Proximity Wrap Maya 2024 1) Select the object that you want to deform, and then go to Deform > Proximity Wrap [] > choose the desired options > Create. 2) After creating the deformer, the attribute editor should automatically open to reveal the proximityWrap1 node. Select the pin icon that is located at the top right corner of the Attribute Editor. 3) Keeping the Attribute Editor open, select your driver object, then choose Manage Drivers, then "Add Selected as Driver". To adjust the driver's settings, choose the "Edit New Driver Defaults" option in the Manage Drivers menu. The settings for driven and driver object's are mostly the same as the ones described in this video. Happy rigging!
This tutorial is out of date. The Proximity Wrap interface has changed. Can't figure out how to make it work now. Thanks Autodesk you've done it again!!
apply proximity Wrap to target. Select driver, then target (with shift), now you can find settings proximity Wrap in attribute editor, click on Manage Drivers -> + add selected as driver
@@olegbalandin3563 the 'add selected as driver' button being in the attribute editor that vanishes when you select anything is crazy. Been using Maya 10+ years now and I find myself confused by something that should be so basic. Selecting the driver, then the deformed mesh to access the proximity wrap menu is the only way to do this and it's completely unintuitive. I guess 'pinning' the attribute editor is the move, still kinda wonky.
This seems like an amazing tool ....hard to find info on it though so thanks for the tutorial. If I want the "mesh driver" to move with a bound animated character do I select the "wrap mode" to be "snap" under driver attributes ? I played around with input order but the only way I can find to move the driver with the character as it moves is with "snap" I also tried constraining and parenting but must have been doing something wrong as its seems a little different than other deformers...but I am unsure if using "snap" rather than "surface" under the "driver attributes" "warp mode" the right way to go about this ?. I would love a tutorial on how this deformer works with component tags in 2022 with facial animation on a animated character moving in space. I had problems with the facial cage as it didn't move or follow deformation when I animated other deformers like blend shapes.... perhaps I need to bind the "Cage" and copy weights first ?
autodesk should expose the base mesh in the outliner, same as how the wrap deformer works. currently running into a lot of issues with double transforms
1-Can we have multiple cage as driver in same time effect on one model in this new warp ?! if yes ! its can be amazing . 2-this proximity Wrap can be interact with pose editor ?! 3-any setup for sliding effect by Cage with proximity Wrap ?! Note: in video seems we can used paint weights for that , which is great .
So it's the wrap deformer...with more settings. Would be nice to see how much of a performance hit this has on rig evaluation. The only practical use of this I could see would be to quickly pose high density meshes quickly.
Man I dont get the tab in attribute editor called "Edit Node" Instead under Proximity deformer attribute that gets created I have a "Manage Drivers" button. It has "Add drivers" and "delete drivers" options that are both greyed out.
Thanks for the tutorial. However, there's an issue I am running into while scaling my rig. When I scale the base mesh, 2-sided proximity wrapped meshes tend to lose their thickness. Do you know how I'd get around this issue?
@@rossdanielart my current workaround is to create the proximity wrap in Maya 2022 and then after it’s all set with drivers and driven meshes I open it in Maya 2023. It’s a stupid workaround but it’s worked so far.
@@Matthitizidu I understand but I dont have maya 2022. But the tool makes no sense in maya 2023 and I cant find any resources to explain it. Autodesk is really something
When you say that it's empty, do you mean the options are greyed out or it's literally empty? If it's literally empty (as in nothing in it), something is wrong with your cut of Maya. It should never be empty. If it's greyed out, don't forget that you have to shift select the objects you want as driver's *before* selecting the wrapping object.
@@Autodesk_Maya I mean it's completely empty. I found that I can just create a prox wrap, then pin it in the AE, then go select the driver/driven and add them but if I select any geo, particularly more than one it does not work. Also how do I get the prox wrap back after I unpin the AE, I have to select by name. Really clunky workflow.
This tutorial is false. This is not how it actually works. Becouse at stage where we pick geometry to add as either driver or driven, the GUI panel of proximity wrap Edit node remains inactive and does not accept input. This tutorial is lying!!
