a huge Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter fan & I haven’t really properly played Tekken since the 90’s, I’ve played a bit of the demo & really enjoyed it so far. My question for everyone is Tekken really hard to learn? How does it compare to MK & SF which I’ve played my whole life? This game looks amazing & I’m keen to play it!
It's not as difficult as you'd think. The only reason newcomers think it's hard is because button mashing won't help you in Tekken. Pick someone you like and learn some moves, the rest will come naturally 👍🏼
@@MrShahrozzz I don’t think button mashing helps in MK or SF either, but I’m pretty good at those games having played them all my life. Good to hear thanks for the advice really enjoying Jin in the demo so far
I'm not saying that mashing will always make you win, but you got better chances in fighting games that have tatsus/hadokens or teleports/dash moves coz they'll catch the opponent off guard. If you tried that in Tekken the character just stands there doing generic punch/kick 😂 Glad you're enjoying bro, you'll do great 👍🏼
@@MrShahrozzz hshaha ok yeah I get ya lol 😆🤣 yeah it’s really cool game looks sick & plays really fast like an MKX or something, can’t wait for full version.
@@MrShahrozzz hey I did exactly what you said I chose Jin played tutorial on arcade quest & you’re right not hard at all to learn. The game is so awesome loving it, thanks for the advice.
Hey it's the same Yoshimitsu each time. At least since T3. Only the armor changes. Soul calibur had a change from 1 to 2 i believe. The only time there's a change is if one clan member kills the current Yoshi in ritual combat
Ogre being in the trailer makes me hopeful for a DLC character of him. I have the same hipster thing with characters. I was looking really forward to play Baraka in MK1, but I just stopped. However I did play heihachi before as one of my mains, and Reina is super cool. So I hope I remain interested in playing her.
Max In Tekken Yoshimitsu Is The Same Person From Tekken 1 To Tekken 8 He's Sword is Hungry And He Feeds It By Stabbing Himself This Is Most Likely Why He Has A Different Armor/Look In Every Tekken Game
As someone who picked up Tekken because of SoulCalibur, I really appreciate them adding in some SC moves to Tekken Yoshi. It warms my heart to see SoulCal leaking into other aspects of fighting games.
I main paul and feng in every game but this time around everybody looks so fun. I might be splitting focus between at least 6 characters for the first time ever.
The way he holds his sword has, and probably always will, look goofy to me. When he's in his normal stance, just holding it way out in front of him, pointed straight up.
Me and my Brother are big Tekken fans I play Jin he plays Yoshimitsu. we have a deal that we don’t get to play the demo and we don’t get to do any practicing. The first fight of Tekken 8 will be me versus him going in blind only using our years of training from Tekken games
i dont think this Yoshimitsu has passed on the title thats why the sword is going crazy, his time with it is running out before he has to pass it in but Brian killed his whole clan so there's no one to pass it to
