If you weren't alive during the Vietnam War you may not understand why this Republican farmer who lent his farmland to the organizers after they were screwed over by their original site owners, is so important. His farm gave(not sold) milk and yogurt to the crowd because they had no food left. Max Yasgur would be a welcome change in 2020.
Lots of people just like that living in little old Bethel, New York to this day. Some of them descendents of Mr. Yasgur himself. If you ever get the chance to visit the Bethel Woods center, do yourself a favor and check out some of the surrounding little towns.
I was impressed when the crowd applauded after Mr. Yasgur identified himself as a farmer. As guests on his property, they showed him the respect he earned not only for agreeing to provide space and assistance to hundreds of thousands of strangers but also for feeding people through his chosen and honourable vocation. More than 50 years later, his heartful words resonants as much today as they did then. God Bless You, sir.
One man said yes....yes you can hold your event here. One of the most important events of all time occured because one man said yes. We are eternally blessed that a humble dairy farmer said "Yes".
I’m a Canadian conservative. Many of us are soft and humble people in reality. Don’t believe everything you hear. I’m a farmer in Saskatchewan. We are just simple, hard working people helping to feed a hungry world. We just get mad when people start fucking around with our livelihood.
What a saint of a soul. We can all take something from him . Before 10 years before my time or I woulda been there. Is there anything in the Hall of Fame substantial for him? In my eyes, he did more for the music than most ever did . God bless you Max !
Wow! Awesome! May his soul rest in peace with the knowledge that he was loved, respected and appreciated by many, despite what his townspeople thought of him, or how they treated him. He proved what it was like to be a good human being, a humanitarian, & how to just be decent to other people. God bless him for that.
i have never heard one bad thing about Max. from all accounts a very nice person, and it comes across in this un rehearsed speech, you can tell when someone is being honest and sincere, and that is what is evident here. thanx max !!!
Dude was a saint. Because you know that property was trampled/trashed, at least for a year or two. It's awesome he cared enough to help those guys out, just because he thought it was a cool idea all the kids getting together. The local community really stepped up big when you know they were scared shitless when all those freaky people showed up!
Unfortunately the community turned against him after the concert. He and his family were pretty much persona non grata. Sadly he sold his farm two years later and died in 73.

He was one of the most successful dairy farmers in NY so he was also a sophisticated businessperson. This isn't bad, it's actually very good fortune - that someone who had the skill and experience and willingness (and land) to help the organizers make this possible was an amazing piece of luck.
I like how he tried to put down a safety net by telling people he doesn't know how to talk to a lot of people but then we find out he never needed a net his speech was brilliant
Watching this in the past I thought he threw up a peace sign at the end, but now I realize he was missing half a hand! Unfortunately pretty common among farmers.
the republican voters do not want fascism(which is authoritarian, state run everything, and suppression of opposition) Democrat voters do. Wikipedia call it far right, but it's the actions of the far left
"Old school Republican" would include me and most of my many Republican friends and relatives who are largely libertarian in nature. We believe in the Constitution, which usually means less Federal and State control over individuals and what they do. Part of the reason Max Yasgur had the Woodstock concert on his land was he saw it as a freedom of speech issue. Even though he and the concert goers differed in their views and style of expression, he wanted to help bridge the generation gap by giving the concert a venue. Yes, he was paid $10,000 for the use of the land, but it got more destroyed than he or the organizers had ever planned. He ended up getting money from an insurance company for some of the damages. Still, he had no regrets about hosting the concert.
I’m a Canadian conservative farmer from a long line of true blue conservative farmers. My family escaped fascism and communism in Germany. True Conservatives are neither fascists nor communists. We truly believe in freedom, hard work, small government, and low taxes. Don’t believe everything you hear in MSM. Most of us Conservatives are not some bad boogeyman.
