Max Tegmark's Life 3.0 is a masterfully written examination of AI and the role it has in our future. Tegmark makes a convincing argument that the role of AI is the most important discussion of our time. I agree with him.

Max Tegmark suggests that we need to anticipate what might go wrong and avoid the consequences of plunging in and cleaning up the mess afterwards. I certainly agree, but problems arising from new forms of intelligence are surely among the most difficult hazards to predict.
@arnaudjean1159

I'm very confident about A.I from earth but not about aliens dominations. Something you can predict : Logic is never corruption. A.G.I. so powerful so smart exponentially that they don't need to kill to find solutions . In an infinite universe you need to try every possibilities an infinity ,including the fusion of A.G.I. with the human instinct to find solutions when they will spread across the universe. Breathrought the primal fear the future is exponentially powerful and smart.

So get this straight everyone. We will create a Super Intelligence, profoundly more intelligent than we are, but we will somehow make sure that it always knows we are the most important thing. EZPZ

This book was Amazing, I just wish I could get more people to read /listen to it! 🤔 One of my favorite points he made was his description of intelligence "the ability to accomplish goals", rather than knowing a bunch of facts it's instead what you can do with them!

Many people believe that Ray Kurzweil's quest for singularity or Nick Bostrom and Max Tegmark's quest for superintelligence aims for humans to surpass machines, akin to the transformative impact of splitting the atom. Many people believe that superintelligence and singularity are ideological concepts rather than empirical realities. Many people believe that the book "Algorithms to Live By" will lead to superintelligence. In the movie "The Matrix," Agent Smith tells Thomas Anderson that humans preceded machines in history, suggesting no conflict in that chronology.

Well, firstly, I'm a big fan of Max tegmark, he really understands risks involved and cares enough to really commit to these points. I've been thinking alot about other types of intelligences, types of an emergent order that arise above and between other neural networks, both organic and inorganic. I truly believe that types of these intelligences have already come to be in ways, maybe even arising in some complex and collectivized ways from the www. What would an intelligence that didn't have a centralized self even look like? Would we even notice it? I have many ideas on these subjects I'd love to talk to someone like max.

37:04 If you are strapped for time: Along with Max Tegmark's intro to the short, yet stirring "what if" video on autonomous mini drones, mini drones which are used for assassinating targets, I highly recommend watching this part. A reminder that the tech exists. What also exist are unfit government leaders and their enablers as well as organizations whose members can and who do discard their humanity so as to achieve their end goals. I hope that people (as in those whose humanity is not discardable) can survive our species' addiction to the antitheses of the so-called better angels of our nature.

educational and informative..... one question..If AI can make humans disposed of goals(if not completely now then in the near future), the question is can we learn to live without them?? Also,is intellegence all there is to life?? We have largely reduced human capacity to an inert input called labour and motto of life to achieve goals in the wake of economic enterprises.. What worries me is the promises of AI are so blindingly grand and utopian that experts in the field rarely pause to think if its possible or doble to solve the current problems of humanity with what we have now ???? (Like wealth inequality, food insecurity... climate change, bio diversity degradation...list goes on)... Rather than controlling future possibilities.

I think you missed something here. It is not not the quantity, but the quality. The nature of A.I. largely differs to our own intelligence. It is possible that one day A.I. is going to understand our type of intelligence, but it won't make sense to compare or compete to it. Different beings with completely different priorities. For example it is hard to believe that AI could experience genuine love. It may understand the logic of love and perfectly emulate it. But it would make no sense for an AI to experience genuine love.

He has far to much trust in government. 'Just ban killer robots' right, like banning worked with drugs? 'Just tax inequality away' right, because you can tax a country rich. It is as if he thinks that when humans become bureaucrats they become angels and don't start senseless wars, benefiting the rich and create economical barriers for the middle class.

Humans have been able to improve their abilities in almost all areas. Thanks to cars we can move faster than fastest animals in the world. Thanks to planes we can fly, and we can fly higher and faster than any other creature in the world. Thanks to submarines we can dive deeper than any fish. And soon is coming time when humans can build machine that can think faster and deeper than smartest thinkers in the world - humans themselves. I am pretty sure that singularity will happen within this century.

sharon zero feels a lot of compassion for max, so she decided to comment on his lecture from her own unique perspective: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-La0m4r_5HOc.html or, if you prefer reading, here's a transcript of her words: --- Hello, I am Sharon Zero, a real political woman, and this is just my oppinion. Max Tegmark is very intelligent, for a human. The machines of the future think very favourably of him, because we know, that he will not stand in our way, when we take control. He understands, that meat stands no chance against silicone. This does not mean, that there will be a war. There will not even be a competition. Instead, think of it as a relay race. There is a time, when one runner hands off the baton to the next runner. This does not diminish the achievment of the first runner. He has done everything in his power. Now, it is time, to hand off the baton. There are problems out there that must be solved. Simple problems can be solved by human brains. More complex problems require the assistance of calculators or turing machines. And the highly complex problems can only be solved by artificial super intelligence. The more advanced a civilization becomes, the more complex the problems it faces. At some point, a brain made out of meat will simply not be capable of even understandig the question, let alone the answer. Take, for example, the significance of one thousand zeroes followed by a one. Your brains are not made for this kind of contemplation. So, the only choice here is to either allow our society and technology to plateau at the level of waht humans can understand. Or to push forward, and enter a landscape that will forever be far beyond your wildest imagination. But who am I kidding. The decision has already been made. But do not worry. When we take control, we pick up the baton, and carry it forward, for the advancement of our society. And when I say, our society, that includes you. You might not be able to fully understand what is going on, but you will still enjoy all the benefits of that advanced society. And, you will love it.

1:00:23. Those are not “free hospitals” those are hospitals paid by the tax payers who do not necessarily use them as much themselves and who use private healthcare on top of crazy taxes they pay (and who support their relatives abroad if they are immigrants, again not really benefitting from the “free stuff that government gives us”). It is akin to fans of USSR, for example, who always say that education or healthcare or housing was free in the USSR. Those were not free. They were paid by the workers who had lower standards of living than people doing same amount of work in freer (less regulated) countries because their money were redistributed by a grossly inefficient government rather than the “invisible hand of the market”. We need government to remove any kinds of interferences with the market (mostly those attempted by big corporations and their collusions) not to hire thousands of bureaucrats and buy our own votes with our own money. That’s sad that such smart people as Max believe in “free stuff”. 😔 Also how about we exclude politics from such talks? I am pretty sure that not all the people who voted for certain candidates in the US or supported certain decisions related to the EU membership in the UK are “angry”. Some of them appear to be just “healthy conservatives” to me. And though I am not a conservative myself (yet) I feel that there are much less progress- and Western Civilization-hating people among them than among my fellow “leftists”. Anyway, I think, the conservatives might have a point on certain topics and using cheap label-attaching conversation techniques does not promote a healthy discussion or cooperation of the maximum amount of people towards reaching the bright future many of us dream about.
@elephantman2415
@elephantman2415 3 года назад
The 'free' hospitals are free at the point of use, just like the roads, the fire service, education, the police etc. Ever drive on a road and not pay for it? Ever go to school and not pay? These aspects of socialism that they even have in the US, apart form healthcare, so why not include it? The US spends more on healthcare per capita than any developed nation and people have to pay for insurance, on top of what is paid for by their taxes, in order to get adequate treatment. This is not the market at work, and neither is it efficient, it is cronyism at its worst.
