In this video I put these budget anvils from Vevor to the test! I want to see if these cost effective anvils could withstand the pressures of blacksmithing. I can confidently say that either anvil would be a great starting point for any new smith as they start their forging journey, without breaking the bank.

Great video, I have the 60 Vevor. They made it possible to get a great product to get into the hobby without breaking the bank. I would not hesitate to purchase it again.

I have the 60# version and I absolutely love it. It’s perfect for taking to shows and moving around the portable shop. Once I get to where I can setup a permanent shop, I’ll get a bigger version. Thank you for the review

Do you feel like the 60lbs one is sufficient for just making knives? I’m wanting to get into bladesmithing. I don’t really have any interest in making big swords or blades, just knives.

@Max_Randolph_Studios I know zero about blacksmithing so I really appreciated you walking through some of the details about the anvil and adding context as to why that feature is important, why you need to remove the paint/round the edges etc.. I felt like I walked away having been entertained and having learned something. That all being said, reviews that are similar in nature. Reviews that give a peak behind the curtain to see how/what you think when you're going through your process of selection/creation.

The acciaio seem fairly decent. I mean, a few things I'd change on them but for the price no complaints. The only way to beat them for a starter is very good luck to get a used one cheap somehow.

So is there any difference in anvils needed if someone mostly wanted to work copper vs iron? Can an avil be too hard or too large to work with a project?
@Max_Randolph_Studios
@Max_Randolph_Studios 3 месяца назад
Great question! There’s no hardness or style limitations you need to worry about between iron and copper work. The most important quality an anvil can have, is your access to one! 👍

How do i bend a 12mm x 40mm x 380.5mm i need to put two bends about 50mm apart and i don't have access to a torch i have a gas forge and a machinist vice on a chipboard bench I'm trying to bend to make a post vice bracket and im not to confident that i could forge weld three separate pieces of steel together and my stick welder would not cope with the thickness if i forge weld do i need to add additional material for shrinkage due to the welding process any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
@Max_Randolph_Studios
@Max_Randolph_Studios 11 месяцев назад
This is a great question, you can achieve a really nice and precise bend while using your gas forge. Mark the bend location, heat the area, then quickly cool the surrounding material with water, then make your nice crisp bend in your Vice. I hope this helps!

Have you tried sanding off the rest of the paint because i have seen some blacksmiths do so and the anvils have cracks,chips and dents in under the thick paint. Ps could you do another video to see if this be true and the paint isn't there to hide anything.

Hi Max, I’m a farrier getting into hot shoeing. I’m selling my anvil as it doesn’t have a round horn. I can’t quite tell from the pictures and videos. I’ve seen. Is this a true round horned anvil?
