This event was the second-best emotional experience for me as a sports fan. I'm an old guy, 74. I grew up watching the San Francisco Giants, and before they moved to San Francisco (where I'm from) they were the NY Giants - my original favorite team. I watched them be the bridesmaid several times, and then they won the World Series in 2010. That ranks first for me. This event was so extraordinary and I have to admit I climbed up on the NCAAW basketball wagon at the end of the '22 season, because of Caitlin Clark. I can name 20 NCAAW players and name 3 NCAAM players, and I have always loved NCCAAM basketball. What I have once again learned is the importance of affiliation among females, different than my gender. How CC reacted like a kid would not be seen if this was a male basketball event. Quita, you have expanded my appreciation/love for NCAAW's basketball with your terrific analysis of the teams/games/individual players. Keep it up, you're the best!
I was in attendance and Lynette Woodard was having the best time! We loved on her and appreciated her presence…yelling and screaming for her and she was loving it! It was awesome, it really was! I was so happy for her because you could tell she was so genuinely giddy with joy. Iowa loves women’s basketball, I wish the rest of the country could see how passionate we are and how much we love and appreciate the game.💛🏀💛
Iowa inviting Lynette Woodard was total class. Caitlin meeting Maya Moore was one of the cooler moments in sports, especially after you've heard Caitlin explain about meeting her as a kid. Great to see Caitlin scream like a little kid again! I love how sports can make us all little kids again.
It’s hard not to like Cailyn. She’s a student of the history of the woman’s game. She pays respect to all the founders of modern woman’s basketball. She never seems to let the hype get her or go to her head. She seems like a good kid on top of being a talented one.
I am from Iowa and it is great to see the world finally recognize Iowa ladies basketball - and all due to Caitlin Clark. How Caitlin could perform with all the this surrounding the game etc. is amazing and the story of her hugging Maya Moore at ten is such a wonderful story. Even more important Lisa Bruder has been talking up Leynette Woodard for some times --- it was so great to see Lynette Woodard to be finally recognized and bless her. You can bet that Lynette Woodard has not felt that much love in a long time. Bless her. I will do more research to find out about Lynette Woodard -- I will send her some money if she needs it. Bless these great people and all of Iowa. JJobe
Lynette Woodard had the D1 women’s record and did it without the 3pt line in college cause it didn’t come til 1987 to men or women’s college basketball. She also played when it was no shot clock and also played with the same size basketball the men played with. The didn’t go to the smaller balls for women til 1984 and she graduated in 1981 from The University of Kansas. She’s a nice person and she help recruit my older sister to Kansas in the mid 80s. Oh and yeah she was also the 1st woman to be on the Harlem Globetrotters!!!
Great day! Two legends of the women's game were in attendance. Lynette Woodard the former all-time women's scoring record holder and Maya Moore (Caitlin's childhood idol). Class act.
Caitlyn gives all credit to the wonderful woman that came before her.. also all credit goes to her team.. she never stops saying that! Watch her after game press conference.. the whole thing! That’s Caitlyn!!!
What a moment. Caitlin got her chance to meet Maya Moore. That was not scripted, she was genuinely excited about that. How can someone hate on this gal? She plays the game the way it's suppose to be played and she's giving credit and props where it belongs. She cannot help it if she's so talented
Yeah you don't know what affect it has to you see it. Reese said the same thing about taking a picture when she was a young girl with Simone Augusta...and to think she would wind up at her college in her home town delivery a championship. These meet ups are good for the game because these are the women who laid the foundation for these players today.
Awesome 1st class presentation here CC gives & elevates Moore very positively in their moment, priceless iconic moment here between two great leaders, great clip Quita👏🔥💪🛐
Got a chance to see Ms. Woodard the last year of her career I would have loved to have seen her in her prime. I'm sure she was something special. It was also great to see Maya Moore there she is my favorite UConn player ever. And it makes me like Caitlin even more knowing that she is a Maya Moore fan as well. Maya was that girl baby!!
Haven't SEEN Maya Moore since the days of UConn( can't get into WNBA) but she STILL looks the same, and PROBABLY still got game, Caitlin couldn't have chosen a BETTER idol to follow. Lynette set the stage for BOTH, she's was in a class ALONE, having a LOT of FIRST for a female/ woman in basketball, i REMEMBER her well.
Now Iowa I have to give you props on that because in the scheme of things Blacks want to simply be respected and recognized for what they contribute thats it.😊
Iowa, at least once, was respectful of our black neighbors. We were the state that first picked Obama for President, and voted for him twice. Iowa is different now, but there are still good people here! Venus Williams is my all-time favorite athlete, and I’m a whiteeeeee boy from Iowa lol
I thought Lynette was being recognized because of her record? Was it because she was Black? Curious if there was so much emphasis on Woodard and Moore when Kelsey Plum and Mitchell were breaking records?
A lot of people here acting like Lynette Woodard was disrespected, as well as Kelsey Plum, for not getting hype over breaking scoring records when they did. Also, some people admitting never hearing about Lynette Woodard and wondering why. Well people, think about it. You really don't dwell on it until someone is about to break it, and then you start wondering when it was last broken and now that's pretty easy info to find, but it wasn't not so long ago. I think this whole program at Iowa, including ESPN, State Farm, and others, was about as good as it gets in sports. We watch these girls because we want to think of them as our daughters, sisters, neighbors, and we want them to be normal happy people that love what they're doing and have actual feelings and love for each other. It's what we all want our sports to be. It's about heroes and idols and greatness and the love of the game. It's genuine. This was just a great story, well told. I hope it doesn't end. Thanks, Quita.
I love how much attention this is all getting. Still got some haters, but you can't legitimately not like caitlin if you've watched more than a couple videos where she speaks. Humble while being the best athlete in her sport we'll probably ever see
Listen.... A record is a record. If we have to put conditions on a record ( the only exception might be the 3 year era vs 4 year era), then what's the point of records. Records are now, and should always be, about greatness. Never, and I mean never, should records be about anything else. They should not be about the school or team you chose. They should not be about those who surround you in the game. If we put conditions on them, then we effectively end all conversation about records period. Yes there are circumstances that might cloud overall greatness, but always remember, when looking at greatness, what were those intangibles. Did this person elevate the game. It's a rare breed that can both garner a record while simultaneously elevating the game. We are currently looking at someone in Caitlin Clark who is not only making records fall, but is bringing a giddy excitement to women's basketball that hasn't been seen in a long time if ever. Stadiums are selling out. TV viewership is at historic highs. No matter the outcome of chasing a national title, her presence on this national stage has been a huge win for both women's basketball and women's sports in general. Those who try to diminish those accomplishments are not understanding how important this is in an overall way to pushing women's sports where the players want it to be. Embrace the events. If everyone gets behind it, there is no ceiling as to where it takes you.
when you meet your heros, and the show exactly why they are your heros. Caitlin instantly transported to being 10 years old again. just a beautiful interaction, props to Caitlin for all she's done, an props to Maya for coming to the game.
@QuitaLovesSports I hope you are making a ton of money on your channel. You really deserve it. I love your breakdowns and I think you do a really nice job of putting great videos out there. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment! There’s actually no real money in this right now because all I do is use RU-vid ads, I don’t have show sponsors or Patreon, that’s where RU-vidrs make real money. I’m probably making around $3 an hour on RU-vid which is fine for now, tho I’m trying to figure out how to make enough money to actually make this a permanent thing for myself. Women’s basketball deserves the coverage and I love what I do, so money or not I’ll be here
Lynette Woodards comment about her record still standing and not broken because of the three point shot is true. Things changed in basketball , and that puts a twist on new records . In saying that , I would like the WNBA and the NBA to change how rebounding is recorded . Currently you have two stats for rebounding OR ,for offencive rebounds and DR defencive rebounds . I propose adding a third stat , OMR , OWN MISSED REBOUND . If you shoot and miss and get your own rebound ,count that as a OMR , if you make a basket you don't get an assist on that play . EXAMPLE : If you fininh the game with a total of 18 rebounds and the breakdown is like 5 OR's and 4 DR's and 9 OMR's , this is a more truer stat ,when you are talking about setting records . FEEDBACK in always welcome .
Yes she's a legend. Many of us knew of Lynette Woodard. She is one of the oldest women to sign her WNBA contract. She was 38. I still do not understand why Catlin told Ice Cube no. AIWA is over a set of men's basketball records.
I think the reason Pearl doesn’t come up in these type of conversations was because she was a Division ll athlete which is much different from Dl level. Dl playing a Dll is a completely different game even back in the day.
Bigtime Women's athletics was in desperate need of a booster shot and it got it from Maya Moore and Caitlin Clark. I think a lot of people really soured on the horribly ugly narcissism displayed by Megan Rapinoe and the Women's Soccer Team and hopefully, we can now put all of that ugliness to rest.
Why wasn't this a big deal when Plum beat the record. Why didn't they bring up woodeard & Mooore then? Sounds like a lot of hate & a splash of racism towards CC. If CC played in jr. College & then transferred to a d2 school , she'd have 5000 points. Can we just agree this is great for wbb. All three women are great.
Sadly the racism started back then - and at least some redemption and positivity can come from this deserved recognition of these past players … Pleaae get over the racism and CC comments - it’s just lacks context and is not the point … I’m a life long Hawkeye and grad myself. Loved the recognition of the past!!
So it took Caitlin Clark and the Iowa coaching staff, predominately white to give flowers to black women who set the mark. Can we as black folks stop the B.S. and especially black women and see what is going on here??? Even Mya Moore showed up and I would put Mya's resume against any basketball player all time and she only played 7 years in the WNBA. Check her resume. Put some respect on CC's name and Iowa's womens basketball!!!!! I'm done!!!
I don’t think it’s a racial thing. As I understand it, the NCAA and AIAW were vicious rivals as businesses and that’s probably why the NCAA refuses to recognize AIAW stats.
@@stuartu7150actually, the AIAW sued the NCAA just before it became defunct. Over what, I don't recall, but I think it was something to do with the end of year tournament and NCAA stealing all the good teams. So, yes......bad blood.
Two or three analysts observed that Clark is not Black enough, not Southern Baptist enough, not lesbian enough, and took too many years to achieve her points; I do not hold these against her.
I think we all need to take in account that social media wasn’t around when Woodard played and I think that people need to remember that Caitlin is still a kid. That’s a lot of pressure to put on a kid - black or white…. Putting race at the center of everything these days is sad to see and people are putting so much on Caitlin regarding this. I think we need to let these girl play ball and see where this takes us. No one said a thing when Kelsey Plum won the record so why now go crazy about it? When Michael Jordan entered the picture not one person I know cared about what he looked like or said what about the white guys that came before him. It’s MICHAEL JORDAN - no one cared who came before him and some could argue who came after him!!!! You’d be hard pressed to find a household in America who does not know who Michael Jordan is. I’m Eddie and if I’m being honest I can’t name 1 white basketball player but I can name a few black players because how great they are. There were great players before Michael but every now and then you get these rare phenomenons like Jordan, Curry, Brady, Mahomes, Serena Williams, Clark, etc, where it’s hard to take your eyes off them and because of that you have people on the other end of the spectrum who try and tear them down solely for the fact they are great. It reminds me of Lebron always claiming he is the goat but you NEVER hear that out of Jordan cause the real GOAT never needs to say it out loud cause everyone else already knows lol
I have talked about Pearl Moore before and gave her her flowers in a previous stream. Pearl Moore was phenomenal but the difference is that she played at a D2 school, Woodard and Caitlin both played at D1 schools
Because it was in jr College & d2. If CC played in this division, she'd have 5000 points. Why wasn't Moore & woodeard brought up when plum beat the record?
@@QuitaLovesSports Well then it should be said that Caitlin Clark has scored the most points in D1 , but overall the woman who played college basketball to scored the most points is Pearl Moore she is a Hof
@@QuitaLovesSports Pearl Moore played for Former Coach Sylvia Hatchell. Hatchell.is acknowledged for winning an AIAW Championship. Moore should be recognized as well. If the Coaches are recognized for their awards. The players should be recognized also.
It was the league before NCAA ever started. NCAA just kept records for the NCAA. Which is not bad it is just their records. Coach Bluder/Caitlin Clark's coach at Iowa played in same league as Woodard before NCAA started. Think it is wonderful of Coach Bluder and Caitlin to call attention to Woodard when Caitlin broke that record, too. Caitlin broke both the NCAA and AIAW records. Think it was meant to be because of Caitlin maybe, the previous Athlete records will be added into the NCAA records. Pearl Moore did not play for a Division I school... Pearl Moore played for a small college that would be like Division II and Division III. The schools that Caitlin Clark, Plum, and Woodard played for are the largest Division I schools and should go down in history records together. Besides Caitlin Clark being the All Time Points Record Breaker she also broke records for Assists. The Caitlin Clark Effect has been good for all women athletes!
@@ColleenYourAccess2meFormer Coach Sylvia Hatchell is recognized for winning the AIAW Championship Award. Pearl Moore played for Hatchell and should be acknowledged as well.
Well there was so many that wouldn't shut up about Woodard once Caitlin broke the NCAA record , they had to push Woodard , whom I have never heard mentioned before this year .
That means you don’t know history!!! Woodard was on 2 USA Olympic Basketball teams(1980 & 1984) and actually would have scored more points if the 3pt line was around back then. And also played with the same basketball the men played with cause the smaller ball wasn’t introduced to the women until 3 years after she graduated. And she also played with no shot clock in college which actually makes it harder to score as many points as she did. You must be real young if you don’t know who she is cause she also was the 1st woman to be a member of the Legendary Harlem Globetrotters!!!
Who cares about Clark. Basketball has been around before Catlin and will remain well after. So what going on here. This a blip on the screen of life. Not a big deal to me
@michaeldunlap7169 you cared enough to post a stupid comment. And millions care because it shows by attendance, ratings & ticket sale price. Take your hate back role the NBA.
@@QuitaLovesSports the black fan bases of perennial power programs with predominantly black athletes along with players ( ex and current) as well as coaches. I would say fanbase from SEC schools specifically along with ex players such as Cheryl Swoopes, current players such as Angel Reese, and current coaches such as Dawn Staley as well as the Lesbian contingent that has issue with her not being one of them…
Nobody has a problem with Clark .. it’s the way the media graces her while not doing the same for others. There’s been plenty of women basketball players who’ve broken records, won defensive and offensive player of the year and won titles while doing it. Why didn’t they get the title GOAT? But of course Clark gets that status for scoring points only and no title. Historically it’s shown how the media has a “type” to push forward while vilifying others and that’s the problem ppl have with this whole Clark hype. Nothing directly with her but seems the goal post has been moved specifically for her.
Ummm Sheryl Swoopes…spell it right was not in the SEC. Dawn Staley wasn’t either since she was in the ACC & she hasn’t said anything negative about Caitlin so stop making that up!!!
@@anthonyjones4029 South Carolina is in the SEC bud….And yes she did … she has insinuated that Clark gets favored by the refs because she is white. She single handedly started all the backlash and cry’s of racism towards the entire Iowa program last year after they lost in the final 4. She as a black coach with a majority black ,and up until then ,undefeated team could not fathom losing to a team full of white girls from the Midwest. She couldn’t give them their flowers. She instead made excuses and of course without failure had to bring up race and skin color and a conspiracy theory about bias. Which then encouraged the LSU players to start their 💩 and imply that they represent black America and they were going to take down those evil ,white devil girls at Iowa. Completely classless behavior from people whom claim to be “educated.” More like indoctrinated , and I will say whatever I damn well please….
I'm just wondering why you guys keep on saying we're going to give her her flowers like flowers like flowers that grow from the garden I mean or do you guys have this new language that we're supposed to agree with that you know honestly flowers to me means flowers as beautiful garden but you guys want to create this new language just the way you know these other women want to create different ways of looking at life transgenders want to look at language of certain way women on women want to create language of certain way men on men want to create a certain way so to me I'm giving flowers means giving flowers as garden flowers
