As somebody who watched the original B&W more than 25 times in the movie theater, I recommend, you can go ahead and watch the remastered color version. The remastering of this is done by a who really admired the original. Except the aspect ratio and some length trim, the movie viewing experience is not spoiled in anyway... Original is always the best; but the remastered color version is not bad at all... Just try to read the story / context of the movie before you start watching it, it will help you in a great deal for you to follow the story.

I was actually unaware of how they filmed this song in 1957 until I saw a video that explained things : 1) The plates of food moving was a stop-motion 2) The guy getting bigger was achieved by moving him closer to the camera and then redesigning the set to make everything smaller so that the audience will be convinced he's now bigger 3) The laddoos flying into his mouth was a reverse shot, and S.V.Ranga Rao sir had to act backwards. The person was guessing all of these, but they seemed pretty reasonable to me, which was why I thought I would drop it here...

Answer to your "question" about the woman in the opening sequence. Ghatotkacha , the guy in the main song who eats all that stuff, is a magical being who can assume any shape. So, he kidnaps the heroine from her parental home to unite her with her lover (his younger brother) and impersonates her. Her parents have set up her marriage and the wedding feast is prepared. Ghatotkacha, impersonating the heroine, is walking around in the palace and comes across the kitchen. He is tempted by the delicious food and devours everything that is meant to feed 100s of guests.

In the story Ghatotkacha transforms himself into a woman (his cousin's fiancee) to help her out of a marriage she does not like. He is half human half ratchasha (similar to a Greek Titan) and in his original form is a giant. Unfortunately original b/w version of the film seems to have disappeared. Your pronunciation of the names is very admirable. This movie and this particular song have been enjoyed in my family for five generations till now. BTW, there was no cinemascope at the time of original release. However, the cinematographer, Marcus Bartley was very celebrated for his lighting (full moon in another song) and other special effects.

He is NOT "Yama" . He is one of the sons of Bhima ( 2nd of the 5 paandavaas) of Mahabharatha. His name is "Ghatodgaja" , He is a "Raakshasa" .....Bhima had this son with a Tribal / Raakshasa woman viz. "Hidimbi". Both Bhima &Ghatodgaja also carry "gada" the same weapon that you would see "Yama" also carries. This movie is a Great one to watch !

Nothing like marriage feast in India. Now a days it is reduced. earlier period marriage feast means like this even in ordinary families that too marriages used to be 5 to 7 days rituals which they were conducting in their own houses. whole village used to get involved in the marriages of any houses their village and if groom is from other village then whole village of birdes used to treat the groom's village people like super guests. And in this song it's a royal wedding.. so one can imagine how many items would be prepared for wedding and in what quantity..which is unimaginable now a days...because in those days no hotels or lodges to make arrangements for the stay of wedding guests. so whole village used to accommodate guests in their houses like their own house's wedding celebration. and cooking for the people of 2 villages imagine? Look at the quantity of food and number of items they have prepared...he is taking the names of all the sweet dishes...wow...wish history repeats at the earliest possible...😄😃😀ha..ha.haha..haha..

You are finally closer to make my wish fulfilled, and you are sounding to watch the colorized version finally and as I told you several times before, my life time wish from you both to watch this masterpiece and review it. I did check with the production house of this movie and they said, they don't have the original good quality print and that's why they colorized the movie and they did not add any additional special effects, all these special effects you see in the movie are from the original, if at all only minor additions and sound rendering might changed. I still believe the experience won't be much difference in terms of quality. Hope, you will watch it very very soon and review it
