Maxwell asks Fran to join the family on vacation.
From Season 1 Episode 16, 'Schlepped Away'. The family plans a vacation on the Caribbean Islands, but, due to a heavy snowstorm, the airports and bridges are closed. The entire Sheffield household spends the weekend at Fran's parents when they are stranded.

The children were so funny! Grace was a very well written character, she wasn't a dull child but she wasn't that obnoxious type of child that behaves like an adult, too. She was neurotic but even that was written for a child actor to play a child, not a mini-adult.

99.9% of child characters are over-immature, obnoxious and/or sappy. I’ve yet to encounter a child character that acted like a mini-adult. It would be a nice change.

the dynamic is so different in the early seasons and it happens pretty gradually so when you watch in order you dont notice just how different it used to be

I was thinking the same. I don't know if this is what you meant but I always felt like in the first two seasons, Fran was more like the Nanny where she spent more time caring for the kids and acting like a mother figure while in the other seasons, she's more focused on dating, meeting celebrities or getting together with Maxwell.

Not really: part of why Fran's marriage to Maxwell didn't work completely is because the writers turned the children (now teens) into zombies, there was no more bond between the couple and the kids by the end of the series. This change was drastic.

@@redacted2275 the focus and seeking point later in the series was of Max and Fran would get together or not. They had amazing chemistry and even I was so caught up in their chemistry, I forgot about her main focus is being the nanny
