Safety car was deployed in lap 11 to clear debris on track caused by Charles Leclerc , Verstappen pitted from P3 for a hard tyre but Lewis Hamilton pitted for a medium tyre from P1. Verstappen came out P2 as he had a faster pitstop than Valtteri Bottas but later was hit with a 5 second time penalty for unsafe release. The decision taken by Mercedes to go till the end on much softer tyres turned out to be the wrong decision and hence, Max Verstappen was trying to Overtake Lewis Hamilton the whole race on much better tyres and the closest he ever got was lap 76, where they made contact.
