Iris you're always so honest. I want to give you a hug, I can feel you're bothered by the whole thing and you're allowed to feel like that. I'm quite a creative person, i like DIY etc and i probably could make challenges and envelopes if i wanted to and put my mind to it. The reason I don't is because i feel there is too much competition and it's a lot of work. I hope that everyone can see the work and effort you put into your binders, esty and general youtube. Hi Iris, i think what you said is bang on to be honest. Some people see that you make a lot from your unique binders and they are shady and want to jump on that bandwagon by using YOUR designs. I think you're quite right in what you're saying and if others want to make products then they should make sure they're not exactly the same as someone else. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into yours and others should do the same. It's like an artist painting a picture - You wouldn't want someone copying it but would be happy for someone to do in the style of. Congrats to all the winners too xx

I don’t think what you said was unreasonable in the slightest. You’re honest and upfront and don’t want to rip off other peoples designs. So many do that online and deny they’ve don’t it but you’re honest that you don’t want to be that sort of person! In my personal opinion, that makes you even more wonderful ❤

You are truly an amazing person, Iris ❤ Sometimes I think people forget that we are human, that we don’t have a factory that can mass produce well made products at the drop of a hat. Being a sewing crafter, I appreciate & understand all the hard work that goes into handmade products. If I was to make & sell something, I would want to make something that was unique, that maybe someone hadn’t thought of, or get ideas and come up with a neat twist. Your binders are unique, they are well made, well thought of, and I haven’t seen anything quite like them here in the US. Now, vellum envelopes, peek a boo envelopes, plain envelopes, big ones, small ones, just about any envelope you can think of can be found & bought by many sellers on Etsy that are of great quality lol. I’m glad you are not letting those negative comments get to you; you do what you feel works best for you, it’s not worth getting stressed out, or letting others steal your joy over something that you enjoyed making and just wanted to share your inspiration with others ❤ I do hope you have a great rest of the week; thank you for another wonderful video! I completely agree with you not wanting to take someone else's idea. If they want the design they can buy it from the original seller. I'd be pissed if someone stole my idea. Sadly a lot of sellers seem to disagree and just copy someone else. Coming up and refining an idea is something people completely forget when they're not creators themselves. My manager was surprised I talked about weeks on the creative aspect and overestimated the technical side that can be done in minutes because scripts already exist. As someone in the creative field I thank you for your integrity.

As humans, we are inspired by things all around us, and that is great. I would tell others instead of stealing ideas straight out, take that inspiration and make it your own. If you don’t want to make envelopes then don’t, I have looked for the binders you make and have ordered a couple that I found but they are no way as good as yours. This is why I keep coming back to order your binders. Anyway yes I watched the coronation and loved it I am a English Citizen and proud of it even though I live in the States.

I completely agree with you. There's a difference with making something you've seen for yourself and profiting off someone else's designs. With certain things it's definitely a fine line and I think envelopes is that line 😅 they are a very basic thing and so I think there's more potential for similar designs to happen naturally, but something like your binder is a specific thoughtout design. But as you said people can choose to do what they want, it just doesn't sit well with you and that's okay. Hope you have a great week! 😊🌷 P. S. I adore Haruki Murakami!!

I definitely agree with what you were saying about copying other people’s work. You need to have your gut feel right about what you do. I got up at 5:30am in the US to watch the coronation . I loved it. I am so fascinated by all the tradition in your country. We don’t have history that far back here. The architecture is beautiful. The ceremony was beautiful. Of course the fashion was beautiful. I woke up early to watch William and Harry’s weddings too and I remember watching in shock when Princess Diana passed. With the Queen’s passing you have had a busy few years there. Hopefully there are happy years ahead.❤️

Definitely not wrong on your thoughts here iris. I have a similar binder for Christmas next year (not by you), i also have one of yours. There is no competition in quality. Yours wins hands down. I did order the other one because I was never quick enough to get yours at first but you also have said that other people have similar items as you and advised us to go look. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to see other people copying your work. I agree that there is room for everyone, but why is there so much copying!! And I get it, you didn’t invent place holders or savings challenges but you did create the designs you sell!! I think it’s important for budgeters to keep speaking out and honestly calling each other out. I love that you call out and promote other Etsy store owners, shows how genuine you are!! I loved that you addressed your thoughts and feelings about how we essentially live in a copycat world although we can use other’s concepts for inspiration we should stay away from totally copying!! Now I do believe in this area of selling items especially in the budgeting community it’s so difficult not to recreate something that seems very similar... I’ve actually purchased vellum envelopes from an Amazing seller... MeghanEMcCabe I will say your binders are beautiful and conceptually original not that I’ve seen all binders throughout the world but you have a very distinct design!! So glad you spoke up on this topic..i always say yes similar things are normal but always give credit to the original or at least mention the original seller... Im all about giving credit. I felt the same when I gave sellers ideas and they went on to sell it as a successful product and i wasn't given any acknowledgement... not that I was looking for any... but give credit where its due...and i don't even sell stuff... but i do approach sellers when im unable to find what im looking for and ask them to make it.

Sometimes speaking our truth can feel uncomfortable but it doesn't mean it’s the wrong thing to do. In terms of creative small business- I’ve run a couple and I make budgeting products, so I've been exposed to a few copycats in my time. My impression is there are creatives and then those looking to make a quick buck off what they perceive is successful. I think you're the former- you had a problem, you innovated a solution and you sell it. It kind of makes me mad that the quick buck group don’t consider all the hours you put in coming up with the design- the skills, tricks, hacks, laminating sheets- Christ the sheer cost of product to R&D something to a sales worth point….anyho. I appreciate you addressing it. It’s very clear where you're coming from. To be clear I think it’s fine to respond to a great design with your take on it. For me, living in NZ my problem was scarcity, and getting anything in from overseas often costs more in postage than the cost of the product. I also wanted budgeting products that reflect my culture, my context and my personal desire to create ways for women who didn’t learn financial literacy at school to get some info and encouragement. Honestly the fact that people choose to buy my products is the cherry on top!
