Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crash on lap 1 of the British GP at Copse Corner. I own the video and i have the full copyrights of the content - Stephen Bentley. For licensing / permission to use: Contact - licensing@WooGlobe.com
The car doesn't slow down at all in the gravel trap, so it was from 280+ kmh to 0 in the blink of an eye. It's a miracle he didn't have any broken ribs or anything, considering he impacted on the less protected part of the car
Max got lucky there was a tyre barrier to cushion his blow unlike grosjean who literally drive head first into a steel wall while piercing it in the process (if it wasn't for the halo he would have died)
Yeah great video ... even asked the missus if she was alright ... speed and angle make it difficult to see who actually crashed at the time. Sounds like he is ok.
The helicopter footage didnt give a good idea how fast he hit the barrier. It looked like the gravel took most of the energy out of the car and he made a relatively soft impact. But then you see this footage and you realize the gravel really didnt do much and he hit that barrier at an astonishing speed. It's absolutely incredible that he walked out of there. So glad he's okay.
give this guy a job as a camera man at the next race! Perfectly captured, perfect panning during the crash, kept everyone in shot, not phased when pelted by gravel/bits!! Amazing work!!
I wonder if maybe it was a good thing it did, the one alternative might have been for the wheels to catch on the gravel and tumble the car sideways into the fence. That would have been unbelievably bad.
@@alvaro4k On one side having the wheels dig into the gravel would have slowed the car down a lot before the big impact because of the massive graveltrap there (like Alonso's crash in Australia 2016) On the other side you never know what could happen when going in those barriers head first for example
not championship wise... 2020 italian gp, lewis goes thru a red light and enters the pits, honest but minor mistake, equal a stop go penalty for ten seconds (about 30 seconds lost) ... but if you take out ur rival and put him in the hospital, its only 10 seconds which he doesnt have to serve in 3 laps so u can just create a 10 second gap and can still be allowed to win ... i dont understand the precedent this sets for f1
This shot really puts into perspective how dangerous and scary this sport is, is amazing that max can just walk out of that with just bruises and im glad he did.
@Willy Watkins 1. WTF? He has said several times hamilton is an amazing driver. He has complained of his personality, thought. 2. Talent doesnt mean capability of sending someone into a crash. Hamilton is talented but it doesnt have any impact on this impact. 3.Why is #BLM here. I support it but it has nothing to do here.
Imagine how it was for people being front row seats at the daytona finish line when a nascar gets sent flying at the high fence and tumbling into a billion pieces
Yep. I was sat one stand to the right of this and there was no cheering, just shock as we all witnessed a mighty large crash. I looked around others near me and we were all anxious. When Max got out, largely unaided, we all clapped and cheered that he was alive and appeared relatively ok. Nothing to do with the colour of your skin, being English, being a Max or Lewis fanboy. The F1 crowd is simply an F1 sporting fan, and very well informed and mainly egalitarian. I felt proud of how human and as one we were, and sad to read such tripe across social media later.
The people close to and directly at the scene of the accident did not applaud. But jimmy broadbent also criticized it after the race in a live stream from insta that many fans cheered when max flew off.
Yes, it is 'unreal', because that's not what happened. She just get a nervous shock because of the sound and fell over as she was trying to get out of the way.
As the daughter of the woman with the red umbrella, I hate to inform you guys she already had it up and doesn’t actually have incredible reactions 😂 So glad he’s okay and walked out of that-that coming straight at you at that speed is no joke and the guy is incredible ♥️
The guy in front of the woman with the umbrella got a few stones to the head, we all got sprayed a bit to be fair! Was glad max was okay. Visibly dazed but still walking
I heard a woman was taken to hospital due to carbon cuts. Meaning she was technically more injured than a guy getting into a 51G crash, whist sitting still... These cars are amazing.
@@bashkimerkaya2138 Really salty that a crash like this results in Hamilton's "proudest moment" according to himself. Injures multiple people and takes the moral high road after the fact. Still pretty miffed about that one ngl.
This video really shows just how hard he hit the barriers, the aerial shots don't show that as much. So glad Max was able to walk away from this without any injury.
@@maggietemp4770 nope, not way worse. Lauda’s car just catched fire. In that time it was near fatal. Lauda’s crash maybe was 12g if I look at the footage. Max his crash was 51g. A much more sudden stop and much higher speed for Max.
What's most amazing about this is how far we've come in terms of safety. This crash really reminds me of Senna's crash, the sheer speed he hit that barrier and to walk away almost completely OK is insane.
Yep, lots of anti-brit Europeans out there propagating brits cheering a bad crash. You can tell the crowd audio wasn't in sync with the action when it seemed the crowd was cheering Max keeping ahead of Lewis at the end of the Wellington straight.
This is the proof, no cheering for the crash. F1 highlight reel totally gave the wrong impression. There is still hope for decency in British sports fans
Seems to me that the cheering in this video starts because they're just getting their first view of the cars coming around the corner, and it immediately stops as soon as Max starts to spin. I don't think the fans here deserve any of the criticism that's been out there.
Of course they were. I’ve sat at Silverstone many times and it is what you see. A cheer then total shock then relief. Racing fans are probably sat drinking tea not getting slowly inebriated as in another sport I don’t need to mention..
lewis out here risking ppls lives (as this video shows NOT just max was at risk here, he crashed like 20 feet from the fans) just because hes salty hes gonna only win 7 championships in 8 years rather than 8 in 8....sad really.
“The stewards reviewed video and telemetry evidence,” the stewards said. “Cars 33 [Verstappen] and 44 [Hamilton] entered Turn 9 with Car 33 in the lead and Car 44 slightly behind and on the inside. “Car 44 was on a line that did not reach the apex of the corner, with room available to the inside. “When Car 33 turned into the corner, Car 44 did not avoid contact and the left front of Car 44 contacted the right rear of Car 33. Car 44 is judged predominantly at fault.”
Yes the contact was Lewis’s fault but I’m a big Max fan and I believe he is to blame, if Max wasn’t defending so aggressively Lewis wouldn’t have dived up the inside so aggressively. You can’t defend like a mad man and not expect the drivers you’re defending from to use the same aggression and dive up the inside. Max was too aggressive which started a chain reaction of aggressive attack which unfortunately resulted in a accident.
@@stevesteele3312LOL "defending so aggressively" he literally left him the PERFECT inside line. Lewis either couldn't hit the apex or decided not to...
@@stevesteele3312 Come on man, max is not the one to blame if Hamilton have turned to the inside like he should, cause max left a lot of space, we wouldn't be talking about this. Also you don't have to expect for max to give up the lead when he is ahead in the corner in the first lap of a very important race like Silverstone. I've heard some people say max should have done like leclerc just going out and lose the position, but lecrack is not competing for the championship and even the 2nd place was gold for that Ferrari.
Thanks for the upload. There have been so many posts and comments about this incident, people falsely claiming that the British fans cheered when Max crashed. This video is definitive proof that they did not cheer the crash. They were extremely concerned about him. You can hear a slight roar in the background which is the crowd at the rest of the track after seeing the contact... Then it goes quiet as he slides across the gravel. With a concerned "oooooh" upon impact. The sound in the TV coverage was delayed whilst being broadcast, and it gave a misleading account of what happened, as the cheers appeared to be at the same time as the crash. Again thanks for the upload, great vantage point and proof that we did not cheer the crash! 👍🏻
I wish this video continued to prove that we were not cheering he crashed, we were cheering that he got out alive. Lots of people are saying us Brits wanted to see him hurt.
Yes a lot of people were chearing when max got off. And the row behind this shot still did. When max was walking there was a minor applause because otherwise you dont have anywone to beat i guess.
@@vinnai18 you can’t see every part of the track from the grandstands. It’s an exciting race and no one was wishing for Max to get injured, including Hamilton.
People were lambasting the british for cheering and being toxic fans because Max crashed. Its obvious most were just as shocked as anyone, i didnt hear any cheering here, mostly a dismayed groan.
Well you see a phone does not have the ability to have high quality audio. All you can really here is the people next to him and the cars are still passing by. Granted the people there in that section weren't cheering but the rest watching from other ares that didn't get to see the crash right in front of them sounded like monkeys.
Side impacts are among the worst to endure. Whether you're a Max or Lewis fan, you should be grateful that the drivers of the sport we all love are 'relatively' safe in these cars and can put on a show at very high risk for their lives.
Great video, just shows how far the sport has come into making it safe for the drivers and fans,a few decades ago, such a crash would have been fatal for the driver, and a few spectators
Yup, instinct Made some of them cheer, because that’s just normal to do so. But then they realized it’s a bit more serious and they cheered when he got out
'Its better to watch it on TV anyway, when you're there you miss 70% of the GP and only see the cars for split second!' There are memories to be made trackside. Stuff that stays with you for life.
HOLY SHIT. All those slow motions don't capture the real impact of this crash. My god am I glad Max is alright. What a desaster Hamilton didn't even apologize!
Even at speed 0,25 it still looks horrific. Thanks to the FIA for the safety on tracks and in the cars ! Have a good time all and see you at the Hungaroring !! ❤
All those years of watching F1 and this is one of the few times I've seen the massive forces involved in the sport demonstrated so dramatically. No wonder around 50g's of deceleration were registered.
It’s actually quite amazing how it goes from cheering (as Hamilton battles for the lead) to quickly becoming worried when Verstappen hits the barrier. Honestly, I also don’t see any fans there not clapping when Verstappen got out the car in other videos so I don’t think it’s as toxic as some people said it was.
Some other vids show some fans cheering. Not all of them were and most of them were worried about him but of course it’s always the ones that act out that get the most attention.
most of the toxicity is on youtube. fans that are willing to spend the money and time/travel on a ticket and the weekend are usually long time fans who have seen a bit more and know better that its not all black and white. Ofc there is also some idiots. just smaller percentage.
They prob did, then they realized hey hard the crash was so they hoped he was okay and then the cheers for him bc he is okay. But it was only natural for them to feel happy Max was going off.
They didn't cheer in this particular section because they were close and could see just how brutal it was, and were also concerned about the flying gravel. A natural instinctual reaction. The other sections that were not in any kind of a danger zone cheered. Get your head out of your ass.
@@THEMONEGASQUE There’s other footage taken from the the spectator sections to the right of this shot. They weren’t in any danger. Also didn’t cheer. Exclamation of “Ooo” sounds similar to a cheer
Ok... and!? Are you saying the fans wanted max injured or badly hurt. That's a stupid comment. No one in any sport wishes bad on another athlete to the extent that max was.
The race had more or less just started the excitement cheers was for that. Nobody would intentionally cheer a crash. The crowds in shock if anything, you can hear people start saying come on Max in hope he was ok once the realization hit of what happened. Stop thinking everyone is a c*nt.
