Maestro Maxim... He's got a beautiful soul. He so wants to share his music and it shows. He doesn't play like this anymore after his shoulder injury and surgery but his sound, to me, has become mature and has aged like fine wine. He's my favourite violinist. VENGEROV is one of the most extraordinary violinists ever, on a par with a Paganini. And I have heard both Heifetz & Isaac Stern, and love their Huge Gifts, but Vengerov is something else entirely... I've noticed for a long time that you can tell how good someone will get by how they respond to someone better than themselves. If they are jealous or feel like giving up then they get nowhere. If instead they think "You can do it - maybe I can too" they often get to great heights.

LOL

I am a self-taught amateur violinist--just average but have tried very hard. I play mainly by ear--just light pieces. I have benefited immensely from this. Maxim is seriously funny--I like his relaxed and playful teaching method--after all, music is meant to be fun. I had the good fortune to meet Ruggiero Ricci and had 3 meals with him in 1999 in Malaysia--he was a gentle, affable and humble man--it was the highpoint of my musical experience. Now I live in Melbourne which has lots of good music.
