Another great example of Jimi's creative rhythm playing. I used a tape echo effect to get the same feel of the original track. Fender Stratocaster Road Worn 60 ("Pure Vintage 65" pickups), JTM 45/100 modeling amp, Tape Echo.
I started using Jimi's thumb style years ago so learning from this video was a little easier. This guy knows his Jimi riffs. That's why I'm here. There are so many wrong videos. It's nice to finally see a right one. When it's played correctly you know it.
Shit you not I've watched this cover for about a week straight learning/listening to it. Your playing is absolutely incredible... I found a huge respect for May This Be Love after hearing your cover. Mad respect. You made Jimi proud.
Excellent work Greg. You have discovered the secret I noticed many years ago when hearing Hendrix made me want to learn to play as a kid. And the secret is his rhythm playing. Sure he was a great soloist and many learn some of his lead riffs and think they can play in the "Hendrix style". But to know the true depth of his genius you must delve into his rhythm playing and then you can see where he was coming from-which of course was from out of this world. Keep up the good work and keep posting!
So true, i agree.the same person as a kid sitting at the foot of his bed playing a BROOM that evolved into playing something like this on his 1st album.
I was a guitar player about 35 Years ago. I started a business and a family and did not have time to keep up. There have been some amazing guitar players during this time but none compare to jimi. Your outstanding work has inspired me to start playing again. I am down to three guitars and a banjo. I recently sold my business and now have a new mission. Thanks for the inspiration.
V nice work. Many think of JH as a great soloist (true) but the real value of his work over time will be recognized as his compositional innovations & this song may be his peak there. While basic in many ways, this tune drifts all over the place both in structure & stylistically but retains cohesion... GENIUS.

I first listened to this tune in 1971 at 12 yrs old and thought "this song is who I am" I've been playing ever since and I thank you, your version is quite accurate and saves me from putting on the headphones and using my finger to slow down the record lol, I did that for Johnny Winters "Be Careful with a Fool" and that took me 3 months lol many Thanks dude

You play that so effortlessly and relaxed.I NEVER really cared for that song, when I was younger i would glaze over it or skip it completely, but to see the technical side of it is truly a joy and pleasure.Bravo.
And that is honestly not and easy track, the rythm is not simple as it sounds. You can try to play the chords only for now and get the vibe going, when you feel confortable with the rythm, try to add some licks. Your hand ( the one scratching ) has to keep the flow going.. Dont break your wrist id you see what i mean, keep the rythm in your wrist very important. Honestly if you get the rythm good you'll get the vibe of the song. Tune in Eb if you want to sound like the original recording
And listen to the original song a lot, honestly i did learn a lot of jimi's tune by ear, looking for some covers as well to get the part i couldnt get with my ears. The most important thing in my opinion is to keep in my mind Jimi's rythmic capabilitie was awesome. As i told don't break your wrist, keep it scratching, get the flow and you'll be good

Great cover. Riff after riff. When I learn and play a Jimi song it’s a totally different feeling then playing anybody’s else’s songs. I think I can actually hear Jimi not just listen to him.

My dad was a cop in New York city in the 1960s and saw Jimi playing a few times in the street, YES in the street, this was of course before he was "discovered", said he always wore the same clothes. People don't believe it, but back then that's all Jimi did was play guitar that's why he was so good and innovative, he didn't have a job unless he got a gig, he slept wherever he could, a girlfriends place, even in the park. I believe it because I saw Stanley Jordan playing in the street a bunch of times in the early 1980s as well. He had a little battery powered amp and people thought it was a trick because it sounded like 2 guitars when he played. Just found your channel. I started learning Jimi's guitar off records back in the sixties (before tab, internet etc) and transcribing really helped my ear and playing. Having said that, I've been interested in watching your videos and seeing how much I got wrong! The other thing about your videos is that they really highlight what a great rhythm player Jimi was. This tends to get overlooked. So thanks.
