You know you’ve made it when the manufacturers are kicking boxes out of the back of their trucks on your driveway. Congratulations on your success brother and keep the videos coming.
It would be interesting to know which shipper it was. I place my bets on FedEx. I've had absolutely horrid experiences with them, and anytime I realize something I bought is being handled by them, I grit my teeth.
You have compared these two generators by their sizes Hona is a generator but the little guy is a crap and is going to break down in a weak or the most in a month thE Honda is going to stay generating power for life time
Very impressive inverter and it doesn't cost and arm and a leg! The features it has are very useful not a lot of blink just functional. Thanks James. Ed
I wish i would have known about adjusting the choke when new, I can guarantee we sent some units back to the manufacturer for that very reason when i worked in a small engine shop.
Nice video Jim, to the point and no extra like some reviewers do. Since you are likely to have this for awhile, perhaps you can to power your RV for awhile to exercise your a/c and appliances and give us an update after say 50-100 hours to show quality, oil consumption and fuel used based on load.
Take car mates, I was contacted directly on Telegraph by someone claiming to be James Condon, saying I had won a Generator and asking me to send $200 to ship it to me. I have spoken to James about it. Bob UK
Looks interesting. What about service parts? I have a 30 yo Honda EM5000 I love, and one great part is I can still get parts for it. The lack of service parts is what makes me cautious of brands like this one.
Usually the engines are Honda clone so there is a lot of parts interchangeability with Hondas and other Honda clones. Other parts may be harder to source but if you look closely there are usually other identical generators sold under different names (sometimes the color will differ) so maybe you'll be able to get parts that way in the (likely) event that MAXPEEDINGRODS is not around 30 years from now. I don't expect this generator to be running in 30 years anyway.
Ahh, another rebadged Chinese inverter gen set. The same brand Harbor Freight rebrands as Predator is the same manufacturer as this unit for this company.
Wow electric start as well. Way better for the damaged shoulder then recoil. I converted my low wattage Champion for just that reason. Sucks getting old. Thanks James
Awesome stuff James! When you test the output power on the o-scope, the waveform is important obviously, but since its an inverter, need to see how much RFI/Conducted Interference is present. So if an AM radio sounds like a buzz saw, thats poor filtering on the output, you can also see this interference by using the FFT function on your o-scope! Looking forward to part two!!!
@@A_Man_In_His_Van the frequency band just happens to be the operating range of the MOSFETs in the inverter, 500kz to 1700khz is the fu range but typically the RFI hash is in the lower AM band
@@Bassguitarist1985 Everything interferes with AM radio, I ran across a new Ford Explorer that was interfering with the AM radio in my truck. It'd be nice if modern electronics didn't interfere with things at all but we don't live in such a world. The best we got is a FCC requirement that electronics be able to tolerate interference.
I have watched you evaluate electrical power by connecting an oscilloscope to the generator. I know this is a tricky procedure, so, PLEASE SHOW US how connect an oscilloscope to the generator in a video. Thanks, I really enjoy learning from your videos. Mogulsmoke
How hard is it to change starters on this thing? Because is my Fireman 3200 you need to disassemble ALL of it in order to remove the starter :( How serviceable is it?
I know Maxpeedingrods, as well as other brands, didn't have a R&D department design a custom/unique generator model and have parts manufacturers build custom parts just for their generator. So I wonder which brands are sharing what? And who are the real designers and manufacturers of these components that are assembled into "Your brand here" generators. For example, the inverter module of this generator surely isn't custom made by and for Maxspeedingrods so who makes it and what other generators use the exact same module where you could swap between the two without much fuss?
That looks like a good quality generator. you know you are reaching a lot of people and you do a real good job of putting your videos together when these manufactures give you products to test.
I 100% agree with your break-in oil recommendations. Iv'e been doing that for many years. I have many engines around the homestead I bought new years ago and they all act like new.
As for break-in period and actually, general operation, does anyone make a replacement oil plug/cap that has a magnet SECURELY attached that would stick down into the oil and attract tiny metal "dust" that normally happens during operation? I know some (perhaps all) cars have a magnet down in the oil pan, I think it is. And if no one makes that, what's your opinion on someone making a DIY version for their machines, BUT MAKING SURE THAT THE MAGNET and shaft (if shaft used) are completely secured and can't fall off inside the motor. Just wondering.
James I love your program, I am at 85 now unlikely to ever really make use of your teaching. BUT I've always had an interest in motors big and small. Now my question. What's the advantages and disadvantages of having an inverter genset? A program on this subject be interesting for many.
Two things I really like from this initial look... (1) the extendable handle so you can roll it like a wheelbarrow; my Predator 3500 has four fixed wheels and you might as well just be skidding it on the ground and (2) the SAE connector on the battery cables inside the oil door. This makes it super easy to plug in a Battery Tender for storage maintenance. And the one thing I don't like, the NAME. First place to "Maxpeedingrods" for the worst Chinese made-up product name! 😂
With your Predator generator can you find much larger wheels to put on the axles? Also can you fit the folding handle (the one that you find on most generators so you can lift the end of the generator to maneouvre it easily with the 2 wheels on the handle end of the gen momentarily raised off the ground?
What advice do you have for someone buying their first non-honda (ie chinese clone) inverter generator? Some people run then for a few thousand hours without issue, while others are unable to start at 50 hours even if all maintenance is followed. I just don't want a few thousand dollar paper weight. Also, any thoughts on converting to propane with a snokel kit? Any long term issues?
It’s nice seeing smaller inverter generators coming with 240v, now you can backup your house with clean power. I have 2 questions. Is it a floating neutral? And when you were looking at the choke on the carb, I noticed a white filter looking material. Was that a “cabin air filter” type setup? Love the videos! Thanks
The amount of information the display gives is sweet Very nice I would totally buy one of these if I needed one only thing I can think of I would need a generator for is using my welders with more portability
Dependability and longevity are always my concerns for an emergency generator. Honda has a good track record but the cost of this one is attractive. One usually gets what they pay for.
WELL YOU HAVE YOUR OPINION, AND I HAVE MINE...NEVER add oil to the top end of a new engine....it was lubed when they assembled...and could bend the rod from a hydro-lock.... Just wrong wrong....Yeah I know, you only like fans that praise you....
When Jmaes bumped the starter the engine turned over and the piston redistributed the oil inside the cylinder on the bore, down onto the rings etc. There was not enough to hydrolock it after that redistribution......
This looks a LOT like my WEN 3400 watt inverter down to how the oul drain is set up.I wonder if max peeding rods uses the same Chinese company to build them.
Good review! Still.....Not going to get rid of my EU6500 and smaller EU2000/2200 units. Honda's legendary quality and parts availability are more important to me than saving a few bucks.
Sorry Jim but it looks like you are turning into an infomercial for free stuff. That's a shame because I see it happening in more content providers everyday on RU-vid. Don't you get it ? We became your subs because we liked what you were doing not what you are helping selling! Sorry but I have to un-sub and I hope enough other people follow to get you and other content creaters to stop selling. If we want reviews we can google them or search for content providers who do nothing but reviews! Take care!
James is helping MORE people by honestly and impartially reviewing products which are now on the market and may be attractive to the eye.... but may not have the performance or longevity... therefore would in say 5 years... make them suitable for James' other forte... repair vids.... but which make a buyer now go "No, that's not a good enough product...I will spend my hard earned money on another brand of generator"
Oh goodie! Are we going to get to see a short clip of it getting pushed off the back of the truck? I enjoy those videos of misbehaving delivery guys throwing TV's and stuff over fences and gates.
James, great unboxing video. This unit appears to be MUCH better quality than that other one. It's funny, I have the same Honda EU6500, which I bought years ago, when it was really the only 120/240V Inverter gen on the market. It's a beautiful machine. Amazingly, in the last 2 years, the 120/240V larger inverter gen market has exploded with new products, including 120/240V inverter gens with dual fuel. Amazing.
You must have the same freight delivery driver I had. 12000 BTU AC/heat pump unit. Met the driver on the street. He opened the back door and I noticed my unit had been stacked on top of other freight and fell over during the drive because it was not secured. I had to take the unit apart and straighten the cabinet metal. Only took delivery because it's been 107 degrees and couldn't wait on another.
I am sure the manufacturer loved hearing that some Lazy knucklehead just dropped it off his tailgate in front of your garage. It's really nice to see you get the respect of the manufacturers for you to do these reviews it's a win for all!
Thanks for the clear and concise review! I've learned a great deal from your weekly videos! Question: I have a 12,000 watt DuroMax (XPH) through a transfer switch as a house backup..but it's way too loud. I would like to change to an inverter, but I'm not sure how to determine the total wattage being supplied by the generator to the house.... trying to add up the wattage requirements of each appliance is not going to be accurate; so is there a way to directly measure how much wattage the generator is putting out (through the 240v outlet to the transfer switch) in real time? Many Thanks!
Yes, i have the same setup. I put a a volt and amp meter on each 120v leg coming from the generator and feeding my panel so i can meaire the draw. Also make sure to balance your circuits so that 2 refrigerators are notnon the same 120v leg.
@@x01e Thanks for your reply. In my setup a single cord plugs into the 240V/30amp outlet and goes directly to the transfer switch....so I'm not sure how to measure the total wattage draw coming out of the generator...perhaps I'm missing something?
*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*
My neighbor own the same brand generator but smaller than this model. 3500W I think. Quiet and efficient. This market seems to have more and more options.
I wish I knew that you must put some oil on the cylinder head the first time, I didn't do that with my eu3000is , I did everything else though, specially the first oil change after 3 hours, you got the eu6500is !! That is a monster generator, it costs like a car here xD, is that injection like the 7500?, Awesome machine!, The unit you've just review is nice, but I don't like the combo knob , I prefer separate controls for gas , choke and start
I'd be really interested in this if I didn't have all my stuff already set up and everything that could blow up had a chance to do so. Might still be interested for my wife's sake when something happens to me but it'll have to be up to the son-in-law to get even that rig going. Thanks Pal and God Bless!
Bought a Suntom deisel 6500 genny and it took 5 oil changes over a 10hr run before I stopped seeing swarf in the oil, been a cracking genny otherwise, although I know lots of folks had issues with the Suntom ones but then if there was the amount of swarf kicking about in the block its no wonder most died prematurely.
With the great heat now present in many areas...the grass needs to be left longer to alleviate stress on the plant and to reduce the need for watering it.
Great reviews, the Maxpeedingrods and Genmax 5500/5000, look like twins. Sometimes the manufacturer will specify certain features added, premium parts or the opposite. Does anyone know if there is a difference in either unit. If no difference then it would be down to waiting for one to be on sale?
