I'm going to go with the RotoTrax. -I already have the rotopax 4 Gallon mount -They won't be used regularly -Even if they last a few uses and break, it's still cheaper then a tow truck. Update: Although I have only put them through light duty use they have gotten me out of the snow twice and have held up.

After putting on the RTT, my roof rack space went down to zero, so I'm constantly looking for ways to build my rig without sacrificing more space. So I have two of the 1st gen 2-gal tanks linked to each other. I was able to get the Rotopax extension mounts and put the 2 stacked boards over the 2 tanks, saving me a lot of room. It's more work getting to the water/fuel, but for my build, it was the right choice because I had nowhere else to put traction boards. Now, what I don't get is how this review is over 3 years old. The Rototrax were just released here in the US only a few months ago.

I had a tailgate that was bent because I had a slab of cement sliding in the bed. I took it off and drove over it. It was straight again. Good times.

Was really hoping the rototrax would give maxtrax a run for its money but im not impressed by how flimsy they seem. Its unfortunate because i liked the idea of using the same mounts as the fuel cans. Even if they were to cost $200 they have the added benifit of using the rotopax mounts. I hope they improve on the materials but until then im saving up for maxtrax.

I'm sure they would do well, for light use and the occasional need. Having the rotopax mounts does make it nice for those with that system. But, it's still night and day compared with the maxtrax. Thanks for watching!

the problem i see is even with better material, those giant cut out for the mounts will possibly end up being a weak point.

So I'm curious. Did the Rototrax bounce back to its original shape? I'm actually an early adopter of the rototrax as well haha. They definitely are flexible, and makes it poor for bridging. However they are roto-molded (I believe the maxtrax is too), and they should be pretty durable. Just they probably made it a lot thinner for cost savings purposes. I haven't gotten to test mine yet though. Now why it probably felt more squirmy in your test is probably due to the flexibility. I assume it is collapsing the spikes in closer to each other, creating less gap between each spike, and making the pattern too dense. I do however predict that in some situations the flexibility may help. Situations where a board is too stiff, and the rototrax will bend to the environment giving you more grab throughout driving through the board.I haven't tested it yet though so I couldn't confirm that theory. It also may bend to the environment more preventing them to shoot out from your tires, or potentially make it worse? Idk those are my predictions on what we are going to see with this board. These are my first set of traction boards though, I didn't really like that the china ones were injection molded (they will most likely get brittle over time, and the material often just isn't as durable) and they stacked poorly. I also liked the price point, I was not going to spend $300 on maxtrax, I am too much on a budget for that. As long as these rotopax gets me unstuck, and last awhile I will be happy.

Hi. Thanks for watching. The rototrax did bounce back, about an hour or so. I did end up selling them to a fellow IG friend after and he shared your sentiments about them as well. He has rotopax mounts so it also works for him in that regard as well. I definitely think these will get you unstuck and at 99 bucks, I don't think it's a bad board and it's super budget friendly. Time will tell how long they last depending on usage. I decided to keep the maxtrax. Please don't tell the wife. haha.

Ok, but come on. You STOPPED on the Rototrax but failed to do so on the Maxtrax. You were way more demanding of the Rototrax then the Maxtrax.

The cheaper trax are a waste of money. Seen all non maxtrax non tred tracks fail. If you were stuck on the trail holding two pieces of the cheapos, the extra $200 would feel like a real bargain.

At three times the price the Maxtrax better hold up better... question is whether the others serve the purpose for which they are designed and it looks like they do work--so they got bent a little...

Also, what does entry level recovery gear mean? If they fail the first time, that was your 'entry'. IMO cheapo trax are accessories for posers who don't go off road. Nice jeep dude, like the steel wheels,I'm in Aus, in a defender 👍

I won't begrudge someone who can't afford the more expensive item, but I do recommend it's better in the long run. I saved up for the maxtrax, because I want the best. That's what I'd do. Funny thing is I had no issue selling the rototrax when I was done with the review.

i have the rotopax gas containers and mounts on my FJ cruiser platform rack. Personally I love it, they're are good clean mounting solutions. Wish their boards are better for sure.

Bought each with my own money. lol. Maxtrax are way more stout. that's what you get for a $300 traction board.
