“Not as clumsy or random as Windows. An elegant terminal, for a more civilized age [Ben Kenobi]". A "May the 4th" vintage hack dedicated to the memory of Peter Mayhew, our Chewbacca forever.

Great video! Thank you. I had an HP 2645 terminal that I bought used from a leasing company. At the time, the 2645 was light years ahead of anything else. The 2645 could keep up with a 9600 bps serial stream (fastest I could generate back then) without doing any flow control .... while it was archiving the stream to tape at the same time. The character sets and wide screen were beautiful. I had to use a VT-100 terminal at work and the VT-100 could not even keep up with sustained a 2400 bps serial stream without doing huge amounts of flow control. The 2645 was also a joy to use on UNIX because it had a much more complete termcap/terminfo with most of the advanced keys fully supported in vi. The insert/drop functions made editing even over a 1200 bps serial link reasonable while most other terminals had to do painfully slow screen repaints. Thanks for reviving some nice 1980s memories.

I appreciate the disembodied voice of Ken in the background. Also enjoy seeing that I'm not the only one with an unenthusiastic family when it comes to nerdy projects (I feel your pain). But, I think the opportunity to mentor a child in the nerdy arts may come with grandchildren. We shall see.

BTW. The sequences with flying starships were made not by moving the starships, but by moving the camera on a computer-controlled rig. The type of computer controlling the rig, they were HP computers from that same era as that terminal.
