It's almost May, and that means it's time for #asianreadathon ! I have participated in this great readathon in honour of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month since 2021. In this video I share my TBR for this year’s readathon with reference to the prompts, as well as some additional books because clearly I picked several more books than there are prompts. My TBR this month totals 2638 pages. Let me know in the comments what your favourite books by Asian authors are and/or what you’re reading for May! Have you read any of these books?
Check out Cindy’s announcement of this year’s themes here: • Asian Readathon Announ... Thank you to Cindy for putting together another fantastic set of prompts and supporting resources.

This is the first year I'll try participating!! I joined the reading challenge on Storygraph and watched the original video with the prompts and everything. I got my Kindle just last year & I've been reading so many more books this year because of it. I'm fascinated by how you're able to read & digest books so quickly! I've been reading the Pandava Quintet series, which was published through the imprint Rick Riordan Presents; Rick Riordan only helps find and publish the books, while the books themselves are written by authors of all backgrounds. Aru Shah, the protagonist, is an Indian preteen girl, and the books involve retellings of Hindu deities from the Mahabrata, similar (yet different) to how Rick Riordan retold Greek myths in his Percy Jackson series. I've just finished Aru Shah book #3 (I can probably mark it off for this reading challenge!) and am torn between starting the next one right away or trying another challenge prompt. Ahh, so many choices!

💜 Yaaaay! I'm on the Storygraph challenge too. I would like to look at these Rick Riordan Presents; I've heard of the imprint but haven't read anything from it that I know of. I've also never read Riordan himself though he pops up as a reviewer on quite a few books I love on Goodreads - I think he and I have similar reading tastes because he often gives five stars to books I think are great. I do find these challenge prompts overwhelming too - so many options! - but part of the fun is I end up with way more possible books than I end up reading during May, and then the result is I get to enjoy them all year. I already ended up reading one book that I had considered for Asian Readathon... back in April! 🤣 a novella by Aliette de Bodard set in the Xuya series, which is a bunch of space opera novellas and short stories that have Vietnamese inspired galactic societies with sentient spaceships.

@@aquamarine18 Halfway through the month, and I've only fulfilled one book of the challenge... which was me continuing to read the Aru Shah series 😅😂 That novella you mentioned with Vietnamese-inspired societies sounds SO COOL! I can't believe I'm reading "Vietnamese" and "galactic societies with sentient spaceships" in the same sentence! 🤣 I'm looking it up now!

Sounds like fun, I don't think I could read all those in a month 😂❤ Enjoy!

💜 It's ambitious but within my usual page count but I *totally* am not going to finish every book I planned for March, so anything could happen! I find "make the book list" its own kind of enjoyment distinct from the reading. If I don't get to everything, I'm fine with that; I can always keep a book in mind for later.

Every book on your TBR sounds amazing. The Immense World, Surviving Sky and Jumpnauts have all gone on my wishlist! I would love to be part of a first contact team in my next life. :) I had a couple of great reads and a couple that were disappointing this month. I went back to Ancillary Justice and Murderbot as favorites, as a way of dealing with the disappointment lol.

💜 Yes to going back to favourites. I am still not done Martha Wells' Raksura series and I suspect I'll be picking up the next book when I'm in a bit of a slump because I can be certain I will like it. My April has been a mixed bag, star rating books from 3 up to 5, but mostly good. I am excited for May.

@@aquamarine18 ohhh, I forgot about the Raksura series. Thanks for the reminder! :)
