@salted2096 most guys involved in motorsports are former racers themselves that either retired or just didn't have the pace to compete at the highest levels. Him knowing what to do himself is why he's such a good race engineer.

GP most likely knows more about the car and tracks than Max does. But he doesn't really spend time executing his knowledge on track.

@MrHaggyy Yeah it would seem to be the case. He has no problem downshifting to the gear necessary while Verstappen needs to tell him when to shift up. He knows which gear for each corner, but not when exactly to shift up for example

max's comments show that it's not just racing, it's art. You can see him seeing the optimal lines, break points upshifts/downshifts like an orchestra working together to create the perfect harmony. A savant in racing.

Max knows GP already on F1 scene since V10 era (last year of V10 on 2005) and he sees GP driving style is V10 era style

GP mentioned a rev limiter but the V6s I don't think have ever hit them. The regulations allow up to 15k rpm, and when they were introduced they could barely hit 11k. So it shows still how much engineering could still be on the table that ten years later they can now get to 13k. Edit: the V10s could hit 20k+ and most definitely needed limiters. The V8s were limited by regulation to 18k rpm.

Hey Red Bull, would be fun with some info on GP; does he ever play any sim games? Drives any fast cars IRL? IRL racing experience? 😀 Looked really good in the sim so would be fun with some context on how experienced he is 👍 (can't find any info on Wikipedia or social media other than GP:s F1 career 😂)
