I am nearly 74…I go to the gym for 1.30 hours every day…I do cable machines, Dumbbells, smith machine, push ups…I feel better now than I did at 50…NEVER GIVE UP…🇦🇺🇦🇺👍
Amazing I am 70 and can only do one clean pull up and 20 clean push ups.....maybe someday when i grow up Ill do this routine...btw most 20 or 30yr old's cannot do this!!...you deserve great respect for honoring the temple God gave you!!! inspiring.
@@maddog3768 Just because you're fat and inactive doesn't mean you can feel good talking about a fit, disciplined person dying of old age or other causes. Go visit the park and do your pullups 🤣
Very motivating! I am a 57 year-old Japanese. After watching this video, I went to gym and tried to do it. The result was 60 pull-ups and 130 push-ups. However, after 31 pull-ups (10, 8, 6, 4, 3) and 95 push-ups (30, 15, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10), I could only repeat a set of 2 pull-ups and 5 push-ups at a time, which is relatively easy to continue many times. I think I should have set a limit that less than 3 pull-ups or 10 push-ups at one time should be the end of this trial.
Very good but you did not do them right. Although, what you did it still excellent, you were supposed to go pull-ups 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, etc And push ups 15, 14, 13, 12, etc You did 10, 8, 6, etc pull ups. This is much easier and I mean by a lot. You skipped 9 and 7. And also, how long did you rest between sets? Bottom line is you skipped doing 9 pull ups and 7 pull ups
@@60-Is-The-New-30 You are absolutely right. It is much easier to skip some steps. In addition, I could not do more than 8 pull-ups at the second round. So, if 9 pullups are required, my record would have only been 18 pullups and 30 pushups. I will try one more time some time later. But I will probably need one week rest and some more weeks of practice.
@@kenbudapest hey don't sweat it. It's not a big deal. If you already did what you did, you will get what I did above in a couple of weeks. All the best to you!!!
@@m.s.g1890 Thank you. But doing the pull-ups 10 times, then only 8, and then only 6, etc., is much easier than doing 10, 9, 8, … I have tried to do it several times so far. But all unsuccessful. I will continue practicing it.
Wow. Dude can dude sets of strict pull-ups at 60. What an inspiration! I’m 54 and used to be able to do 3x10 strict pull-ups. Now I’m at 10x3 strict. Of course I’m 60 lbs overweight right now. Can’t wait to get back to doing sets of 10!
You must be a marine. No way I can do this. I am 52 yrs old, I train hard but this is something else. My dad was (is) a marine, he raised me with discipline and physical exercise. I am very thankful for that, because you have profit from it in all facts of life. He probably could do this in his 20, 30, 40, 50's. Respect.
Thank you very much Toney for being a great inspiration to us, I am 58 years I am fit, energetic and very strong, but I really struggle a lot with pullups I cant even do 10 pullups, but after watching you doing both pushups and pullups, I feel very motivated by you, as from now onwards I will definitely challenge my upper body workout 3 to 5 times a week.
That is seriously good shit unlike most RU-vid fitness channels who just talk about it you actually do it, massive respect. Not a problem with you just talking about training but you can obviously do the business.
Impressive workout routine! I also appreciate the detailed written explanation. BTW, I only recently came across your RU-vid channel. Awesome neuromuscular training video clips! You are on to something good!
Awesome shape ! I'm 60 y/o used to love doing pull ups until I developed pain in my right shoulder. I went to my Orthorpedic MRI revealed a slight tear in my right rotator cuff due to over working the muscle. I focus now on stretching yoga, pilates, push ups, machine weights, spin and group class.
Very impressive. You're in great shape. I'm 73 but have been concentrating on building strength for the bench press (closing in on 315 lbs). But that necessitates some body weight, which is more difficult to haul up for pull-ups. And shedding bodyweight generally means losing raw strength. I think that after (if) I reach the 315, I'll consider aiming more for your kind of thing: healthy conditioning, which I'm sure is -- in the long run -- is more beneficial to an old body. Either way, whatever anyone is trying to accomplish, discipline is everything. And I can tell you that the older you get, the more that energy becomes a problem.
I'm a female in my late 60s, and I've been doing this routine twice a week for the last six months, except I can only do half his volume. But, at least I make sure my chest touches the floor when I do my pushups for full range of motion. It's made a big difference in my strength gains and physique.
Oh ok. Thank you. Damn, I must obey the laws of the critics. Ok, I'll delete the video because you touched your chest to the floor. And by the way, good for you on your accomplishment. Have a wonderful day
@@60-Is-The-New-30 Wow, why so sensitive? I upvoted your video, that means I liked it. There was no need to get butt hurt just because I said my chest touched the floor. I do it because it contributes to muscle hypertrophy. I'm leaving my upvote. Go ahead and delete your video if it makes you feel better. You're old, but you're not mature.
I'm 67 years old and I do a pyramid workout with pull ups and push ups. So it will start with 1 pull up 2 push ups 2 pull ups 4 push ups all the way up to 5 and 10 and then back down. So up the pyramid and down the pyramid. I do this wearing 30lb weighted vest. I only take breaks when absolutely needed but workout does take a little while.
Thank you Tony. I’m a 72 yr woman, reasonably fit, but have range of motion problems in hips for years. I ran into your site and was fascinated with the loss of fast twitch muscles in age. I’m inspired and working every day trying to get fast twitching in better shape. Do a variety of movements (after watching you). Can a person regain fast twitch muscle tone by movements over time ( or am I shit out of luck?) I love that you are working in the park!!
Hi. You cannot regain the loss of fast twitch muscle fibers. They are controlled by fast motor units. Once these motor units are lost there is no getting them back. And this to me is what longevity experts are ignoring. There will never be age reversal or even slowing of the aging process UNLESS THESE MOTOR UNITS ARE MAINTAINED STARTING EARLIER IN LIFE!!!!! However, you can help with the ones you have left by doing the right exercises, such as plyometrics. But you must start slow or seek a professional trainer to help you with this
Just came across your channel and it is a relieve that I´m on the right path. I will be 68 end of July and have a very active life style, I walk every morning anywhere from 4 to 6 miles and do a 100 burpees before I go to work and do some other type of exercises. God Bless.
Hi. Thank you for visiting my channel. You have a good routine. The burpees are the best part for your age because they build fast twitch fibers. Keep it going. Never stop!!!!
Wow that is impressive. Gonna try and work up to this with my new pull up bar. Im 46, can do loads of push ups but the pull ups destroy me. Never thought of alternatiting the two exercises like this before. Thank you 🙏
I'm doing it similar. I do 2 sets of 2 exercises. First i start with Rack Dips using the Mike Mentzer method. W/o break, I do dips on rings. A minute break. Then pulls ups wide and close. Second set is with a weight belt, to achieve ultimate muscle failure. It works very well for me, and results are coming pretty quick though. I'm never going in a gym anymore. The whole workout is just 25-30 min long. 💪 I'm 47 soon.
I’m 887 years old and last week I lost 98 pounds running 300 miles ever five minutes. Thanks so much for the advice and I’m sure you all have great interests in my personal stats.
You looks awesome, I am 51 trying to get to your level. Had waist 41.5 inches in November 2023 and today, 35 inches. I will need to loose another 5 lbs. to be there. I like the push and pull.
It's fine to do it as you do it. But your body gets used to the same exercises over and over. This is why I do this routine and numerous others. Shock and confuse the muscles you'll get better results. I'll be posting other routines I do soon
I’m 63 and a couple weeks ago started higher rep workouts similar to this. I did total 160 pushups and 160 squats this morning. Physically capable of more but my weak mind shut things down. Those are some badass pull-ups. I am doing as in the comments more pull-ups during the day to get the reps up. Borderline injury doing them and I am going to high rep with resistance band to get form and muscles better engaged. Again, gotta say nice freaking pull-ups you got happening there.
55 here and some stress earlier in my life makes things mentally hard. But what can we do, just keep going, it kind of pays off in the long run. Bodyweight excercises at home or anywhere takes away all that fuss about going to a gym.
Want to hear my opinion? Do not do pull ups during the entire day. Also when you do them just do half of you max. In other words if you can do ten pull ups, do 5 sets ot up to ten setsv if you can handle it but only do 5 reps for each set, Do them explosevily, all the way down and try to touch your chest to the bar on your way up. DO THEM AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
@@60-Is-The-New-30 Right, doing something every now and then to exercise a certain hard move can be effective but a real hard pull set done in the morning and then another one at lunch and a third one at night might be contra productive due to that we need that protein synthesis to grow and stay on, not to be pushed down again the same day. So 3 sets after each other is better that way, or what do you think of that?
Excellent point. What I do is work out different body parts throughout the day Actually I work out 4 times per day. My last workout is always a stretching routine before bed. My workouts ordinary last 30 to 49 minutes each
Hats off to you fella. I’m 62 and going to try this today at the gym. I can only do 7 good form pull ups so will start at 7 & work down. The press ups I’m ok on, so will be from 15 down like you. I’ll post the outcome......
So, I worked down from my 7 pull ups but could only repeat 4 times. When it came to the 3 reps I was done. This was hard but made harder without my usual 2/3 minutes rest in between & incorporating the press ups. I carried on with 3 sets of 10 elevated pike press ups but could not cleanly do any more pull ups! Will work on this & maybe take 20/30 secs rest initially, reducing as I improve.
That´s it - the end of the endless search for the perfect routine! You are the role model everybody should be looking for. Many thanks and much respect!
Hey Tony, I like this workout, it reminds me when we were kids competing with each other. I have a very bad knee, so I can't jump around like you do, but I'm going to give this work out a shot. Thanks for this.
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. This is exactly where I created this routine. When I was much younger, competing with my friends in the park. Go for it!!!
Great routine and great form. There are similar like Cindy Wod [5 pulls, 10 push ups and 15 squats on the minute every minute for 20 minutes] which are also good. Will try it!
Remember guys, he started this routine a long time ago. if you are 60, and start now it will probably take you 2 yeas to achieve this workout. As you get older, over 60, it becomes almost impossible to achieve this. of course you should get as fit as you possibly can, but you must think about how much muscle you need and for your life style as to maintain this level, it gets harder as you get much older. you can obtain a very high level of fitness with simple calisthenics and a martial art.
Thank you for this feedback, and you are correct there. These exercises are no about power though, but more endurance style. People lose power as they age. They lose fast twitch fibers, but not the slow twitch fibers, which are endurance based. So, as long as the man is not overweight or has extremely long arms, or is a muscular person that weighs over 200 lbs, he can achieve this workout with proper training. But you are correct. It would take a long time. Thank you for this feedback.
Well done Tony, I see with that routine you don't need to use weights your body is the weight, makes me want to up my game and master them pull-ups, at the moment they are my weakness. Paul.
Hi Paul. Thank you. Pull ups get much harder as you age, especially doing them correctly, due to lost your power, strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the shoulders Try your best to do even a couple and increase from there. All the best
We used to call something similar "ladders", we would start at one, then two then three etc, until some ladder number then start going back down. So a ladder to ten would have a single set of ten in the middle of two sets each of one through nine. It's 100 to do a ladder of ten.
Awesome! A push and a pull. Antagonist muscles working. Arnold would do that, with weight of course and not as many reps as you do here. You say one set? No wonder. That is a MONSTER set.
Just got back into ketosis after carb cheat weekend last weekend did my push-ups to fail 42 plus ab workout total push-ups 100. Going mtn biking tomorrow but will do my max pull-up workout on Monday, next week will try your workout at 58 years young. Nice job.
You are by far the most grounded source of information and inspiration on the internet for those past 60+. Question: Life has been tough of late. Moved back to take care of very ill mother. Finances are low. Very low. I know protein is key but I can't afford 5 meals a day. I am 205 and want to get to 160 again. Suggestions? (serious question)
@sovereignbrother very well. The cheapest and best protein sources are: 1. Tuna in water 2. Sardines in water 3. SKYR Yogurt 4. Quark (non fat) but I'm not sure if you'll find it there 5. Pollack Fish (you can find it in the frozen section of supermarkets like Lidl, Aldi, etc These are the cheapest and best quality protein sources you will find. However,, I don't know how much egg white cartons cost there. They are excellent also
@@60-Is-The-New-30 What;s interesting is how ADDICTED to FAT I've become whereas I find it hard to eat sources of protein without fat in them...i.e. Tuna and Mayo. But I will overcome that. Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Boom i respect your workout and you for being able to perform it im 60 this year but focus on natural body building and bag work we are all trying to keep these old Engines running sweet
Great workout. Our bootcamp instructor at our local gym put us through a similar workout last week-- Run 1 mile, do 100 pull ups, 200 push-ups and 300 air squats then finish with a mile. See how quickly you can finish. It was brutal. Have you ever done this one?
Hey I am Longevity, what if you have leg problems. How would you exercise? Doing weights is fine, but cardio with stiff leg problems. Is propiocity exercise the Way? Thanks Dude.
I have the same…thinking maybe I’m carrying to much body weight for my age but I’m not really fat or obese…has been a life of weights for me and to lazy to do cardio…I’m paying now at 65.
Rucking, the weight flys off but I'm interested in How to make legs dynamic again when really your legs have gone. Is there a way back? I heard cycling for 15 minutes at 60 % can grow cartilage in knees.
Awesome - truly inspirational. Love the veins over the arms and chest. Just seen another video from you - What I eat in a day.... Go there now. 1st time here on your channel - and it warrants subscribing. Have a great day.
