So George, if it was your corner, why weren’t you able to complete the pass? Max was ahead on corner entry, was further ahead at the apex, and pulled further ahead on the exit, which is when George understeered into him. George wasn’t able to catch and pull along side Max until halfway down the straight on the entry to corner 3… after he’d crashed into him at corner 2 and damaged the Red Bull’s side pod.

But Russell was behind at the apex so what is he on about.

The position definitely wasn’t lost for max. He also left enough space for George. But max himself says cold tires, cold tires. He was obviously aware he was taking a risk and George locked up and went hand over hand on the steering to try to avoid contact. They both took a risk and shit happened.

Danny Ric got penalised a few years ago doing exactly what George did...

George did a great job and I'm sure he'd do it again. That's racing.

Here’s the thing, every driver on the grid, including max and Lewis (mentioning both so the fanboys don’t start a war) on multiple occasions, have taken the chance and done an aggressive move to gain a position. This time George is guilty of the move but as long as you’re not blatantly trying to take someone out or completely out braked yourself, just let it happen. Nothing stopping max from doing the same thing to George on another corner

Well, the performance speaks for itself. Not the first time George drove into someone, not the first time a Merc drove into Max, and in the past Max has had his fair share of overly aggressive moves. It's all part of racing. Though Max has hugely matured in the past few years. He picks his fights much much more careful now than in the past. George will eventually learn the same.

Tbh George did post traction in that turn 100%, but when you have cold tires you need to play it a little safer and save the hard racing until the tires have warmed a bit.

We need a BTCC driver in F1 lol they would have put Max that far through the wall he could buy a hot dog from the stand outside the track.

Thing is, I really enjoyed someone taking on Max aggressively the way he always does to others when he’s not in the dominant car. Creates good viewing when guys go at it, George learned from Lewis, you can’t give Max any quarter because he gives you none. 3 terrific drivers, excited to see George in a title contending car some day. Just as Max in Brazil several years ago was lighting it up in the rain and taking everyone driving unbelievably well, or Hamilton annihilating the grid from last to first at Brazil too, you give these guys the tools and after a while of not competing with a dominant car, they really sharpen up their racing skills. Max is enjoying being on the apex right now, car comfortably best by a significant margin, the gap has closed, but he himself isn’t making careless errors either. Dude is pasting Perez. I’m not a fan of Max, but you gotta respect his racecraft and ability and admire a driver and team performing at the top of their game while it lasts, same as Lewis when he was breaking circuit records in his Merc, his best driving came post-Rosberg in 2017, 2018 where Scherzinger wasn’t a distraction, he was motivated to put 2016 behind him, but the car was immensely dominant but he wrung the neck out it to crush his way to his titles, I had to admire it, I am a fan of his, but I’m seeing the same thing with Max now. Guys at their peak, teams and engineers at their peak, harmonising to just deliver so consistently well. The onus is t on top teams making it boring, it’s on other teams to close the gap and get better. F1 has never just been a driver’s sport, it’s really an engineering sport. Who can best interpret the rules and pull resource together to make the best packages, who can develop furthest over the season. I think it’s great that guys like Adrian Newey or James Allison get to celebrate their prowess through the dominance of cars they had massive input on designing, developing and producing. They’re as big a part as the drivers, which is why I hate the,”which driver is best” debates. F1 is a team sport, comparing drivers means nothing when everyone has different preferences for the car they drive, the balance of it, the design characteristics some enjoy handling, others struggle to adapt to. Part of the whole challenge.
